Yes I went, a great night, Brian was on top form playing wise, especially during the guitar solo on "Hard Life" since he has not played it in a long while. Brian's memory on the other hand, aint what it used to be. He said that they had never played "It's a Hard life" live!!! & then went on to say that they have not played "Seven Seas of Rhye" live since 1973!!!! (1973??????) If anyone wants to trade, I got the whole concert on audio. |

It was great and good to see that Brian and Roger made an effort do something else than the usual standard (or have been talked into...) :) |

Maybe we can conclude he meant Brian and Roger without Freddie... but I don't think so |

Sky News showed a few clips of the acts this morning, including some parts of WWRY, along with brief interviews snippets with Brian and Roger in their dressing rooms. The Audio of WWRy was not multichannel, but a raw soundboard or 'direct to camera' live audio feed. The gig is on Sky3D in the UK in December. I'm hoping that it will also be on 'normal' Sky HD, and that it doesn't have any of Queen's performances cut. The charity did officially release the 80's Prince's trust concerts on DVD, and I have the one with Brian on (1988 I think?), so hopefully last night's gig may also see the light of day on DVD/Blu Ray too at some point. |

Tom Chaplin seems a bit full of himself, ive heard him sing and whilst he is an ok singer he is nowhere near as powerful as Freddie was so i dont know why he seems to think his voice is in the same register as Freddies!!! |

Tom Chaplin has a great voice. He shines on Keane's first album but on the follow ups he is more worried about channeling Bono or Brandon Flowers (from The Killers) when he sings. He does have a high register and can certainly sing any Queen song with that voice. He doesn't sound like Freddie - duh - he manages to hit the same notes but his voice is different. Keane puts on a great show and Tom really makes an effort to be a frontman - in a chubby-awkward kinda way (he has lost weight, tough). I waw them live in 2008 and they rocked big time! Their live rendition of Under Pressure set the house on fire, with people jumping up and down with the finale (the "Give love, give love" bit). They have also gone on record saying their wildest shows have been in Monterrey, Mexico. They certainly have a following here. About a Q+TCh tour, I think the Q+ bit should be put to rest or they risk becoming a joke. Another wild idea: Queen + Keane tour with Tom Chaplin singing some songs with the guys and have Brian and Roger take care of the rest... While we're dreaming, let's add Rufus to the mix so Roger can sing TATDOOL and Ga Ga without that horrible backing track! |

I was ready to turn it off before it even started (simply because I have a lousy attention span) but hearing the line "with a broken heeeaaaaaaarrt" at the end of the intro was rather spooky. Doesn't sound like Freddie, but it was just masterfully executed. Great performance. |

I have dreamed of Tom Chaplin singing with Queen; ah, finally! (Interesting song choice, but it did work). |
Donna13 19.11.2010 16:37 |
What a great tribute to Freddie that Tom gave by trying to sing like him and move around stage like him. His voice is very similar to Freddie's and on some parts of the song I think it would be hard to tell whether or not it was Freddie singing it. And I got goose bumps during the guitar solo. Thanks for posting this!!! |

I tried for tickets on ebay but got outbid twice then gave up! I loved both songs with Tom Chaplin - clearly he has a different voice to Freddy's but I thought he was outstanding, I loved seeing him with Queen! I've seen him a number of times live with Keane and the performance he gave at the Rock Gala was very much him at his exuberant best - he looked to be enjoying every second and so did the audience... just brilliant |
