It s a shame that we got a compilation as Live Magic.
I mean quite all songs cutted, half of the original set-list!
Has someone an opinion why it was choose to do it in this way instead to pubblish a full compilation of the Magic Tour?
I think Magic Tour deserves it !
Very, very simple: double albums sold very, very poorly in the latter 1980s. Live albums of big-name bands, however, still sold well. So, butcher a concert by a very famous band to make it fit on a single record, and you have a guaranteed sales-hit. So yeah, money.
And... of course QP already knew they want to put the double CD live at Wembley 1986 on the market. So I think the Live magic CD was a kind of try out to see how well another live album (after Live Killers) of Queen sold. Yep... the things you have to do for money, ha ha ha (FM Live killers Quote)

Live Magic was released in 1986. Live At Wembley was released in 1992. So no.

Thomas,
Why not?
I think QP already knew in 1986 that they wanted to release a full live show of the magic tour. Therefore they released LIVE MAGIC as a try out at first to see how it would sell in the eightees. If it was a succes they could do the trick again a few years later in the ninetees. And of course the live CD (Wembley) suited well with the video in 1992
WHEN IT WAS RELEASED THE BUDAPEST VIDEO?
1987?..
AGAIN ..IS EDITED...RIO IS EDITED..RAINBOW 74 IS EDITED..RARE LIVE (RARE CRAP) IS CRAP!
WHY SO LITTLE ATTENTION TO THE PUBBLICATION OF LIVE PERFORMANCE, KNOWING THAT THEY WERE REALLY GOOD LIVE?
I MEAN IF I WAS THEM, I HAD ALL THE INTEREST TO PUBBLIC A FULL LIVE PERFORMANCE O' MINE!
DON T U THINK?

I agree with you that when they released Wembley in 1992, they did so in part because their previous Magic Tour-album had sold reasonably well. However, I don't think they were already planning a Wembley-release in 1986. So much was still happening at that time, with Barcelona, The Miracle and Innuendo still falling between the two releases.

No try-out from six years of course. Would be to soon to release the same thing in a different format two years later don't you think? People aren't that stupid . Maybe it's better to ask the management of QP. I'm sure they gonna tell their marketingstrategy.
Ya Live Magic is a bizarre and in my opinion, shitty compilation. They could have at least included performances from gigs earlier in the tour like Stockholm, Leiden, and Brussels where Freddie was very stronger rather than gigs he sounded weakest at.
Even Mannheim sounded better than Wembley.
What annoys me about Live Magic is that most of the tracks were recorded at Knebworth. And edited to fuck.I mean FFS.How do you butcher Bohemian Rhapsody.Well you take out the opera bit like they did on that album.Thats why i hate that album.
Hey Greg,
we discuss Mannheim a couple of posts ago..
Have u see the Marillion video "assasin" took it before queen come on stage?
It was shooted with at least 3 cameras + elicopter...maybe......maybeee.......
Anyway..what I love about Mannheim is the sound of JDeacon s bass !
Powerful and amazing!
Mannheim is fucking great guys!!!
