Do you remember the RT tour with Taylor Hawkins that was scheduled for March/April 2010 and then rescheduled for autumn? I met Roger on Thursday and asked about it. He shook his head and said there are no such plans at the moment. So I asked "okay but will it EVER happen?" and apparently it won't. He assured me Taylor Hawkins is a great friend of his but it seems the plans for a cooperation have been abandoned. But there will be a new RT solo album one day (I didn't ask about this but a friend of mine did).
Very disappointing news. This looked like the best Queen-related news in a looong time. Maybe the finances didn't work out? Touring is an expensive business these days, with promoters, concert venues, record companies, insurance etc all taking a cut.
Crap. :(
I hope "some day" for a new RT album will not end up in "some year" (since i also lost hope of ever seeing the unreleased queen material being released) . There was this project of a RT solo 'best of'. I'd rather see a new album since I really liked 'the unblinking eye' (and who would rather pay for the same songs again anyway?) That great organic piece! To me, it is much nicer than any number of the overproduced Cosmos, in some way it reminds me of the old days stuff. Anyone heard "smile" - the new RT song that was played at some convention recently?
Its a shame really but i think weve seen the last days of solo work from Rog as we know it. Maybe he may drop tracks here and there, maybe a collaberation but i dont think we'll see an album as such. Seriously, no one would buy it so It ends up just being a vanity project and hes probably to old to bother with that nonsense. I think Rog, every so often will be wheeled out to do a star turn doing Queen greatest hits - which isnt a bad thing at all. Hes had a fantastic career which will be remembered well after we are all gone
That's a bummer about the tour. I caught Taylor's show back in May and he really is a tremendous performer. I was rather impressed and I wouldn't exactly have called myself a fan before the show. The two of them (three of them with Brian?) would have been an amazing show to see!
The album response is the same non-specific/non-commital one he's been giving for the last year which is getting a bit old. Perhaps if fans continue to ask about it, that will light a bit of a fire under him.
Ooooohkaaaay...you just happened to meet Roger Taylor! the other day...and this is just a normal occurence?
LOL...I need to move to England.
Your post makes it sound like you just bumped into your uncle the other day!
I would be stuttering with silly praise and kicking myself trying to remember all of the questions i have ever wanted to ask him from the last 30 yrs!
