I just heard the new version of Goin Back by Phil Colins. Very nice version but even so I really prefer the "Queen" (Freddie, Brian and Roger) version.
What is your favorite?
It's hard to choose, as all the versions are so good in their own right.
Of course most people here will choose the Larry Lurex version.. it's a Queen forum.
Phil Collins' version is far more than muzak. He is pure class, and his tasteful rendition of this classic is a reflection of his respect for what came before him.

Couldn't have said it better myself. I love Phil and this version of of his is very nice indeed, making it quite difficult to choose. However, and without bias, I'm slanting towards Larry Lurex.....but only just.
Scollins, I think you need to watch the footage of Genesis in London 1980 again before you say he's cheesy. Ever heard his stuff with "Brand X" ? He's been all over the map - prog, fusion, rock, Disney, and now Motown... he's done it all. Besides Elton and MJ, who else has reached such a wide audience in the last 30 years?
Phil is awesome - but his sound after 1993 (after Both Sides...) is a bit too middle-of-the-road for me. Some great tracks here and there (Two Worlds on the Tarzan soundtrack, Can't Stop Loving You on Testify) - but it's just soooo clean. I just wish he would do a new album with Tony and Mike instead of recording covers. Same can be said of his former co-worker Peter Gabriel - though his coveralbum is amazing.
Scollins, you're away with the birds.....Bob Geldoff is the worst frontman in history, followed very closely by Brian Ferry. Phil Collins is in a different league to those muppets.
