I am taking the time to write this because youtube has lost of it's best channels: DaveRFuller. As you probably know, Dave uploaded very rare recordings from his queen collection and provided us with a vast amount of rare interviews, mixes, demos, videos, and more.. For some reason youtube and their copyright nazi's had to kick him off for some stupid reason and now those hundreds (maybe even thousands) of rare jewels from Queen that he uploaded are gone. The man was the "God" of youtube among Queen fans and youtube obviously didn't know what they just did. FUCK YOUTUBE COPYRIGHT NAZIS RIP DaveRFuller's Youtube Account 2005-2010 *Thanks to gregsynth for noticing this |
GratefulFan 22.10.2010 13:11 |
That's more than a little depressing. The exact message is "DaveRFuller has been terminated because we repeatedly received third-party claims of copyright infringement regarding material the user posted." I blame YouTube less than I blame the third parties. Was this really necessary? Who was the material hurting? |
rhyeking 22.10.2010 13:37 |
Youtube constantly takes its "Covering Our Cowardly Asses" position to new and stupid lengths. I believe the fine print in its mandate reads: "We're too busy getting rich via advertisements to want spare any brain cells wondering whether something should be allowed to get posted, therefore, if any third party so much as sneezes in the direction of a complaint, let alone makes one (ridiculous or otherwise) we're taking the video and everything relating to it off line, because really, fuck the audience,we need more money! Where is my new Porsche?" I say we start a guerilla campaign, setting up dummy accounts by the dozens and re-post as much of these rare tracks as possible. Personally, I have a lot of tracks, interviews and other stuff, some of which may not be as rare as what the good Mr. Fuller posted, but it's a start! |
Marknow 22.10.2010 13:48 |
This is awful news, really. David's page was by far the best Queen resource on Youtube. I have had two recent copyright notices on my own Youtube account, both Queen related. I shared Kerry and Brian from proms in the park, in two separate video's, the second clip with WWRY/WATC was flagged for copyright, the fist clip is still fine. I also had a clip of The Tube Channel 4 at The Bowl '82, this was also flagged for copyright. It's quite obvious that Universal are more proactive than EMI in regard to copyright etc. All of this started soon after the switch to Universal. What a shame, the official Queen channel is no adequate replacement, that's for sure. An awful lot of stuff just got locked away forever. |
PrimeJiveUSA 22.10.2010 14:11 |
Yeah, really sad. I regularly pulled up "Cool Cat w/ david Bowie bum bum bum" and " Silver Salmon". Well maby we'll hear this stuff if Universal is planning to release them (albeit cleaned up verions).. |
matt z 22.10.2010 14:18 |
How sad... Dave was a Hero. I can't say that i ever COMPLETELY scoured the collection...and that's something i'll regret. It was always a safe haven for rare queen goods... This is really sad. :( How's Dave Handling it? |
jamster1111 22.10.2010 14:49 |
On facebook David said that he was working on somehow getting it back but didn't promise anything. If that was my channel and I couldn't get it back I would be absolutely infuriated. I would rush over to youtube's headquarters and let's just say shit would go down. |
The Real Wizard 22.10.2010 15:20 |
There is very little unreleased Queen on youtube that isn't already available here or elsewhere online. But he had a ton of stuff organized in one convenient place, so indeed it's a shame that he was shut down. That said, it wouldn't be too difficult to organize the material in a similar way here, as long as everyone put their heads together. Maybe he could even contribute. Does he post here? |
beautifulsoup 22.10.2010 15:49 |
Arrrrrgh. :( And arrrrrgh again. This tells me that there will likely be many more YouTube accounts deletions in the near future. |
jamster1111 22.10.2010 17:28 |
I don't think we have on here anywhere near the amount of stuff that Dave had on his channel. It's gonna be hard to find some of those rare interviews and demos again. Let's just hope that somehow youtube puts his channel back. |
YannickJoker 22.10.2010 17:48 |
It's a shame, but I wouldn't call him a hero. Downloading things from Queenzone and uploading them on youtube, taking complete credit for it does not make you a hero. |

First of all, I want to thank David Fuller for all of his efforts. About a month ago, I came across his youtube posts. There were three or four demos I had not heard before. And then there were all the Roger b sides and unreleased stuff as well. The music and related videos were a genuine treat, as well as affectionately well done. A labor of love. Belated thanks. Wish I had hooked up my computer to my stereo sooner to rip some of what I did not previously own. Now........I do understand the removing of all of it. Official material was there. Before everyone goes ape sh*t........think a second about why it happened. Many tracks are unavailable or hard to come by, but is still copyrighted material (sigh). In the meantime, until these are replaced......to quote Herman Munster......." Darn! Darn! Darn!"............... |
Gregsynth 22.10.2010 23:08 |
It's extremely arrogant of anybody to file COPYRIGHTS on stuff that has no monetary loss/gain. Fair use applies. |
*goodco* 23.10.2010 00:53 |
I would be curious to hear the replies that Brian, Roger, John, and Jim Beach might have to offer regarding that comment. Not to be too serious, or too silly.......hell, it would be nice to hear John say something about anything. |
Gregsynth 23.10.2010 01:03 |
Hey, I just got a message from Dave: He says that an "Air Productions" filed copyright claims on ONE VIDEO, and it got suspended. This Company is FAKE. IT DOESN'T EXIST! link This came up on a search Someone filed a FALSE CLAIM and fucked him over. |
qrock 23.10.2010 04:55 |
This is terrible news. He was probably the greatest resource of Queen material youtube, albeit there lots of other Youtube account who have contributed well with Queen stuff. |
koronja 23.10.2010 05:51 |
Lucky we have Dave on myspace and facebook too,so we can be in touch with him, hopefully he is going to be back on youtube too,hopefully...because there was years of hard work on that channel. |
qrock 23.10.2010 07:25 |
This is interesting. I've just come across the Website with a Queen fan talking about Dave R Fuller (however the site is full of other stuff??). He says that you can still view Dave R Fullers youtube account via a Catched version? He also has a forum and is looking for Queen stuff in the future. link |
Thistle 23.10.2010 08:05 |
Guys, let's get this in context and not get over dramatic about it. Dave did NOT and I repeat did NOT have anything we don't already have or can't already get as far as demos or rare recordings are concerned. If you check Jam Monkey's links, he has provided us with a way of obtaining the largest majority of the demos and out-takes available. I had a couple of things he didn't and vice-versa, we've all managed to obtain stuff through JSS and his awesome shares of the BBC stuff and between everyone else here on QZ, we've pretty much got everything in circulation at the moment. Sure, Dave had everything in one place, but as Bob says it wouldn't be too difficult for us to do the same here. And I'm sure between us we can retrieve the biggest lot of interviews as well. It's an pain in the hoop for sure, but it's not the loss some are making it out to be. It will be a major loss for Dave, I know, and there is no disrespect intended towards him as he did devote a lot of time and effort into his channel and provided a great service. I think we can, collectively, better it though and cushion the blow caused by shutting Dave down. |

He did devote a lot of his time and dared to upload all that. Kudos for David! Cheers, Ogre- |
Jam Monkey 23.10.2010 14:01 |
That's a real shame, Dave's account was the best on YouTube. However, as has been said, we can always find this material in other ways. If anyone is after any demos or unreleased tracks then please check out my link below. Every publicly shared demo I am aware of it there (If I am missing any then please let me know and I'll add it!) Of couse Dave also had alot of offiical non-album material as well, which isn't so easily replaced. |
Bigfish 23.10.2010 15:29 |
I think you'll find that Queen productions have something to do with this because of the new universal deal..Made in heaven 2 anybody ? |

> YannickJoker wrote: It's a shame, but I wouldn't call him a hero. Downloading things from Queenzone and uploading them on youtube, taking complete credit for it does not make you a hero. He did not take complete credit for it, so that statement's absurd to say the least. Dave did, however: * Spend countless hours adding the visual aspect (including some amazing photos). * Spend countless hours uploading those files to YT. * Spend countless hours getting the data right for the video info. * Allow thousands of people all over the world (many of which haven't got the time, resources or experience to get hold of those files elsewhere) to enjoy those interviews, songs, etc. * Do it for free, only out of the generosity of his heart. So yes, IMO, that DOES make him a hero. Way more than being an official archivist and just going to the QZ board to whine and bully. |

It's a real pity that we can't see his videos. Anyway thank you for your past contributions, DaveRFuller. |

Having run the Youtube copyright gauntlet many times myself (I have yet to face the deletion of an account, but realistically it's only a matter of time) I can only say this to people who rely on Youtube for their goodies : IF YOU LIKE SOMETHING, DOWNLOAD IT. Go to a site like Keepvid, or whatever one you prefer, that will allow you to download videos from Youtube. Hell - if you're on a Mac, get SnapzPro and just record the videos you like. Youtube was a cool place for a few months, let's be fair, but once it got big, and once Google bought it, and once they struck deals with copyright owners, any guarantee of common sense went out the window. They are in a unique position to influence the way these corporations handle copyright, but I suppose they worry more about being in the unique position to get their arses sued off. The bottom line is that they don't give a shit about you. It stopped being 'You'Tube a long time ago. Case in point; I just had the audio switched off on a video of mine because I used a bunch of copyrighted music. Fair enough. But now my video has ads on it to buy the music from iTunes. My video, crippled as it is, now serves as someone else's billboard. Keeping in mind that none of the music used in my video cannot be obtained elsewhere on Youtube already. And that listening to this music on my video is not a viable alternative to buying it because it is hacked up and has people talking over the frigging top of it. The 'music industry' (if it has ever really been about music) is not panicking about lost profits. They are upset that they get less money than they would like to. 'Lost revenue' is a lot of bullshit. They are still raking it in, although anyone who ever looks at the books knows that the money is not really going where it should. We take the Youtube thing for granted, folks, but shit like this happens with appalling regularity. In Australia a channel that uploaded a lot of ABC stuff was deleted by someone who was pretending to be the ABC. He may have even used a shitty free e-mail address - Hotmail or some such. Getting your stuff back, or even getting through to Youtube, is pretty bloody difficult. In future, if you guys (this goes out to Gregsynth who is still on Youtube, am I right?) want to avoid this kind of problem: Download the stuff you want to keep, because it might not be there tomorrow. And possibly go to some lengths to not put everything in the one basket. Maybe start a few channels instead of just the one. Band together, and make yourselves a real nuisance to the people in charge. Fuck 'em. |

Sebastian wrote: He did not take complete credit for it, so that statement's absurd to say the least. Well, I don't think he ever told the loving comment-leaving public where he got his goodies from, did he? But if he did, please tell me and if so, alright, good on him, but it's still misty. Sebastian wrote: Dave did, however: * Spend countless hours adding the visual aspect (including some amazing photos). However, still does not make him a hero to me. After all, what he did was collecting things from others and just putting them together nicely. I've never seen a video where he thanked the persons that uploaded the original demo, interview or whatever. |
ole-the-first 24.10.2010 05:24 |
I'm just shocked! Dave have very good Queen stuff collection. The copyright issues on YouTube always been ridiculous: for example, Warner Music required deletion of one of Queen's BBC Session (and even "Crysis" gameplay) recording because it allegedly violates THEIR copyright. This is absurd, because dudes from Warner Music themselves violates copyright of real owners: EMI/Universal (and Crytek/Electronic Arts). I think that idiots that deleted DaveRFuller account are simple assholes and faggots! |

It's illegal. The fair use act was set up so people filming in the street who pick up audio or music from a passing stereo or logos from billboards and stuff won't be sued. Posting 100's of videos on youtube is in no way fair use, its piracy / bootlegging. That said, it was nice having everything in one place, it had all been shared here at one time or another, and a few bits were from the Freddie mercury box set ETC. But david r fuller has no legal comeback what so ever. Your Channel with audience bootlegs MAY be allowed by queen productions / universal records, mainly because it will cost more to sue you than they will get from you, but if they wanted to, they could send a cease and desist because they own the music. |

Your motives are irrelevant. These people think in legal terms. Fair Use has given people a bit of grey area to play around with, as it is something that allows for a certain amount of flexibility, but that ultimately comes down to how convincing a legal argument you are able to make. I hate to say it but neither you, me, Dave R Fuller or anyone on this forum would appear to be fluent enough in legalese to go up against these scoundrels. Accept the fact that your hobby basically amounts to screwing around with someone else's intellectual property. As fans, we think it's great. We enjoy hearing this rare stuff for free. But on paper, it's not yours to be doing this with, and you are able to do it *purely* on the goodwill of those who own the property. |
Gregsynth 24.10.2010 12:24 |
No, I'm definitely not an expert when it comes to law. But I have dealt with copyright nazis messing around with my video directing channel (the one where I make the Freddie wrestling matches). I have gotten my audio muted on a number of videos--but I've successfully disputed each one (claiming fair use). In fact, my biggest problem with Dave's channel was that a FAKE company screwed his channel up! |

emrabt 24.10.2010 13:58 |
I have gotten my audio muted on a number of videos--but I've successfully disputed each one (claiming fair use). ------------------------------------------------------------------ Youtube probably didn’t give it much time or investigation, their system probably matched up the music to stuff in their database and flagged it, your “fair use” excuse unflagged it. It’s a simple threat from the big companies. If a company got involved rather than a computer it probably wouldn’t hold up, and wouldn’t hold up if it ever went to court. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There's no profit involved. Plus Dave (and myself) upload these strictly for archiving purposes. We just want to SHARE (not steal or pirate) our audio collections. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Doesn’t matter, some companies don’t mind as long as it’s not for profit, but it’s their choice not a legal requirement. For example, paramount allow star trek fan stuff, the BBC allow doctor who fan stuff (even putting it as extras on DVD releases), the ‘members’ of spinal tap don’t mind and neil innes from the RUTLES and Monty python doesn’t mind his stuff uploaded. As long as it’s given free, most have worked out it’s good free publicity, but they have no legal requirement to allow free distribution of anything they own. As zebonka said in the unlikely event it happened, none of us know enough to fight it. I wonder what video was the problem, Air productions is a wedding video service? |

It’s a simple threat from the big companies. If a company got involved rather than a computer it probably wouldn’t hold up, and wouldn’t hold up if it ever went to court." Exactly. From personal experience, appealing on grounds of Fair Use will just about get your video immediately put back up, with audio and everything. But if the owners personally review the video (instead of ignoring it like they usually do), then it will go down again just as immediately. Another thing about Youtube is that a video that is 'blocked' on copyright grounds isn't much of a problem. It's just a video that people can't watch. If you keep appealing against these decisions, you can get yourself a Copyright Strike. 3 of those and your channel is history. And they don't expire after 6 months like the Community Strikes do. (again, this is from personal experience). |
emrabt 25.10.2010 07:24 |
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "fair use" is used for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I think this part of the act is what people are using to upload full covers and things to youtube, right? In other words, short clips and stills can be used for teaching (i.e. broadcast to those in a classroom without permission from the owner), reviewing and news reporting to demonstrate the product or media in question. For example a short clip from queen live at Wembley, giving proper owner and copyright information, can be used in a youtube video where someone is reviewing queen live at Wembley. It’s allowed because it gives a short visual demonstration of what is being talk about. A small screen grab from the DVD may also be used in a written review about the DVD to demonstrate video quality. This doesn’t cover uploading full videos for others to enjoy. it should / will only stand up when a short clip is used to give a representation of the media being discussed. It's seems like a very confused grey area, i guess how legal the clip you use is depends on how powerful the company. |

Freddie, plz help us locate DaveRFuller. His YT account has been pulled, again. This young man has done more for Queen's legacy than Queen can know. For five years he has consistently, politely, and fervently worked to produce the most amazing collection of everything Queen. The youngsters who have learned their appreciation for Queen have gone to Dave's "school." So many questions he has fielded, the Yankees should sign him. When I consider the time and effort this fine young man has invested in YT and Queen, it makes my Soul cry for what someone has done to him. Where is he? We need DaveRFuller back on YT so I am asking Freddie to help us find him. Such love for Freddie the young man has.....this is a damn shame. |

Wiley 25.10.2010 15:10 |
I remember there were some negative comments about Dave sharing that material over on YouTube. Doing a quick Queenzone search I only found a small Zebonka comment from 2009 at the end of this page link. It reads: "It's no big achievement to have a popular channel off the back of other people's hard work, Dave old boy ...." But this is not that what I was refering to. I believe there were some negative comments around the time he shared some uncommon material because some of that material was only available to Queen fans over at the Queen Hub and in order to be part of it, you had to share at least 2GB (or was it 10GB?) of Queen related material (quid-pro-quo). DaveRFuller took material off the Hub and shared it on YouTube where everybody could watch without having to contribute. I don't believe there was an outrage or anything, I just remember some users seeing Dave's actions in a negative light and that's why I was surprised to see he is now Robin Hood - Prince of the Peer to peer Leechers. :) |
YannickJoker 25.10.2010 15:56 |
Indeed. I knew I wasn't the only one with that opinion. It strikes me as bizarre to praise someone for uploading other people's material and then also not giving the original uploaders their credit. I don't think he ever answered the question 'Where did you get this from, Dave?' on any of his videos, and many people asked him that. |
inu-liger 25.10.2010 17:16 |
Wiley wrote: I don't believe there was an outrage or anything, I just remember some users seeing Dave's actions in a negative light and that's why I was surprised to see he is now Robin Hood - Prince of the Peer to peer Leechers. :) What do you expect, old chum? "DaveRFuller took material off the Hub and shared it on YouTube where everybody could watch without having to contribute." I'm of the 'upload everything' school of thought, but on the other side of the coin I simply do not remember ever seeing him say 'this is where I got this recording from' on any of his videos. All I remember was his name at the start. (shrug) It's moot now, of course. I'm just glad I was able to find Brian May singing Hot Patootie on another channel - I thought I'd lost that recording forever. |
john bodega 25.10.2010 18:23 |
"Doing a quick Queenzone search I only found a small Zebonka comment from 2009 at the end of this page link. It reads: "It's no big achievement to have a popular channel off the back of other people's hard work, Dave old boy ...."" I'm sure the double meaning of the comment was lost on Dave. I was referring to myself as well at the time (because my most viewed videos all use someone else's work as a component - granted the editing is usually worlds better than his, though). It was bitchy of me to say it, admittedly, but he had done a bit of boasting in a private e-mail and the truth of it is that any one of us could knock out the work he did in between fart breaks. I admire his patience - uploading is a lengthy job. That's about it though. I find no joy in his channel getting terminated though, because I completely disagree with the way that Youtube handles these situations. |
john bodega 25.10.2010 18:26 |
"I think this part of the act is what people are using to upload full covers and things to youtube, right?" Yep, looks like the one that I usually see. There is another Fair Use clause somewhere (I'll have to dig it up) that makes allowance for non-profit uses. That's basically the one I usually try to sneak in under. I've been on Youtube for 4 years and my observation is that they basically don't give a shit what you do, until there's a few more 000's on the end of your view count. When they get the feeling that you are trading off their name, or when they feel like you are getting enough attention that there could be lost revenue; or if someone simply hates you enough to impersonate a copyright owner and get you yanked from the site - then it'll happen, and there's not a lot of recourse unless there is a buttload of people willing to stick up for you and complain. (See that wise bearded guy that anti-Scientology people love so much). |

Hey Zebonka. I'm still on Youtube! |

Indeed! I was listening to some gig on your channel earlier. It's interesting to note that purely from a copyright perspective, Greg's channel is just as infringing as Fuller's. People forget that the "but I recorded it on my tape player" defense is actually meaningless. Still, we're fortunate as viewers when the guys up top look the other way and let things like live gigs slip under the radar. |

I admit that my channel is a target for copyright claims--but it's a risk I'm willing to take. I'm just letting everybody have a listen to Queen concerts. |

Thanks to everyone who supported my channel and for all the kind replies. I may be getting it back, I've filed claims, but it could take up to 3 weeks for it to process. The copyright that gave me my 3rd "strike" was a claim by 'Air Productions' which does run some obscure French show 'Taratata' which Brian was on in 1993 and I posted his performance and interview. I haven't recieved any complaints from Queen Productions or EMI, I think they realize it is free advertisement. I didn't recieve any complaints from Universal, hopefully if the channel does come back, they will realize its good publicity too. To set a few things straight, how can I give credit to hundereds of posts from around the web, some things of which I purchased myself. Do you know where you recieved each and everything in your collection from? Thought not. Miley Cyrus had nothing to do with this. She is adorable I saw a pic of her sister in a Hot Space tee so they are ok in my book. :) I've never used the Queen Hub, I don't know how that works and don't care for it, and much less than half of the stuff in my collection came from Queenzone. Try and notice that most of my YouTube posts consisted of scarce 'official' material. Again, thanks to all my supporters. I was surprised how many people were interested in the more obscure side of Queen and Queen related material. |

Haha, I'm glad my positivity sprung some laughter :D It's almost like a terrible war from the past which the people involved try very hard to bury in a deep hole and deny it ever happened. No I'm not saying the lads are war criminals. They just act suspicious. |

Hi Dave Thanks to the many fascinating views and listens your channel had to offer. Hope it resurfaces soon in some form. Just to shed some light on the claimant : Air Production is by no means obscure, it is a very notorious French TV Producer, part of a much larger TV production group named Banijay, and Taratata is France's equivalent to Later With Jools, maybe. The show happens to have an ad-funded website streaming every perf from the long show's history, Bri included, so that may be why they saw your channel as unfair competition, as opposed to the unreleased material on your channel which did not compete with anything QPL or EMI had to sell. Regards |
