Gary / Greg, re:
I've taken this from another thread but think it would be good to have some open discussion with you guys regarding what happens where new projects are concerned.
This is ONLY intended to be constructive and illustrative of the processes that result in product. I'd hope that ALL contributions to this thread are in the same vein (pot calling the kettle black, I'm sure many will say, but hey, let's change tack?)
>>This series (Singles Collection Vols. 1-4) was not made to bend in favour of the customer,
Now there's a thing.
In all honesty Gary / Greg, when has *anything* ever been issued, post-Freddie, that has bent in favour of the "customer"? And, specifically, the customers that have multiple versions of the original catalogue across various formats?
In your discussions with QPL, are you ever questioned about what the word on the street is from the collecting community?
If so, how do you present this to them?
How do they *generally* react? Interest, suspicion, surprise.....?
Do QPL seek you guys out or do you approach them? Is QPL's reaction different depending upon who makes the approach?
If THIS series was not made to bend to the customer, what plans are there / have been put to QPL to ensure that a series *IS* bent towards the customer?
I await with interest to see if you get a reply.
I for one would like to see a constructive conversation between between GB/GT and the QZ community, but you'll forgive me if I am a little pessamistic.
Personally I've come to believe that we will just have to accept what is released; if we like it we can buy it, if we don't we won't. I am certainly not going to waste my time waiting for the perfect release, I am going to make the best of what is there.
Queen have release alot, and with all the unofficial material there is enough to keep me going for a long time.
WELL SAID. With the Universal Records tie in they are gonna want a speedy return for their investment in the form of more compilations. Unless of course they have something planned for the 40th anniversary which has only 3 months left to run. Who knows
1971 was the year that the "classic" lineup was finalized with John Deacon's hiring. 1970 is the year considered the year of the band's formation. But didn't Queen celebrate 20 years behind the scenes at the Brit Awards '90?? I remember seeing a picture of them with a customized Monopoly gameboard that had 20th anniversary written on it...

The celebration could have been rushed a little due to Fred's failing health.
Whilst there have been no responses in any shape or form to this thread from our esteemed colleagues, I think we can safely assume that their "input" in terms of ideas and suggestions is absolutely non-existant.
Let's not be under any illusion other than that GT & GB are instructed to do something specifically by QPL and they simply do it.
Were they anything else other than simple gophers - hence the endless begging for contributions for free material from the fan base - they would have the freedom to be able to contribute simple answers to simple questions as asked above.
Perhaps it's a personal thing? If so, would someone that they "trust" be prepared to copy, paste and pose these questions to them in another thread?

It's not a personal thing directed at anybody, and if we can we always answer questions posed on this site.
GB always suggests things to the band as to what WE want released, but at the end of the day it is their band and their product.
We would love a GVH3 right? And have wanted one since 2004......but they obviously don't feel the same about this particular project.
We can't do any more other than work on the projects that are being looked into or are decided and ready to go.
GT - thanks for this; please refer to the start of the post where there are a number of questions that I think we ALL would like some clarification on in terms of the nature of the way the machine works; answers would go a long way to avoiding much reading between the lines........

I think the answer to your question is QPL release what they think will sell the most copies, and damn the collecting community if it does sell.
I find it hard to blame them for that, it makes perfect business sense to appeal to the mass market rather than the die hards. I don't agree with it of course, but I can see their point of view.
