My coworker who is also my music friend at work recently took up the hobby of making guitars. So yesterday, he shows up at work with this one as a present for my son, along with a little practice amp. Note the paintjob in honour of me. LOL Out of laziness I stole this photo from his Facebook profile, so it does have strings now. It also has the same black fist in the air Freddie on the headstock. I thought it was very cool, and so thoughtful.

Oh......FINE! I got unlazy and took a picture of it as it is now with the strings and the knobs all on etc. Well, technically I got my kid (who was thrilled to death with it!) to take it, so maybe I'm still slightly lazy. You can see Freddie on the headstock in this one. I think that part looks really cool.
Sorry no cutout cat this time magicalfm...that shot was at my coworker's house. I briefly considered going upstairs to get our pet rabbit as an amusingly placed substitute, but decided that might be a bit exploitative given my inability to fully consult the rabbit on this use of her. Reading SaveMe every other day will warp you that way. Ha ha. Actually, I mostly just feared the thought of her peeing on the guitar. And I also feared that it might be a stupid idea anyway.

It sounds fine...though it's hard to tell what the potential is because it's a really, really small older portable practice amp that my work friend scavanged from eBay. There is one string that buzzes ever so slightly like it's hitting something. I took a quick look, but didn't see anything. I'm not sure, but I think the entire guitar might be one he got from eBay as an old physically broken and electronically non functioning beater with the intention of repairing it and replacing the electronics and stripping it down for new paint etc. as there was one like that he talked about. I didn't want to ask too many questions on Friday, as I just wanted to be happy and grateful as I really appreciated his kindness.
He did bring in one of his true custom ones to work before though, and it sounded good as well, though of course he had to keep the volume real low. I think he's still buying the necks at this point due to the precision required, but he's fully creating the bodies and headstocks and installing the electronics.
I'm attaching a couple of pictures of other ones he's working on a little closer to their hunk of wood stages in case anybody is interested. Funny to think of the Red Special at this stage in the distant past.
