1985.01.19 Rio de Janeiro - 25th Anniversary Edition
| The Real Wizard 02.09.2010 21:16 |
Queen Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Barra da Tijuca January 19, 1985 "25th Anniversary Edition" This is a merge of six sources to nearly complete the show in the best possible quality. Many thanks to Harry for a clean copy of the audience recording, which is used primarily for disc 2. Over half of the show comes from a soundboard or video source, making this version of Queen's epic last South American show a very pleasant listen (although there is the occasional disturbance of Spike Edney's keyboards and vocal being up high in the mix of the Globo TV source). Brian's solo spot, Radio Ga Ga, and God Save The Queen are still slightly cut, presumably for tape flips on the audience tape. * AUD > ? > WAV > FLAC (Frontend level 8) ** Globo TV broadcast > VHS (x) > WAV > FLAC (Frontend level 8) *** "Rock In Rio Blues" (B-side of A Winter's Tale) > WAV > FLAC (Frontend level 8) # "Live In Rio" official VHS release > DVD-R (1) > WAV (ImTOO DVD ripper) > FLAC (Frontend level 8) ## "Love Of My Life" (US cassette single) > WAV > FLAC (Frontend level 8) ### MTV Japan promo > VHS (x) > WAV > FLAC (Frontend level 8) Disc 1: 1) Machines (tape) * 2) Tear It Up */** 3) Tie Your Mother Down **/* 4) Under Pressure **/* 5) Somebody To Love ** 6) improv ** 7) Killer Queen ** 8) Seven Seas Of Rhye ** 9) Keep Yourself Alive **/* 10) Liar ** 11) Rock In Rio Blues *** 12) It's A Hard Life ** 13) Dragon Attack ** 14) Now I'm Here #/* 15) Is This The World We Created? * 16) Love Of My Life ## Disc 2: 1) guitar solo [cut] * 2) Brighton Rock (ending) * 3) Another One Bites The Dust * 4) Mustapha (intro) * 5) Hammer To Fall * 6) Crazy Little Thing Called Love */** 7) Bohemian Rhapsody * 8) Radio Ga Ga [cut] * 9) I Want To Break Free #/* 10) Jailhouse Rock * 11) We Will Rock You */### 12) We Are The Champions */### 13) God Save The Queen [cut] * 14) Rock In Rio theme song * link link updated info - link Enjoy! With all the attention to the small details, I missed a major one! Thanks for that. I've updated the first post here with a new info file, if anyone cares to download it. pittrek wrote: BTW can somebody share a good sounding version of the first night ?I'm working on it - about 95% done. I have a couple more Globo TV sources to track down. Hang on in there ! |

Please dont think this is a complaint, its just a simple question as Im now very confused.I thought I had worked out what could and could not be shared due to copyrights but now Im totally baffled as this multi source is using officially released material isnt it? |

Dodger Taylor wrote: "Please dont think this is a complaint, its just a simple question as Im now very confused.I thought I had worked out what could and could not be shared due to copyrights but now Im totally baffled as this multi source is using officially released material isnt it?" It's a fair question, and I'm glad you asked. There are actually two separate issues. 1) Technically 99.9% of what is shared on this forum is copyrighted in some way, as the rights to the songs themselves are owned by someone else. 2) Here we have 4 songs from official releases ranging from 15 to 25 years old, all of which are out of print and can only be found used at places like eBay. So yes, sharing music online (i.e. any songs that are licensed and published, regardless of their origin) breaks copyright laws in many countries... but jaywalking is against the law too, and everyone does it. In the end, if the person who runs this website has a problem with it, he gets the last word. But there is nothing here that will contribute to lost revenue for the band. |
| Dodger Taylor 05.09.2010 16:22 |
Thats fair enough,I was just curious as Iv often seen massive debates on here about whats official n whats not.Guess it could be called bending the rules slightly lol |
| Ale Solan 05.09.2010 21:16 |
thanks so much Bob!! just downloaded and listening right now... excellent job! by the way, for Martin, at QueenConcerts it says January 18th instead of 19th :) |
| The Real Wizard 05.09.2010 23:06 |
They were slated to play on the 11th and 18th, but both nights they didn't go on until about 2 am... so technically they're the 12th and 19th respectively.. :-) |

For everyone who is interested, I've made my own cover creation for the great version that Bob made. Front: link Back: link Note that I used the 18th date for the covers, not 19th. |

Hi there!, thanks Sir GH, you're the great, as always, great job!, but the way how is it going the same project about the first night?, it would be interesting to have that one too!. Thanxs in advance! |
| The Real Wizard 08.09.2010 12:41 |
I still need a couple more TV sources for 4 more songs. It may take a little while to get the footage transferred to digital (it's still on VHS), but it'll eventually happen. Hopefully this year! |
| pittrek 11.09.2010 08:03 |
I'm listening to this right now. Amazing job, thank you VERY much |
| Double-U 16.09.2010 07:25 |
Oh yes, it's blowing into my ears right now. The piano play before Killer Queen starts, contains fragments from "The March Of The Black Queen" does'n it? Thank you very much SirGH for this great gift. regards W. |

Oh superb! Thank you Bob! |
| Hangman_96 26.01.2012 17:54 |
Bob, I have a question. What is the "MTV Japan promo" source? It comes from a video shown on the Japanese MTV, doesn't it? |
| The Real Wizard 26.01.2012 19:26 |
Yup, exactly. |
| Hangman_96 27.01.2012 10:53 |
Man, I'd never known of existance of video of these two songs from the second night until I took a look at your share (which I downloaded a while back)! But I've seen WATC which was discovered recently. How can I find this MTV Japan promo video? Btw, take a look at your mail. I've sent you something :-) |

As requested: |
| OwenSmith 16.12.2012 05:28 |
Great timing, I was about to ask for a torrent also. |
| OwenSmith 16.12.2012 08:17 |
I have the official "Queen Rock You From Rio - Live" CD and that claims it was recorded on 12 Jan 1985 at the Rock in Rio Festival. Did Queen really play twice (12th and 19th) at the festival? Or is the date wrong on one (or both) or these releases? It's good to have this torrent anyway even if it is the same concert, since the CD is single disc and therefore only about half the concert (16 tracks inc. God Save The Queen). |
| OwenSmith 16.12.2012 08:34 |
Having searched around it seems Queen did play twice. Sites differ on the dates, some claiming 11 and 18 Jan and others claiming 12 and 19 Jan (official CD and this download). Maybe they played after midnight hence the confusion over dates? (pure speculation on my part). |
| Alejandro Siepe 16.12.2012 13:29 |
Hi there dear Owen!, yes you're right!, indeed Queen play twice at Rock In Rio, on 12th and 19th January 1985. If you watch this event at youtube you'll find two differente versions of Love Of My Life (the one and only cames directly from the 2nd show) and the first one you have different camera angles on a Brazilian TV Report from 1991 when Freddie passed away. The first show is known historically from Freddie forgetting the words to It's A Hard Life (what you hear on the remastered The Works 2001 CD bonus tracks it's a mix of both nights and you can notice this mistake). For more information I recommend you to navigate the wonderful Sir GH website, here the links to both shows: link link I hope this could clarify the things for you. Regards, Ale. |
| OwenSmith 16.12.2012 13:48 |
Yes Sir GH's site clarifies things, it says they played around 2AM hence the confusion about the dates (11th/12th and 18th/19th Jan). It does repeat some of the potential mis-information about the crowd reaction to Freddie's fake boobs, my understanding was that the british press completely made up the story about poor reaction from the crowd and that there was no actual problem on the night. It then goes on to dispute the information it has just given, signs of an edit I think. I suspect this many years later we will never know the full truth. |
| The Real Wizard 16.12.2012 17:41 |
Indeed Owen, there could be some fabrication there. The press really had it out for Queen after they played in South Africa a few months prior. There are supposedly reputable sources that claim Bruce Dickinson saw Freddie in tears back stage and that he had to dodge things being thrown at him from the audience, but there is nothing of the latter on the video. The boob gag just went on as usual, and the audience was very appreciative of the band revealing the Brazilian flag at the end of the show. So, armed with physical evidence and historical perspective - I'm calling porkies. Time to edit the website entry. |
