Just seen this taken from an ad for Springsteen's new box set
'DVD3: Houston '78 Bootleg: House Cut A holy grail of sorts, this is the complete show from December 8, 1978, at the Summit in Houston, TX toward the end of the tour for Darkness on the Edge of Town. They're calling this a "bootleg house cut," as it's the footage that appeared on-screen at the concert.'
So maybe this is why so many shows exist from the Summit. They were actaully live shots to the big screen, just like Earls Court.
I would imagine that there is a very high chance that the 1980 show is also lying around in a box somewhere. Plenty of other bands have 1980 footage on Youtube.
I really hope the summit show in 1980 is properly filmed, if not then a 1980 Los Angeles show. I want my hands on the Paris show 1980. Whatever it is! as long as its 1980!!!!! Preferably Oakland ;)
This also explains the fact that both Houston and EC don't include any audience shots. Then, I rather see Hyde Park getting a proper release.
Speaking of releases, that Bruce Springsteen boxset is awesome. I'm not a great fan of his music, but QP should follow this example.
But then again, that will never happen...
Yeah, after doing a bit more research it seems none of the shows you see from the Summit were actually filmed for the performing band's archive, or with the intention for release (with maybe the odd exception). They were filmed purely for the purpose of projecting onto the two giant screens, which seemed to be a permanent fixture at the venue. This seemed to happen with every band who played there.
As far as I'm aware the Springsteen footage is new, never seen before?
Give's hope that the Queen 1980 show is around somewhere.
I saw the news about houston concert and automatically thought that is said about the Queen 's concert in Houston 1977, it would be nice if Queen is releasing this concert, I have watched this show on bootleg today
It would not suprise me at all if the Summit '80 show is in the QP archive, for whatever reason they are never really forthcoming about what exists there and we often learn of these things when snippets are released (e.g. the complete Japan '79 video, Wembley 1st night). Even when we are promised a list, we get a rubbish list of widely known info (which doesn't even discern between audio and video). The official releases cater to the masses (and us hardcore fans make up probably far less that 1% of the overall buying market, I can accept that fact) yet QP are still very secretive towards us .... ok rant over
I am sure even the masses are sick to the teeth with endless re-releases. I check out queenzone a few times a year to see if there is any upcoming news about a possible 70s concert being released on DVD and it's always the same - same old same old. QP are worse than George Lucas when it comes to milking the masses with the same existing footage over and over again - I don't particularly care for shows like Wembley, Milton Keynes or Rock in Rio. I probably would if they had not appeared so many times via re-issues or TV edits but now they bore me. It's good that fans have took it upon themselves to share some of Queen's best performances via online sharing - the owners of the footage could care less. I am happy as it is that there is video/film footage out there of shows like Houston, Earls Court and Hammersmith 79'. It's a shame that QP fail to see this.
