If Queen had nearly this much material in their vault, it would be something to wish for. That's not a knock against Queen. I was aware that Bruce had an album's worth of music recorded between Born To Run and Darkness. He was so overwhelmed after the rising success of Wild & Innocent and BTR that he worked and worked at The Promise album and never felt it good enough. Darkness was released more because of contractual obligation than anything else. When he finally got his shit together, he recorded and released The River, a double album.
Queen has no such lost album. And Bruce pretty much eats and sleeps in the studio, where Queen would go in, record, then tour, then take a break, then come back when it was album time again. Bruse also did solo albums without the E Street band. The man is a recording *machine*!
I plan to get this Darkness Boxed Set, though. Thanks for the heads up!
I still think the 2 CD + DVD format is the most ideal for the Universal Queen re-issues.
For Queen, having all the albums on vinyl and cd's each once. I'd like to just have a box set with the rarities rather than a re-re-release of the albums.
I imagine they'll re-release the albums so I'd like them to do a huge box set with the rarities, demos and b-sides
And for the albums, finish them with live versions of each song. Preferrably from an unreleased source (no MK, Montreal etc) but concentrate on the rarer stuff that WASN'T on a live album. (Say Liar over another KYA appearance)
I'd love it if each album got a Making of DVD, even Hot Space. If less popular albums or Flash Gordon had shorter documentaries, that be ok.
I will say, the Deluxe Editions of albums (Elton's Captain Fantastic & Goodbye Yellow Brick Road were 2 I can think of off the top of my head) are awesome, if they did THAT for the Queen albums, I'd buy them again. Otherwise, I won't shell out more money for a whole cd for 1-3 things I didn't have before. But add say B-Sides and unreleased completed tracks on Disc one and live stuff and demo's on disc 2 and I'm TOTALLY there!
