Is there a chance to see more releases in this great sound quality? No matter as a single release like "A Night..." and "The Game" a few years ago or as a bonus of future anniversary album releases? It's a shame that such great projects does not earn much efforts by the band.
Oh I think the band were very keen on the DVD-Audio format but unfortunately the music buying public was not and as such it is now essentially a "dead" format. We can only hope that in future re-issues of the albums we'll see DTS surround mixes included.
i LOOOOVVVVEEE the Night at the Opera DTS edition.
Although it's hard to come by the $$ to set up to 5.1 the music was stunning and the panning and depth was Utilized... unlike my edition of Songs of Faith And Devotion by Depeche Mode (which, despite being supervised by alan Wilder.... sounded worse than my regular Cd... since there was the added element of INCREDIBLE disappointment)
...guess he's still holding a grudge...
That said.. i wish i had bought THE GAME in DTS the ONE time i saw it at a shop.
now i hear it's basically a collectors item...tough to find.
BUT(!)... wouldn't it be great to hear QUEEN II and NEWS OF THE WORLD in DTS?
and maybe.... just MAYBE... someone can go back and ENTIRELY REMIX JAZZ....so it sounds good??
(audio mix....not the performances...those are great)
DVD-Audio, sadly, didn't get very far, but some artists are re-issuing their work in 5.1 surround mixes.
There was also the practice recently, which seems to have stopped, of artists releasing new album in both standard CD and 5.1 surround DVD. I know Barenaked Ladies' Everything For Everyone was releases on a surround version and more recently Rush's Snakes and Arrows had a deluxe box, with the DVD containing a 5.1 surround version and a documentary on the making of the album.
I've mention Mike Oldfield doing this currently, in a format that I'd love to see Queen copy or use as a model:
Disc 1 (CD):
Album (New Stereo Remaster)
Non-Album tracks (New Stereo Remaster)
Disc 2 (CD):
Album (Original Master)
Original Demos
Disc 3 (DVD):
Album (New 5.1 Remix)
Non-Album tracks (New 5.1 Remix)
Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds are doing the same thing, basically without the 2nd disc (no demos), but including on the DVD a documentary on the making of the album, plus the videos from it, and the 5.1 album and singles.
besides DVD-A there's also Greatest Video Hits 1 and 2 with dts tracks.
maybe one day they will remember that we are still waiting for GVH 3 with the Innuendo and Made in Heaven video in dts.
I know it's been discussed before, but for newcomers, here's the list of videos which could/should appear on GVH3.
Likely:
Innuendo
I'm Going Slightly Mad
Headlong
These Are The Days Of Our Lives (Animated)
These Are The Days Of Our Lives (B&W)
The Show Must Go On
Heaven For Everyone
Too Much Love Will Kill You
I Was Born To Love You
No One But You
Under Pressure (Rah Mix)
Maybe:
Somebody To Love (with George Michael)
The Show Must Go On (With Elton John)
C-lebrity (Al Murray's Happy Hour)
You never know:
Another One Bites The Dust (with Wyclef Jean)
The complete Made In Heaven: The Films should be included too.
The Boxsets Genesis released feature all albums mixed in DTS. They all sound brilliant, a real treat. I never listen to the regulars anymore. The clarity, then punch of the bass and drums, the balance between instruments and voices is exactly right. But, the Game and a Night at the Opera sound great in DTS, if they could just relase the rest in the same quality, that would be very special!

How about the Queen+5ive and Queen+Vanguard videos? At least the first could be mixed in a way to allow us to mute 5ive!!! :D
Cheers,
Ogre-
As mentioned, Blu Ray audio is the latest format for hd lossless audio.
At least all blu ray players will play the hd audio formats, unlike most DVD players at the time.
It just depends if there is a big enough market for 'quality audio' these days, which sadly thanks to mp3, iPods etc II don't think there is. Either way it's unlikely anyone at QP would have even of heard of Blu Ray Audio or have the know how to tap into it.

Maybe Jim Beach will hear a guy on a bus talk about BluRay Audio and offer him a job on the spot: to assemble and develop a new Queen release to be sold to the masses.
Ridiculous? Maybe... I can't think of another explanation for the Top 100 Bootlegs project, though.

LOL Wiley.
But maybe, JUST maybe the poor sop who ends up winning that meet and greet dinner thing could surprise us by asking (or even go further and DEMAND) Jim give us Queen fans QUALITY releases like the surround sound projects....or maybe an anthology boxset!! ;-)
