I'm looking for an online (e.g. Youtube) tutorial to Ogre Battle. All I've found so far is tutotials which start with the main riff, whereas I would like one that starts right at the beginning of the song, e.g. the mayhem which is before the main riff. Anyone know of any?
Thanks but he doesn't do the intro. It sounds like there's some 'masking' going on in the original studio album: perhaps it's not possible to replicate that.

Roughly 37-47 seconds of this video: link
Hi there!
You are talking about the part that is the intro played backward...
Some multi-effects pedals can play bits backward, wich gives you that kind of sound...
Live, I guess Brian was only making some crash noise with his trem arm...
Hope that helped a bit!
cheers
The 3 video tutorials for that song do cover all the themes. Intro, main riff, verses, chorus, solo and outro.
It does explain how the intro is simply the tail of the song that is then reversed (in studio) Watch the 3 of them and decide if it covers what you require? I'm quite sure that it will...
Pt 1: link
Pt 2: link
Pt 3: link

the INTRO is not other than the COMPLETE OUTRO PLAYED BACKWARDS.
Hi there!
By "live", I meant on stage...
cheers!

This guy plays the bit I was talking about/aboot.
There's nothing in any of his tutorials that he hasn't taken from other peoples work and badly passed on the info to others!!!
He can't even get the main theme pattern correct. His timing is terrible and he should work more on practising the stuff he's taken from others and trying to take the credit for them before running the VT.
All the tabs he uses have him playing the same mistakes the original tabber included...so, not only has he not actually gone thru them or vetted them (surely as a teacher for a profession you would??) but he makes hard work of positions too.
I'd have thunk that you should work out best areas to play and make it more learnable (is that really a word??) if you are offering some tuition?
Maybe it's just me?
.....and breathe!!!......
I agree with Ludwigs.
Also if you're watching that in order to learn the parts, the bit near the beginning where he says it goes something like that, would be a good point to switch off. He's "teaching" he should be saying. "It gies like this" and he should be getting it right.
I've seen far better on YouTube and on other sites and forums
I'm sure there are better guitarists on Youtube. But the question I asked originally was about a tutorial that covers the song before the main riff and his does. So it is possible to play normally the bit where on the record the intro is played backwards (even if it obvioulsy doesn't sound the same as the record). If anyone knows another tutorial please post the link.

I'm not really speaking about the practical 'ability' too much of this guy cause guitarists will always feel they are better than x, y & z etc....
If you are a teacher by profession then it is vital to know your subject matter before trying to pass on help, tips etc. This is quite important when playing an instrument. If the teacher (sic) shows you how to play badly and makes hard work of positions, string choice etc then this will restrict the player from moving further forward due to bad methods/advice.
The 1st Ogre Battle vid of the trilogy runs thru the reversed intro if it were played as per the song.ie: the result of the backward sound....
@ 2:41 it shows it.
is this the section you were referring to Holly?
The bit I wanted to know how to play is roughly 37-47 seconds of this video: link
I couldn't find a tutorial that covered that bit of the song until now (all seems to start at the main riff -- which, I agree, he plays poorly): link
He plays a version of the bit I'm interested in starting at approx 12 seconds in. I think it's fair enough that he says "it goes something like this" as on the vinyl it's not played "clean" and seems to be a tape running backwards, so it's just his interpretation of what's on the record. Sorry if I haven't been explaining this too well.

Holly, the time-frame point I suggested earlier has that very part. It's played thru twice also. (and it's been up since 2008.
Vid link just in case:
1st time @ 2:41
2nd time @ 3:41 link
Basix4, who produced the 3 video's of different sections that you posted earlier, is usually very accurate. The other guy not so much, although I respect his attempts.
Also, to be complete, just at the end of the reversed section both normal and backwards guitar play at the same time, which makes the transition smoother.
