No, I'm not talking about the TV show "Lost". A little game, here, just lighten things up... Make your own "Lost" Queen album, using the following: a) Only solo recordings from the four members, from any of their albums or singles, EXCEPT for solo tracks which appear on Made In Heaven (I have to put *some* obstacles in this game) b) The run time should be no less than around 40 minutes and no more than around 50 minutes. This is a fairly average window of length for an original studio album. c) You may use any remix or alternate version officially released, including single edits or extended versions. d) No "Covers" album, it's too easy, though you may use several cover songs in the "album." Extra props will be given to tracks which feature two or more members of the band. Even greater shout-outs go to those who can tie a theme or recurring motif into the "album". Here's my offering: Side 1 01) Love Kills (Wolf Euro Version) - FM 02) Love Lies Bleeding (Original Version) - The Cross + BM 03) The Business (Radio Edit) - BM 04) Love Me Like There's No Tomorrow - FM 05) New Dark Ages - The Cross 06) Back To The Light (Radio Edit) - BM Side 2 07) No Turning Back - The Immortals 08) Foolin' Around (1992 Brown Remix) - FM 09) Good Times Are Now - RT 10) The Great Pretender (1992 Malouf Remix) - FM 11) She Blows Hot And Cold - FM 12) It's An Illusion - RT + JD 13) Driven By You (Pollarded Version) - BM |

I was listening to some solo songs that had two or more band members on in. I thought, "hmm...almost a Queen album there." Later, I got thinking about all the solo stuff recorded after Freddie died, wondering which would have made awesome Queen songs if Freddie were still alive and entire band had works on them. Then I promptly forgot both ideas until I was replying to SirGH's "alternate Hot Space" thread and decided to share the idea with the world. |
lifetimefanofqueen 05.08.2010 14:49 |

lifetimefanofqueen 05.08.2010 14:52 |
cool ryyeking, it would be so funny if everyone on Queenzone all got together and made our own Queen album together, we could call it "the lost Queen album, by the Queenzoners" and we could all be famous stars like Queen, i know that wouldnt happen but its cool to imagine ;) |
rhyeking 05.08.2010 15:00 |
Uh...yeah... Have fun with that. When you're famous, say hi to Tommy Wiseau for me. |

1. China Belle (Bri) 2. No more Fun (Rog) 3. Touch the Sky (Rog) 4. My Love is dangerous (Fred) 5. My destination (the Cross) 6. She blows Hot and cold (Fred) 7. Dream of thee (Bri) 8. In charge of my Heart (Roger) 9. Heartland (the Cross) 10. How can I go on (ithout Caballé) 11. Let your Heart rule your Head (Bri) 12. Strange Frontier (Rog) |
rhyeking 05.08.2010 23:37 |
Interesting selections, Florian. Certainly some uncommon tracks in there! Nice to see. |
FlorianS 06.08.2010 00:11 |
1. China Belle (Bri) -> To me one of the solo tracks with the biggest Queen feeling. 2. No more Fun (Rog) -> One of my favorite Roger tracks, I always thought that Queen could have done a better effort with it. 3. Touch the Sky (Rog) -> Would love to hear Freddies voice on this one, and I think this one is one of Rogers best Queen-fitting tracks. 4. My Love is dangerous (Fred) -> Great rocker from Fred, though this would suit for Queen as well. 5. My destination (the Cross) -> Anotherone from Rog with seems also to suit for Queen in my opinion 6. She blows Hot and cold (Fred) -> Could easily have been a Queen track 7. Dream of thee (Bri) -> I think this one could have been a popular Queen track 8. In charge of my Heart (Roger) -> Isn't this one linked to 'Stealin'? I think the 12 minute version of Stealin contains some stuff which endet up as 'in charge of my Heart' 9. Heartland (the Cross) -> Also suitable for Fred and Queen 10. How can I go on (without Caballé) -> Love Fred's voice 11. Let your Heart rule your Head (Bri) -> Follw up to '39 12. Strange Frontier (Rog) -> Could also have been a hughe on if Fred would have put his hands on it, in my opinion. I was also thinking about 'happiness', 'new dark ages' and 'what are we made of' but dropped them. |

I'm diggin' the various selections thrown out here, so I put a bit more thought into this next list, trying to pin down a "concept". I decided there was plenty of Science Fiction dealt with by the band at different points, the idea was a Star-Wars-ian Space Opera. Make up whatever stories and characters you think fit. Also, I didn't want it all dominated by Roger's first two solo albums, which are Sci-Fi enough by themselves, so I limited the tracks taken from them. I also tried to keep a pretty interesting flow, sort of telling a story...or at least utilising some nice ebbs and flows. Side 1 01) Earth - Tim Staffell + BM + Morgan Fisher (from Amigo)* 02) Love Kills (Extended Version) - FM + BM + RT 03) Beautiful Dreams - RT 04) Cyborg - BM + Taylor Hawkins 05) Fun In Space - RT + David Richards Side 2 06) Star Fleet - BM + Friends 07) Horns Of Doom - FM + David Richards 08) Living On My Own (1993 Radio Mix) - FM 09) Manipulator (Extended Version) - The Cross + Steve Strange 10) I Cry For You (Extended Mix) - RT + JD * you can substitue the Smile version here, too. |

This is an interesting topic. Essentially you're asking what are our favourites of the guys solo work, (that haven't been 'upgraded' to Queen recordings). I'd plump for: 1) Love kills 2) Top of the world ma 3) Driven by you 4) Living on my own 5) Love lives bleeding 6) Man on fire 7) It's only make believe 8) New dark ages 9) Strange frontier 10) Touch the sky 11) No more fun 12) Where are you now 13) Business 14) Hand of fools 15) Life changes I'm not sure how well that would hang together as an album. As usual I probably haven't picked enough 'slowies'! |

A "Best of" solo collection with tracks from the four of them might not work on the same level of cohesiveness as, say, The Game or Queen II or A Night At The Opera. Very few albums by any artists are merely hit after hit after. However, you're correct that not every "favourite" is a "hit". |

Too bad, a Lost (tv show) Queen album would be awesome. Kate in Heaven We Will Locke You The Millionaire WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALTTTT!!!! |
rhyeking 06.08.2010 21:21 |
Yeah... . I don't watch Lost. Never saw an episode. Never really cared. I'm glad it's over because people no longer say, "Dude you should watch Lost, it's freakin' awesome!" |

BUT... without getting into a concept, or trying to create an album - just looking among the best Queen-adaptable material that I WISH had been worked on by the four... it would have to include: Love Kills (rock mix) Business Why Don't We Try Again there's more, but those tracks come to mind.... |
joesilvey 06.08.2010 23:28 |
and I agree completely with: How Can I Go On Let Your Heart Rule Your Head |

My two 'Lost' albums... WRITTEN IN THE STARS (Works group pic with black starry backdrop) Made In Heaven (ext version) Let Me Out She Blows Hot and Cold (Brian lead guitar or ext version) Your Kind of Lover (Solo Collection) It's An Illusion Man Made Paradise There Must Be More To Life Than This My Love Is Dangerous Love Me Like There's No Tomorrow (ext version) ************* the ever evolving, but holding steady after fiver years.... 'HORIZONS'....(cover art of a Montreaux sunset) The Dark (minus vocal intro) Time (TGP remix) Driven By You (or 'Business') She Blows Hot and Cold (or You Don't Fool Me, since it's not on my MIH version) London Town It's a Beautiful Day (45 edit).... (or The Great Pretender remix) I Can't Live With You (Rocks remake) (Love Token inst fadeout) Resurrection In My Defence (TGP remix) Last Horizon Some of MY favorites are not included here. Some solo tracks appear as replacements on my Queen albums. Others just don't work due to the flow or the sound mixing. We love 'Manipulator', 'Power To Love', BTTL, Barcelona, Guide Me Home/How Can I Go On', Touch The Sky ....etc......they just don't work, or fit, on what we want as a 'Queen' album, or we need a Freddie vocal intersperced throughout.....Love Kills and others ....well......they don't work or we don't like the synth crap........blah blah blah There are always five seconds of silence between sides one and two.....just like when we had to flip the vinyl over, if you were really fast. If these don't entirely fit the bill, as Lennon said whilst asking for an overdub during the 'Get Back' sessions, "You scoundrel, you cheat." |
rhyeking 10.08.2010 10:44 |
Goodco, you could just use the Single Version of "Resurrection" as well, then you wouldn't get the segue from "Love Token" (unless you want it there). |
*goodco* 12.08.2010 08:01 |
to rhyeking: The instrumental is intentional (a holdover from previous versions). With zero time gap, and volume up, it's a good follow up and segue. btw.....thanks for the comment and the fact that you read my post. |
rhyeking 12.08.2010 08:52 |
I read every post of the threads I'm interested in, particularly the ones I started! And yours was a good selection, by the way. |
