Brian posted a response at the invitation of The Sun (who will never print it in it's entirety I'm sure) on his website and on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/SaveMe2010#!/note.php?note_id=134980506512411&comments
Still, there is no getting around that it was entirely wrong thing to say in the circumstances, for any reason, and those babies very clearly remain afterthoughts for the entire Save Me community who continue directly and indirectly to accuse the family of lying, and worse in some ways, playing blame the victim. Focus on the foxes over the children is neither right or wrong exactly, as both issues are important and need champions, but I would guess it would make it hard for a rather large swath of the population to relate to people who organize and process information in a way that is so different from their own. It certainly makes it hard for me.
Will dig up Brian's TV appearance yesterday when I have time later, unless somebody else can do it first?
I probably agree with Brian on this one. I cant see how a creature this timid could possibly go in to a house, up the stairs and attack a two babys, i know foxes can be very vicious around other animals but i could not see one doing this, it could have been a cat or a dog since the back door was open like they said. grrrrrr we humans always blame these poor foxes for everything!!! It makes me sick!!!!!!!!
Just moving this post of mine from another thread. It probably belongs here.
Nobody speaking from a surfeit of emotion and righteousness ever does themselves any favours. His heart and intentions and perhaps even conclusions are firmly in the right place, but the fact that a man as brilliant, articulate and media savvy as he has not once but twice in recent weeks had to back pedal, defend and clarify public remarks is very telling. He needs an internal censor or an intervention in a big way right now in my opinion, because whether people are willing to say it out loud or not, he's harming his reputation. There are many of course whose respect for him has only grown from this, but I have to believe there are as many who can't quite belive what they're hearing. His self proclaimed long time habit of staying up all night doesn't help either. Middle of the night posts look weird, and there is less likely to be others around to bounce things off of etc.
As a follow up, The Sun took that big long response from Brian and reduced it to "Queen guitarist Brian May - who dismissed the attack on his website - backtracked yesterday, saying: "I have huge sympathy for the family." in a related story. Predictable, no?
