Hi everybody, Being a very recent Beatle fan and having bought all their albums and compilations ( among them their stunning and visually beautiful remasters and anthology works ), I would like to state what a satisfied and happy fan I am. According to diverse official certifications, the Beatles have sold more albums than any other artists. The fact of frequent releases of interesting and new material since their disband has probably contributed to that. The most important factor, according to me, is the never ending positive connection and COMMUNICATION between the fans and Apple records (their record company). The existence of a beautiful and up to date forum, owned by die hard fans which allows them to write their complains and demands, facilitates new releases. With other words : You want it all, You got it NOW! Ain't much they're asking, if you want the truth :) The Beatles are living and WILL continue to live, thanks to the marvelous work of Apple records, where no material belongs to anyone, but is happily and peacely shared with everyone, instead. I would like to ask YOU, dear Beatle fan, to share a minute of silence with me,in the memory of dying bands (from what I heard bands like Free, Bad company and Queen). |

The release and remastering of the Beatles albums and rarities is a relatively recent phenomenon. After the release of Let It Be in 1970, the only "new" Beatles material to hit the shelves were the two singles in the '90s, which coincided with the Anthologies. The Anthologies series, as you know, is not new material, but stuff from the vaults and from rare performances through their career. There's also the BBC collection, which is also simply the packaging of old, unreleased material. You're correct in that it's great to have these releases, but many Beatles fan bemoan that things things like the complete Decca audition (15 songs) have yet to be officially released to this day (only 5 appear on Anthology 1). Also, a lot of BBC recordings didn't make it onto that release, either for quality issues or because George Martin didn't want to double-up or triple-up songs. For twenty years, after the release of Let It Be, the only things released were different collections, like Rock & Roll Music, Love Songs and the Red & Blue collections (to name a few...there were a lot more). By comparison, if you view Made In Heaven and Let It Be on par with each other (both reworked, reproduced material after the "end" of the band), Queen has released: - a new original single ("No One But You") - multiple "Queen+" re-recordings - remixes - excellent remasters (severals times over) - multiple collections - 3 older live albums (one a re-issue) - a full new studio album ("The Cosmos Rocks") - two new live albums - a few new live singles Whether you appreciate every release I listed, the argument that Queen is a "dead" band is a poor one. Even if you take the position that Queen "ended" with the death of Freddie, the legacy of the original line-up is still going strong, even without the release of any Queen Anthologies. Their music is still used in movies and commercials, still played on the radio and still bought by casual fans worldwide. I'm not even going to go into the popularity of the the Musical worldwide. So...you were saying? Yeah, I like The Beatles remasters and stuff too. I wish they'd put out a new album, though, haha. |

If Queen are dead, then so are the Beatles. Its sufficient to express your preference and good for you mate, enjoy what you love. No need to be disparaging to other bands or fans. And i actually know the answer to the perennial question; 'who is the greatest of all time?' - It's who you, (any individual) say it is. Master Marathon Runner |

Gregory, re: >>The fact of frequent releases of interesting and new material since their disband. I suggest you go back to the start and check your facts, because you are wrong. |

rhyekings argument falls apart for one key reason:- the beatles maintained regular solo releases after they split. so they were not a dead band. Abbey Rd - the beatles masterpiece - was comparable to MIH. AR was the bits n pieces of songs melded together to make an album. Let It Be was already a complete album (recorded before Abbey Rd). If you listen to LIB Naked you hear how it was. Lennon getting the "wild-haired gun-slinger" in to add strings to stuff does not really count as reworking. and finally, between 69 (when the really split) and 95 when the anthologies arrived, the beatles solo stuff was more than plentiful. |

The original post didn't discuss the Beatles solo material, but if we want to bring that into the fold, so be it. Certainly the four Beatles had plenty of solo material and plenty of time (forty-odd years) to record it (with the except of John). Between 1990/1991 (the recording of Innuendo and the newer MIH tracks) and now (2010) Queen's solo output is respectable, even if it doesn't revival The Beatles in sheer volume. Keep in mind also that the Beatles releases span 8 years between "Please Please Me" and "Let It Be." They certainly out-perform many artists in terms of the sheer amount they released in such a short time, but they stopped touring in 1966, around the halfway mark, allowing for MUCH more studio time (and time to do solo projects). Queen, on the other hand, recorded from 1972 (Queen 1 sessions) to 1991 (plus some time in 1994/1995 for MIH sessions), which is mainly about 19 to 20 years, more than twice the span of time for which The Beatles were together. Not all of that time was spent in the studio, as Queen toured constantly (until 1986), indulged in solo projects and took breaks from each other at regular intervals in the '80s. So, back to my point, from 1991 on, we got the following solo stuff: Brian: Back To The Light Live At The Brixton Academy Numerous collaborations Another World + several 'Heroes' non-album tracks Furia Soundtrack Various non-album solo tracks ("Teasin' Around," "What Are We Made Of?"...) Roger: Blue Rock + a few non-album/live/remix tracks Happiness? + a few non-album/live/remix tracks Electric Fire + a few non-album/live/remix tracks "Woman, You're So Beautiful" Singles "The Unblinking Eye" Single Freddie (postumously): The FM Album/The Great Pretender The "Living On My Own" Remix Singles The FM Collection Boxed Set The Very Best Of FM That's in about twenty years. In the forty years since the Beatles broke up, they put out a lot more, for sure (McCartney alone is pushing 30 albums, between Solo, Wings, classical and other stuff). My original point still stands, that Queen is not a "dead" band. Besides, comparing The Beatles to Queen is stupid. Comparing The Beatles to anyone is stupid. The Beatles are like Shakespeare. Few, if any, can compete. |

How has this suddenly gone from The Beatles vs Queen and release strategies to encompassing solo material too? The original post had nothing to do with solo material, so let's leave that out. |

I'm inclined to consider this topic spam, especially when you take into account that it was puked out into multiple forums here. |

Actually, I think he was taking a piss at Queen for not doing what the Beatles have done. I don't think there's anything Queen can do to surpass Revolver in Full Stunning Stereo. |
Sheer Brass Neck 15.06.2010 23:17 |
Microwave, not even ANATO? More options, more instruments equals more tracks coming to life than Revolver. 5.1 of ANATO was a revelation. |
Micrówave 16.06.2010 13:21 |
Not even close. Night At The Opera was originally recorded in Stereo, Revolver was not. It was like hearing the album for the first time again. |

- ABBEY ROAD Until now, I've always just listened to the hits by the Beatles on the Red and Blue double CD's - but a month ago I bought Abbey Road and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band, and I have to say: ABBEY ROAD is the best album I've bought for years! It's so much variation in all the songs. The album opens with Come Toghether, followed by Something which says a lot. I think people who like Queen would like Abbey Road also...? |
Micrówave 17.06.2010 05:19 |
Yes, Abbey Road is greatness. Revolver is my favorite, but Abbey is #2 on my list. Side note: I wonder if that nut Manson has listened to the remastered White Album and if those "voices" are in stereo as well. |
