Here: It's in a VERY compressed mp3 format! But it's the only one I got! |
Kniggit 28.05.2010 05:02 |
Sounds like the original recording is in pretty good quality, would be nice if you could manage to get hold of it in a lossless shape. |

Wow, great! Did he really only record that one song? I remember reading a post by someone who said he saw the Vancouver '80 show and that FM was at his very very best. |
brians wig 28.05.2010 07:26 |
Bearing in mind it was 1980, why would anyone got o the trouble of sneaking in LARGE tape recorder and then just record one song? Sounds bonkers to me. |
Fireplace 28.05.2010 07:47 |
Simply delicious. Reminds me why I keep lurking around here every once in a while. Thanks! |

Gregsynth wrote: OK, I received an email from somebody who has a friend that went to some Queen concerts during the Game tour. He says he recorded one song "Rock It (Prime Jive)." He sent it to me via email. And it's AMAZING!!!! Freddie NAILS the intro notes (he hits two B4s and then hits a B5 IN FALSETTO!!!!!)! He says his friend thinks that was from the Vancouver 1980 concert--but Bob's site says nothing about a recording! ????? I REALLY want to share this, but I received it in an Mp3 format! :( Ok, ask about the original tape and whether a proper transfer is a possibility. That'd be great! My fingers are crossed that there's more. I'd kill for a new june/july 1980 show. |

Excellent ! Thanks very cool. |
jamster1111 28.05.2010 08:43 |
Ya I agree. No would go to the trouble to bring a recorder to just record one song. The rest of the concert or at least most of it has to be there |
LordOfAllDarkness 28.05.2010 09:43 |
This is amazing! If you manage to get the mp3 sourced concert please share it anyway I prefer an mp3 version to nothing :) |

Sorry, that was the first song of the "Hot Space" tour, or the second, just after the "Flash Theme" and they followed with the fast version of we will rock you. Montreal, 1982 I think. |
pittrek 28.05.2010 11:58 |
This song is the perfect example of how the mp3 format can destroy a wonderful recording :-( But of course, I'd LOVE to hear the full gig :-) |

No way that's 1982 Freddie, it sounds closer to 1980! |
GratefulFan 28.05.2010 13:04 |
Sigh. I heart Freddie & Queen immeasurably. Sometimes I forget a little, and then something like this brings it all home again. Thanks for the recording Greg. |
Gregsynth 28.05.2010 13:06 |
Don't thank me! Thank the guy who sent me the recording! I'm just sharing it! |
jamster1111 28.05.2010 13:52 |
I've heard nearly every record of rock it and I haven't never heard this before. It has to be from vancouver. and if not, it could be from san diego |
koldweather123 28.05.2010 15:19 |
Without a doubt thats 1980 Freddie, the version from Montreal 1982 is rather similar but GS is right in that this is played differently. I did think the same thing but having listened to it again they are different. Just to make sure I'll do some adjustments to the 82 show just to make sure, but I do think we have a bit of a gem here! Sounds like Freddie had his 'crazy tour' range still totally intact...not a shocker really! |
Gregsynth 28.05.2010 15:27 |
Agree with koldweather (Hi Sephiroth-LOL). I did some searching myself, and I pitched this version down 2 keys (to match the North American versions), and it doesn't sound right (Freddie sounds too deep in parts). Plus the tempo on this version doesn't sound extremely fast! |
jamster1111 28.05.2010 15:31 |
Plus, throughout the north american hot space tour freddie was strong but not nearly that strong to sustain a B4 for a couple seconds and then falsetto up from it. This is without a doubt got to be from the beginning of the game tour...probably before the chandler gig |
jamster1111 28.05.2010 15:31 |

No way! It could also be one of those Inglewood gigs? |
jamster1111 28.05.2010 15:43 |
Oh ya that is another possibility. But I'm going more towards Vancouver because it was the first gig of the tour and he sounds even better than chandler/phoenix which was a couple gigs later |
Gregsynth 28.05.2010 15:51 |
OK, going by your logic there's 4 gigs before Phoenix: Vancouver Seattle Portland San Diego Phoenix was after San Diego!! |
jamster1111 28.05.2010 16:01 |
Oh, i did not know about all those gigs. I went by Queenliveca's schedule not queenconcert's. My bad. So it could be vancouver, seattle, or san diego. My best bet is still vancouver |

From "Los Angeles Time", 8th July: "Things could easily be updated by including more songs from the undervalued "Jazz" album and by placing key songs from the new "The Game" album - especially the striking "Rock It" - in more prominent positions in the set." So, in this review we can see that Queen performed Rock It in San Diego (1980). But this is only an info; maybe they had performed this song also a few days ago in Vancouver. |

Holly2003 29.05.2010 06:49 |
Freddie sings the intro to Mustapha, and replying to the line "Allah I will pray for you," he adds, "Like fuck we will!" and then begins the meat of the song on the piano. Just as well Fred's dead otherwise he'd be the subject of a fatwa by some 13th century middle eastern meathead. |
jamster1111 29.05.2010 09:53 |
Yes, I have emailed Bob about this but he is probably extremely busy. I can't wait to see what he says. I talked to the person who found this and he said he said most of the tape was damaged over the years but he is trying to fix it. However, he said he remembers crazy little thing called love and we will rock you were also in this quality. He is currently transferring the cassette to a cd. Even if the other songs are in poor sound, it still worth a listen |

It's great to see we're all thrilled about this new find. Now, we have to make sure the recording gets out in the most complete form and in the best quality possible. |
jamster1111 29.05.2010 14:33 |
I will most likely have more recordings soon and I will let you know when! Also, Gregsynth will probably upload the complete (or almost complete) concert to his channel |

Haha! Imagine Bo Rhap from the concert (if it got recorded)! |
jamster1111 29.05.2010 15:46 |
Well let's see. Probably got everything in the verse, he probably took a shot at the high C in that song in WATC |
Fabio Tosti 29.05.2010 16:02 |
Or probabily not. Maybe it was one of the best concerts ever made or maybe "only" a great show. We don't know; we have only one song at the moment. I only hope the recordings are in decent quality to hear their best songs; even if we don't know which songs are available in this recording. |

This is amazing news! Thanks to everyone who's putting in the work to get the recording out there. As for the recording not being on my website.. naturally one can't know about every tape source that is out there. All I can do is assemble the knowledge into one place once it's known. Looking forward to more, should it come out. Freddie is clearly at the top of his game (no pun intended) here. |
jamster1111 29.05.2010 20:21 |
Hahaha Hi Bob! Yes, this is amazing news. If you haven;t heard it yet, I have uploaded it to youtube on my channel thebiggestqueenfan. I will let you know when I get more songs from the taper...it might be soon or it might a little while. All I know is from what I have heard so far, Freddie seems to being having an amazing night |
Gregsynth 29.05.2010 22:21 |
Yeah, pretty much what jamster1111 is saying is the whole story! We are waiting for some more material from this guy! He says that Crazy Little Thing Called Love, and We Will Rock You are in decent quality, and he's going to try to to "salvage" the tape. |

I thank all concerned: of course the taper but also you for bringing it to us;-) Is it now for sure that this show is Vancouver? I remember reading a post by someone - in a discussion about great vocalists - who said that he saw both Freddie and Robert Plant in their prime in Vancouver. The Queen-show was Vancouver'80 (don't remember whether he mentioned a specific Zep show). He said both sounded equally impressive and that Freddie hit everything perfectly during that Vancouver show he saw.... So...:-) |
Gregsynth 30.05.2010 03:49 |
Well, I don't want to jump to conclusions (it's still kinda early), but the guy believes it is from the Vancouver 1980 show! According to his emails, he received the tape (with the Queen stuff), from a friend who is a big fan of the band (who saw them on several early Game tour gigs). If what you said, and what my contact said match up: It IS the Vancouver show! Me and Jamster1111 are in contact with the guy (via email). If we get updates, we'll post them here! |
Gregsynth 30.05.2010 04:00 |
Here's what we (Jamster and myself) know so far: 1. The guy has confirmed 3 songs on the tape (Rock It, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, We Will Rock You) 2. He's currently trying to get the cassette tape "repaired" to get the sound quality a bit better (for more songs hopefully) 3. He's going to transfer the cassette tape stuff onto a CD and hopefully get it in a digital file form 4. He says "Rock It" was the first song recorded 5. It's an early Game Tour show (Vancouver-Inglewood time-frame) This is what we are working with, right now! |
jamster1111 30.05.2010 10:26 |
Ya Greg is correct. But I think it is most likely vancouver and that's what we should go with now. If the taper says it's from vancouver, than it probably is. Also, maybe rock it was the first song recorded on that side of the tape? |
GratefulFan 30.05.2010 11:37 |
I say Vancouver. As a general rule, whenever anything awesome happens odds are good that it happened in Canada. It's the water. ;) |

Finally a superb version of this song. Well done Greg. Been that busy recently I've being listening to nothing but Hits from time to time on Iphone. Great to have a day off and find this gem... gives me something to listen to while downloading the BBC sessions that have been kindly supplied by John. I love the USA 80s bootlegs. Freddie was in great great voice. I wonder if he tried the high notes in Bo Rap during this gig??? I'd guess he never, but if he managed to keep his voice in the same shape throughout the gig... who knows? |
Gregsynth 06.06.2010 00:11 |
ATTENTION: URGENT! I just received an email from the taper--Here's his response: "I went through the whole tape with my friend, and we were able to "salvage" the following songs: * WWYR (fast) * Let Me Entertain You * Rock It * Crazy little thing called love * Bohemian Rhapsody * We Are The Champions the songs are either mostly complete (with some cuts), or are 100% complete. the quality is kinda bad (muffled/distorted) but I think it's listenable. the rest of the tape was so degraded, that it was just constant humming/noise, etc." This is GREAT NEWS! 6 songs! |

jamster1111 06.06.2010 11:12 |
Ya exactly. They could have meant you can hear the song under all the hiss and distortion. The rest of the tape might turn out something like those horrible quality recordings from 1974 of the SHA tour |

I know that's was I was thinking too. I thought the dude was gonna surprise us and get it to us on the anniversary. Oh well. He did say 2 weeks ago that he was just cleaning them up and I would receive them shortly but I guess we just have to wait longer. We're lucky to have this. |

Ya SirGH is right. We might as well just be patient. We don't want to upset the nice guy who is giving us this recording. He is even cleaning it up for us so we are lucky. Hopefully, we will get it soon. When we do receive it, Gregsynth or I will let you know. |

Fake. This "Rock It" is from Montreal '82 with the tape sped up a key. From queenlive.ca |

I take no credit.. link |
jamster1111 15.08.2010 11:48 |
The funny this is that Freddie doesn't sound very pitched up. Usually pitching someone's voice up a whole step makes a huge difference. In this fake recording he just sounded like he did on the crazy tour, maybe just a bit higher. |
Gregsynth 15.08.2010 12:30 |
That's probably why that recording took so long to be labeled "fake." Freddie does sound "normal." It took Rick and his great observations/ears to hear SIMMONS DRUMS! lol |
inu-liger 15.08.2010 15:44 |
That would because they transposed the song a key lower during the '82 tour. And the jackass "taper" sped it up to original pitch! |

I absolutely love the excitement in the audience at the start of this. Really could've been kept as opener longer. Unusual but pure theatrics darling. At that time they had so many good openers though. |
