Hi there dear queenzoners!, maybe not many fans have noticed this recently, but this could be an interesting subject for a re-releasing back catalogue (such as 'The Freddie Mercury Box Set' nearly ten years ago) and perhaps and invaluable opportunity to see all brand new remastered catalogue, into the same way Iron Maiden has released all their records again with bonus tracks, etc. I'm sure we all know about the many re-releases EMI has done in a way or another, vinyl records, CD after CD, then gold-CDs, etc., but if you think for a while there's no official re-release for the back catalogue of the band excepts for these ones that comes to my mind instantly: 1991 - Hollywood Records (only in America, this was a 'brand-new' seal subsidiary of Walt Disney, includes all records, and future releases such as Live Magic in 1996 per example, but many fans have complaint it was not nearly as perfect) 1993/1994 - Digital Master Series (EMI Official with band collaboration) (all records until A Kind Of Magic) 1998 - 25 Years Box (only the first eight albums celebrating 25 years since the release of the first album, not complete again) 2002 - The Game/A Night At The Opera DVD re-releases (with the exception of 'Coming Soon' wich masters were lost by Queen Productions) 2004 - EMI Japanese vinyl-replica (someone says this was only a 'volume-up' releases only for Japan) 2009/2010 - Queen Singles Collection Box Sets (only the single tracks and non entire albums this time) But if you see all these stuff no-one has the complete catalogue as people demands it, there all bits of peaces and some people prefers certain collections, others none of them, etc. (personally I rather keep the 1993/1994, because there were really remasters made by the entire band on that point of time), but I was wondering in the near future if Universal Music give us a properly re-release with all the catalogue (bonus tracks, b-sides, live-tracks, each one separatey) to have the 'perfect' collection, being the same picture quality as the vinyls with some tidbits and, of course, a great sound improvement. So the discussion is open, let's hope for these releases coming soon worldwide, cheers! |

So your point is that everything's been re-released a dozen times, but never all at once, so they should re-release it again, and this time finish the job? Great, a QPL stooge..... |
Alejandro Siepe 25.05.2010 15:07 |
I think I was misunderstood, I was saying that the back catalogue has changed from one seal to another, maybe we'll see the day of light with all brand new catalogue (mainly studio albums) with 2CD per each, 1CD with the original tracks, and the second one with b-sides, demos and, some cases, rare live tracks, it'll be interesting from my (and think so many people too) point of view, don't you think so?, and, once and for all, stop releasing old stuff that we, the fans, really don't know wich collection is the right one, we would have this one the definitive one with an official statemente emited by Universal and Brian & Roger (nowadays 'the band') blessing these ones and it sealed the past with a fantastic gift for all of us (think about Iron Maiden re-releases some years ago), I think the fans deserve this kind of mega-release, see you soon folks! ps: and I'm not a QPL stooge pal!, I'm just a fan like you giving my kindest opinion about this subject, I think this is the right time to reivindicate Freddie & co. for once and for all, and fans have no to buy every japanese-german-korean release of each album, only the Universal official releases, just to think, and if Greg Brooks is reading this one, please take notice! |

We DO need the entire back catalogue remastering - the amazing sound quality of the Singles Collections and Absolute Greatest has proved that without a shadow of a doubt. I don't mind paying out again for a properly done set, but what I would object to is these re-releases taking priority over unreleased material, especially if it takes up those release slots - just like I feel the last two years have been wasted with the Singles Collections when we could have had something new and more worthwhile. |

Those are now the official masters for Japan and were released several times since (WE WILL ROCK YOU edition, 2008 vinyl replicas, etc.) Worthy of mention are also the MFSL/HR gold CDs (ANATO, ADATR, NOTW and JAZZ) and the gold CD of ANATO released in 2000 by DCC. And, by the way, QPL did not lose the Coming Soon multitrack masters - portions were missing from the original sessions material. |

Thanks Wilki for the correct data, that resume I made was the releases that came to my mind, besides I was wondering if you agree with me in this future releases by Universal Music, because I think that you're a famous fan and no-one but you knows this things better, so it would be great if Greg Brooks on his own persona could make something to make this happen. Probably this change of record company would make money worth to spend in these new releases once and for all. Wilki, once again, my regards and thanks for the comments, you're the greatest! |

Hey, Alejandro! I am currently working on a very detailed article about all the QUEEN remasters that have been released in the past 25 years. Your opinions are welcome. Please write me to wilkiamieva@fibertel.com.ar |

Wilki, just make sure you give the DCC ANATO the space it deserves in your article. It is the only good remaster. Actually, its absolutely magnificent. Everything else is a compressed, harsh, horrendous mess in comparison (with the exception of the MFSL's, which are fairly good, but not perfect). Including Ludwigs 2005 ANATO which makes my ears bleed. I'm guessing he'll fuck the 2011's, or more likely, will not be allowed by Universal/QP to do them properly. Sad really. Oh well, back to Vinyl. |
smilebrian 07.01.2011 21:37 |
Wilki, the MFSL was The Game not Jazz. Cheers. |

Brian disagreeing doesn't mean much. He talks up everything QP does as "the best". Back in 2004 he raved on and on about the Toshiba EMi Pete Mew remasters and how fabulous they sound, best ever, blah, blah, blah. They don't sound great at all. Heavy noise reduction and over EQ'd. Too busy saving Badgers then caring about the state of the back catalogue. |

I'm listening The Prophet's Song (DCC) at Youtube and I found it at first sight Good sound quality Very clean sound although a little bright sound Good channel separation The volume level is a little low i think It lacks some mid and most low frequencies I can hear a flat compressed audio, the transfers were done at 16 bits I think Of course its not the direct DCC sound .... I found less compressed the 24 bit 2004 EMI-Toshiba series, but they have too much distortion at high drum and sibilant is present on Freddie voice, and they are not as clean as DCC. Some said that series have only increased the volume level, but that is not true, they don't know about the DEEPER sound of 24 bits transfers. Greetings |

I stand corrected: MFSL released ANATO, ADATR, NOTW and THE GAME, indeed. The DCC remaster of ANATO is my personal favourite. Rest assured that it will be featured on the article. I even contacted Steve Hoffman and he was kind enough to give me some insight about his work on that remaster. |

Wilki, I can't wait to read your article and am especially interested in Steve Hoffman's comments. Great work, look forward to it! |
