Who exactly is Peaches in Now I'm Here? I've recently come across some old interviews of Brian and he's mentioned that Peaches was a girl he was in love with throughout the 70's and that at some point he lost contact with her until the later years with Queen when she got in touch with him. Can anybody shed some light on this mystery girl? Thank people!
No light on Peaches (I thought she was a dancer or something in a club in New Orleans, but I'm probably wrong) but I do faintly recall Brian discussing groupies and the temptation of sex outside his marriage, and him saying that he was a romantic and usually pining for somebody or other on the road rather than indulging in casual sex regularly. I can see that with him. Kind of a polyamorous serial monogamist. Hah. I also recall thinking it was rather harsh when he said he had married the wrong woman on national radio. It's a sad reality for lots of couples, but most of them don't say it out loud quite so publically. Not intended as a criticism, it just surprised me.
But you asked about Peaches didn't you. LOL
The Topicstarter already said everything I know about Peaches. I believe he met her on the first time he went to the United States (I believe it was New Orleans). And he looked her up again in the late 70's I think.
Didn't he write about it on his soapbox, or at least a recent interview?
Not only the "Peaches" part, but the whole song's meaning is rather obscure. It's been said that it's about touring in the USA but the lyrics don't tell much of a story. Probably only Queen, Peaches and Mott The Hoople members know for sure what's the deal with it. A private joke maybe.
Probably this "Peaches" meant more to Brian in 1974, then he married Chrissy and forgot her. That's why she probably wasn't worth to be mentioned again.
Now I understand the song "I Can't Live With You".
The lyrics "I can't live with you, I can't live without you" means that he is in love with a person (he can't live without her) but he can't live with this person because he is already married.
Our hero in the song lives a very complicated life.
As the only person with my precise name on the planet as far as I know (due to a super rare last name), the internet scares me a lot sometimes. Poor, stalked Peaches. :)
Fascinating - when you look up Deborah Vidacovich on Startpage images (a good alternative to google), all you find is pictures of Brian May and Anita !
Just looking through her photos and one of her friends calls her Peaches, so coupled with the fact she's associated with The Dungeon, I think that's pretty much conclusive.
She was quite nice looking back in the day. I can see why Brian may have taken a shine to her, BUT the lyric continues with "She made me live again".
Taking into account Brian's illness back in '74 whilst they were touring the States, promoting QII and doing signing sessions (some of which Brian didn't attend), it might simply be that Peaches was JUST a friend who gave Brian back the impetus to continue with Queen at a time he was feeling low - there may not have been any romantic shenanigans between them at all...
Lest someone brand me a stalker , I feel the need to clarify that I am not a stalker and kind of shy and would never approach someone like that ...ie...I'm not serious about looking her up !
