I like it too but I feel Freddie's voice was in such poor state that he couldn''t get away with everything.... Some songs don't work but of course the rest of the band was there to compensate and they did a brilliant job. In a way the video of that show is true testimony of the incredible talents of the band and Freddie in particular. His voice was completely gone and still he had everyone having a good time. The reactions to him throwing several tambourines in the audience during KYA is just awesome, that combined with the power of the rest of the boys. Great stuff! I prefer the Sapporo 06/05/1979 show though. Freddie does lots of brilliant things like in Dreamers ball, It's late, Love of my life is very beautiful.... His voice is better (though still far from great), and he is so creative... |

Sun City is in my top-10 too. Wish we had the second part... If that is as good as the first part it is a legendary Queen-performance:-) |

Such an epic show with many fantastic rock 'n roll moments. I totally adore the intro to KYA. Jailhouse rock is hot, It's late, IYCBT,... Great stuff! I've also got a soft spot for Oakland'82. Nobody ever mentions that one but it's a great one (not top-10 but still). NY 28/08/82 is wonderful too... |

I'll put mine down later but that Japan 79 gig is a good un, I quite like it as well, sure Freddie's voice is totally screwed but he does try his hardest and the band are good, Roger also really plays a big vocal role in this show, esp on songs like Don't stop me Now where he pretty much sang a big chunk. Another concert that may not be one of Fredie best vocally has to be Toyko 82, such a superb set list IMO with Saturday night alright for fighting, Spread your wings intro and Jailhouse Rock/blues jam in the same concert! I also have great love for Edinburgh 82, Boston 76, Copenhagen 78, Rainbow 74, Stockholm 86, 1st Toyko show and also Dublin 84...Sun City is another good un, IF it had SCC and GKR excerpts it'd be IMO one of the best setlists ever... |

I have to agree with everyone. I also love both Edinburgh '82 gigs, Vienna '82 gigs, Stockholm '86, Puebla '81 gigs, Montreal '81 gigs, and of course rainbow '74 gigs |

It took 10 posts for someone to mention Live Aid???? Some (self included) might argue that this was the best live performance by any band, ever. |

my bad. I didn't read your sentence after your list... jumped the gun. #11, really? I really do need to start watching some of these shows. I don't have any from your list... and obviously you (and Sir GH) know what you're talking about. Those '79 Japan shows you mention have me curious. It would be nice to see a compiled list of what Queen fans think the top 10 are. The ANNOUNCE section can be quite overwhelming. Instead of "What do Queen fans think of Jazz?" threads, perhaps reviews of individual concerts could be discussed more. Great thread. Unfortunately, I don't own 10 queen concerts, I have only officially released stuff, so my contribution to this thread would be minimal. |

Tokyo 5-1-75 Boston 1-30-76 London 6-6-77 Copenhagen 4-13-78 London 12-26-79 Sao Paulo 3-20-81 Leeds 5-29-82 Sun City 10-19-84 London 7-13-85 Stevenage 8-9-86 These are my top 10 essential Queen concerts (of those that are listenable for the average fan). It really was difficult to narrow it down! |
jamster1111 23.04.2010 08:44 |
Seems as though that list was slightly different than the one on the site. I actually agree with this one more |
The Real Wizard 23.04.2010 13:04 |
The one on my website included some of the not-so-good sounding ones. As collectors who have heard hundreds of shows, we can't be biased by the ones that happen to have good recordings. Without a doubt, the Bingley Hall and Glasgow Apollo shows were better than Earls Court in 77. But for someone who simply wants to experience the goodness of Queen live, I'd recommend Earls Court because it's an easier listen. |

Would be anybody interested here in a 40 min. long version of the Tokyo 79 video created from 3 pro-shot sources ? I think I haven't shared here some stuff for a while |

On later tours, they mixed them more - remember One Vision, Tie Your Mother Down, IN THE LAP OF THE GODS ...REVISITED, Seven Seas Of Rhye / Liar / Tear It Up / A KIND OF MAGIC ... |

But that was the very charm of it, the fact that they went through a diversity of styles before pounding you with the heavy stuff at the end. Sure thing, bring on the Tokyo 79 DVD. But is the third source the two Absolute Greatest downloads, aka lossy? |

Is this Tokyo 79 show one of the ones they supposedly have in the archives? This would be nice to hear, particularly if they were including Crazy Little Thing on the set list (possibly?) prior to it's release. Ahem, QPL, I would pay $20 for a nice DVD package of this show. |
