Hi everyone!
Like many Queen fan I fantasize about getting the kinda gear that Brian's using.
I've began to build a little gear: BMG RS, Fryer TB, Tonelab SE...
But, as I don't play in any rock band (yet...), I'm not sure I'd have the use of an AC30 at full capacity...
I play on an AD30VT (valvetronic combo), most of the times set on modelling AC30, wich is quite nice (especially because I can limitate it's power, while keeping a pretty decent tone)
But still I wonder, and hope anyone can give me some answer:
Has anyone try the AC30 vr?
Is it any good?
Would getting an AC15 be a closer approach to Brian sound, without risking getting to loud?
What is the difference between an AC (15 or 30) combo, and seperated AC (15/30) head + cabinet?
Is it any good to get an AC Head to use with loud speaker (from an high quality sound system)?
Many thanks in advance for taking the time to read me (and to answer!)
cheers!
Gotta have TUBES to make it sound right. I do NOT like those Valvetronic amps. Way over-priced. And you can't make it scream like a tube amp. I wasn't too impressed with the Brian May AC30 either.
Speakers are a concern, too. Those are not Alnico Blue speakers in the Valvetronic. And if you're gonna push the treble, you gotta have those or it'll sound like ass.
hi there!
Well theorically I know what you mean (but haven't try real tubes amp for now...)
But when you come from a basic transistor amp (my 1st guitar was from a "100€ guitar/amp/bag/strings pack") valvetronic sounds good, it's when you're searchig for a very precise tone you feel the lack of "i don't know what"...
what do you think about the NT? link
I've read that it's basically an AC15 head (but lighter)
Alnico Blue Speaker?
Do you think it'd be affordable to "build" a cabinet, using those?
Have a nice week end, Microwave!
I must tell you that when I saw you answered my topic, I got a little scared to get mocked about, thank you for your serious answer!

Well, they're about $250 a speaker. Plus the cabinets they make today are plastic, fake tolex looking stuff. Not very durable, if you're gonna move it around. My advice would be to find an older AC30. They were really built to last. And if they have the blues in them, they're probably still good. Pretty tough to blow those old 30s. Even if you're Brian May.
