Hi,
I have no report about fake Crazy yellow 12" from Colombia. Some time ago a rumour abot the yellow Bites the dust came out but I'm convinced that it was only because it appeared in multiple copies when colombian dealers discovered ebay. You have to consider that the Bites the dust fetched incredible sum in early 90's ( even 1000 UKP) and now you can have your very good copy for just 50 UKP. So I think that some collectors spread the voice that these copies were fake. But I think that if someone in Colombia had the facilities to print fakes colored vinyls he may have concentrated himself in producing much rarer issues like the grey Hot Space, blue or red Works, blue Killers, blue magic... where you could only press the fake vinyl and use the standard black vinyl ps. But believe me it's not so simple. There are indeed some differences in the matrix numbers, in terms of slighlty different date of pressing etched in the runoff groove but all are within few months.. This is why you may find same 12" in different colours or even in different yellow tone.
Hope this helps...
cheers Ferdy
I've often wondered why collectors are so into colored vinyl. They seem quite easy to counterfeit, as there are many discussions here concerning this.
The blue Bohemian, the Red & Green Live Killers, and a couple others were the only thing out there for years. Now, you can pick a color and song and it's probably out there somewhere, made by some guy in Turkey.
Microwave... your analisys is too simple... as in the last 20 years rare recordings surfaced same happened with records... once everybody took as reference fan club discography or early article from Record Collectors...but now things are much more different. Internet gave us a big hand in knowing more and getting in touch with once obscure countries... Bolivia Ecuador, Korea... etc.. why colored vinyls have special appeal? difficult to explain if not a collector... and your right it's a sort of mental sickness....:)
Yes, but you can't actually tell me (now) how many pink Columbian Bicycle Race 12" Vinyls are out there now. At one time, there might have been one. But now, who knows? And each different pressing makes all the other ones just a little less valuable, except the blue Bohemian. At least we know how many of those were made.
I have a red Africa-shaped Africa 7", which I'm not planning on parting with... sorry Mando.
Looks real nice next to my blue Australia shaped Down Under Men At Work disc.
