Whitney Houston was booed by fans as she played her first live date in the UK in over a decade. The US pop superstar belatedly kicked off the European leg of her comeback world tour at the LG Arena in Birmingham last night. But the show has come under fire over the quality of her vocals and an extended costume change which saw the singer leave the stage and her brother take over. "It's the worst concert I've ever been to in my life," complained one fan after the concert, while another said there was "too much talking and not enough singing". "I could hear you getting p***ed off," Whitney told fans when she finally resumed the gig after a 20-minute absence. Her ‘Nothing But Love' tour has already been blighted by problems, with a string of shows postponed on doctor's orders. Last week's opening date in Paris, France had to be cancelled when Houston succumbed to an upper respiratory infection [Daily Mail]. Heres Whitney doing a belter of a vocal crack at that show in Birmingham during I Will Always Love You - check it out from the 3rd minute onwards..... link Well done Whitney............. hahahahahah!! :) |

Wow. Starts with 'b' and rhymes with 'rutal'. |

Whitney is a sad reminder of what happens when you abuse your voice and do too many drugs. |

What's Jon Bon Jovi's excuse then? He's even worse than Whitney Houston, but his fans continue to justify it. He barely hits one of the high notes in Bed Of Roses and fans say, "See, he's still got it!!" even though he's nothing more than a shadow of his old stuff. I genuinely wonder, why the blind allegiance for JBJ and not for WH? Either way, it makes you appreciate all those recordings of Freddie Mercury's worst shows. Even though his range was chewed, he still never got pitchy as he was clever enough to be able to reconstruct melodies on the fly to be suitable for the range he did have. |

As a concert goer I would feel disappointed and somewhat ripped off by Whitney's above performance. I would not feel disappointed or ripped off by the one below in any way, and frankly it's hard to imagine anyone would. I don't follow Bon Jovi so don't know what's up with them in detail, but there was nothing wrong with that. Americans love redemption stories, but it's fairly clear Whitney remains too fragile and too damaged for consistent performances at this time. link |

Speaking of Whitney, has everybody seen this? It's been making the rounds recently. It takes a minute or so to not want to giggle a bit, but really he's quite stunning if you can appreciate this sort of thing. Must have been what the castrati of old sounded like. |

Even if Freddie's voice was totally blown (Japan 1976, Japan 1979, Zurich 1986, etc), he almost ALWAYS was on key. His live pitch was excellent. |

The difference between Jon Bon Jovi and Whitney is that Whitney could sing once, bu has lost it, whereas JBJ was always a weak singer and there's nowhere to go from that point but down. Richie Sambora was the glue that held that band together, and JBJ was only eye candy for the ladies. |

Most of Freddie's "off days" were better than a lot of other singers "on days". I heard the Whitney clip on early moring radio (the Real Radio Breakfast Show) and I actually thought it was a wind-up that that show sometimes does. Then I checked it out on YouTube. WOW how the "mighty" have fallen..... JBJ is another "singer" out there that is trading on past glories. How that band have churned out some absolute drivel in the last 10 years. |

I agree that Sambora is the brains of the operation (David Bryan and Tico Torres are great, solid players as well). But JBJ was an excellent singer circa 1992-96. These Days is actually a superb rock album. Also check out any song from Yokohama 96 on youtube. At one point he really did have the goods. |

To get back on topic... Whitney Houston was a great singer. She just isnt now. Every gig she does from now on is just another nail in her coffin. |

This is what I don't get: Whitney's voice is GONE from years of drug abuse, smoking, etc. Yet ELTON JOHN, Mick Jagger, and to an extent Freddie Mercury still have/had it. Granted Elton John is a baritone now (not a tenor), but he's always on key and puts on top live performances at 63! |

I guess there's this fine of of being a singer: You use your voice too much--you will run into trouble. If you DON'T use it for awhile, you will run into trouble! |
tcc 23.04.2010 00:22 |
I can't resist posting this: She probably lost her voice through too much yelling at her husband and kid. Women lose a lot when they become wives and mothers. |

What, are you guys smoking crack? Or perhaps that's what we need to do for it to sound right. |
