Right. This has grabbed my attention for a long while now and simply won't let go, so I'm afraid I'm going to have to share this with all of you, to at least see if any of you have noticed it, as well! When Freddie sings "One heeaarrrrrrrtttt" in the second verse of 'One Vision', it ALWAYS sounds to me like it's being sung by Kurt Cobain (who I also greatly admire/have adored since I was a teenager.) Has anyone else heard this similarity? I'm too tired to post back-to-back comparisons, but the best Nirvana song I can compare the 'heart' thing with is 'Spank Thru'. Especially live. |
EnglanE 22.03.2010 15:31 |
SOMEONE must know what I'm talking about, surely?! In the second line of 'One Vision' (not the second verse, sorry, I was extremely tired when I originally posted this topic!) when Freddie sings "One hearrrrrrtttt!" that "hearrrrttt" sounds JUST like Kurt Cobain, or if Kurt Cobain had sung it... |
lalaalalaa 22.03.2010 15:43 |
Not really. Kurt Cobain sucked. That's just my opinion of him though. |
mike hunt 22.03.2010 15:46 |
Cobain is the most overated muscian of all time, couldn't sing, not a good guitarist either. The answer to you're question is no!..... |
EnglanE 22.03.2010 15:48 |
I'm not looking for your opinions of him. He clearly does sound like Cobain for that one word. Nevermind. |
GratefulFan 22.03.2010 15:58 |
They sound identical right about now. |
EnglanE 22.03.2010 16:02 |
YES!! Oh, thank you, GratefulFan. I knew you'd come through with the goods, haha. I am SO glad someone else hears it, and even more glad it's you! :) |

he's joking, because they are both dead. At the moment it seems liek you're the only one who hears it, but someone else might share your opinion. |

Kurt Cobain once sang "Load up on guns, bring your friends" Yet, Queen had a song called 'Friends will Be Friends" Spooky....... |

I don't know Nirvana well enough to recognize an isolated sound like that, but this thread did send me off to YouTube to listen to 'One Vision' when I almost certainly wouldn't have today. So thanks for that little hit of Freddie EnglanE. :) |

The only reason Kurt Cobain is so popular is BECAUSE he blew his brains out. Had he lived, he would have faded into obscurity. Don't insult Freddie by comparing him to someone who sounded like he was having trouble taking a shit on stage into a microphone. |

Nevermind has sold more copies than any one Queen album. So, I don't think they (he) would have faded into obscurity somehow -spearheading a movement of music kind of gives you immortality. And rightly so. |

I'll stand up for the late Kurt and say he was a very distinctive vocalist, great song writer and far from a shit guitarist. It all comes down to personal taste of course. Nevermind isn't over rated, it's a classic, not a dud track on there. Worlds apart from Freddie of course, couldn't be any more different. I can't hear the similarity in the line from One Vision though, to get back to the original thread! |

Kids maybe, but once all grown up most will agree that queen, the stones, the who and all those classic bands were on a higher level. Even these days....the only people who consider nirvana great are either kids or the media/music critics. |

And rightly so. Yeah, worldwide -but I realise of course that album sales don't reflect talent (I always thought The Tea Party were destined to be the biggest band in the world, but...) Queen for me will always be the greatest band ever -but I think the whole Seattle scene was much needed to save us all from Genesis and Whitney Houston. And Nevermind really was a cracker of an album I must say. Kurt was due to work with Michael Stipe around the time of his death. I can only guess at how amazing that could have been. Might go listen to Bleach. |

I am an adult. I still love Nirvana as much as I did when I was a teenager and I still listen to Bleach, Nevermind and In Utero from time to time. But I hear NO similarity between Freddie and Kurt, sorry |

I know what your talking about. Seems people on this forum are only interested in the fact that Cobain shot himself. Meh... |

And rightly so. they have their place in history for sure...nothing we say hear will change that, but if i had to pick one band that i think is overated it will be nirvana. i said that about GNR, but at least they had slash that brought some real talent to that band. Nirvana had a horrible lead singer, horrible guitar work. nothing from the bass playing. Then to compare that with a night at the opera or queen2 is criminal. It's only my opinion here folks....I don't judge the man for shooting himself....no one's perfect, and in some way's i don't blame the guy. this world is a shit hole. That reminds me...if they're is anything that i relate to in their music it's gotta be the lryics. even than i prefer the goofy fun lryics of queen over the shoot my brains out lryics from nirvana even though i relate to it. |
Makka 23.03.2010 12:04 |
No....I don't believe there is any similarity at all. And I have nothing against Cobain. I'm 40 and still love cranking up Nevermind. |
JacquesDaniels 23.03.2010 12:20 |
Not that much similarity, but yeah, I can well imagine Kurt Cobain sing at least the verse parts of One Vision. Not that he would anymore, of course. Nirvana was not a bad band as such, it just takes some time to hear the genius behind the somewhat sloppy exterior in their music. And even if Kurt didn't have my favourite style of singing, he was a damn powerful vocalist. |

cobain was at best an ordinary song-writer who produced plodding, monotone dirges very little came out of that style of music that will not date worse than AKOM or any Europe/Bon Jovi albums |

brENsKi wrote: cobain was at best an ordinary song-writer who produced plodding, monotone dirges very little came out of that style of music that will not date worse than AKOM or any Europe/Bon Jovi albums Agreed, no one even now talks much about nirvana. The band sounds dated. Only a few songs have stayed the course. |
the dude 1366 23.03.2010 18:38 |
All I can read here that is positive about Nirvana is "Nevermind". So what! One 'good' album does not even come close to comparing to Queen or any classic bands. Nirvana was part of a crappy grunge phase that did not last. Crap doesn't last . Did you hear the "Unplugged" album? That was crap and a half! Seriously, people. If he had not shot himself, he would not even be talked about right now. He was NOT a super talented person who died too soon, leaving us with only speculation as to what he would have done next. He peaked at Nevermind, and then went straight downhill from crap to shit! |
thunderbolt 31742 24.03.2010 02:13 |
Comparing Freddie's voice with Kurt Cobain's is...yeah...I don't know. Kurt's style was the scratchy vocals of, "I have a mediocre voice, I know it, and I don't give a sh*t." Freddie's style was anything but. I don't know that Queen ever really sounded like Nirvana at all. Like, ever. And for the record, I thank God every day that Nirvana existed, because it gave us one of the best live bands of all time (The Foo Fighters). Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of Nirvana's stuff, but I'm far more of a Foos fan than I'll ever be a Nirvana fan. |

I was relistening to One Vision recently. While I do consider Cobain to have been a wonderful vocalist, I don't think he and Freddie sounded alike at all. So in answer to the question, when I listen to One Vison, I don't think of Cobain at all. |
