Did you at least also back it up directly in digital form before 'archiving' it? |
vessel 21.03.2010 12:55 |
Is this the same version as the De Lane Lea demo? |

vessel wrote: Is this the same version as the De Lane Lea demo?Yes - but I have only ever seen this as reel-reel tape. To see the acetate "in action" is a real treat. Ferdy: Are you sure this is an 8" disc - and not a 7" single or 10" test press acatate? I personally, never knew 8" acetates existed. |
ferdy 21.03.2010 14:10 |
Yes John.. it's 8" and it was a great thrill to play it .. that's why I filmed it. Even with camera mic you could hear how song is clean and loud comparing to the "in the beginning" cd version. Now a question to you.... why this acetate exist....? for what I know de lane tapes were from 1971.. was this a direct transfer to acetate from tapes months later?? or what?? |
Jam Monkey 21.03.2010 14:47 |
Thanks for uploading this; the quality of this De Lane Lea demo is certainly better than we have had before. 8" Acetates are very rare, but I have seen a few for sale at eil.com. |
Soundfreak 21.03.2010 15:34 |
Very interesting, it sounds clearer that the known version. But is it stereo? It's hard to tell from that video. BTW, great record player! |

I don't know is the simple answer. However, my best educated guess would be that this should be a reference acetate cut for one of the band or the sound engineers or technicians. (If genuine) it was cut at the time. All acetates are immediate. There would be no reason to cut an actetate retrospectively, as tape would be more convenient and cheaper. The only exception to this rule would be if an unreleased track (say "Cool Cat" for example) was revisited as part of a Greatest Hits or retrospective LP. But, even then this would be an LP and not single acetate. |

i like this one more than the one that was put on the album. |

Love the guitars on this version. We know they were testing the new studios for 'bleed' so that's how they came to do these sessions and perhaps this acetate was made for further technical testing of the studios that they could only assess by this method? Or maybe it has nothing to do with this at all... |

So Roger really WAS playing drums and not cardboard boxes then :-) Wonderful! Imagine what the masters sound like........ |
brENsKi 22.03.2010 14:55 |
yes definitely sounds like the de lane lea if you cue them up you can hear the match in the start of second verse "it all began" |

Any chance John S Stuart could do something similar with the Hangman acetate he supposedly has in his possession? |

The DLL version of Jesus is far, FAR more common and widely available and that Hangman acetate is still worth a shitload of money, partly since it has not been heard or leaked to most people out there. |

Thank you very much!!! As said before by others, this version sounds very clear, even with the "indirect" camera recording. The large instrumental part towards the end, sounds for me like a live improvisation. Maybe they felt it was simple too long for the first album in this form, because Liar is also very long, and the instrumental bits in Liar are a bit more special. But who knows? |

The same stuff we have heard before but in a different fomat? Depends what floats your boat I guess. I know and appreciate the rarity of acetates but this is just common stuff.......... being played by a needle. |

So presumably they were considering using that take on the album and remixed it before re-recording it (nothing else would explain why Trident acetates exist for it). |

Is there any chance you have a proper digital transfer of it? :) |
