Brilliant! I'm not familiar with the Flash album to know which bits
you used, but as a piece, it's fun, and well put together. The 'double up' drumming bit at about 2½ mins was the only part which didn't work for me, and. technically, the end 'Flash' section seems to have a couple of abrupt edits, but you've definitely had some good ideas with this one, and I could imagine Queen using the orchestral intro as a concert opener, driving straight into The Hero. How great would that have been!
This is probably the best mix I have heard from you yet, so well done! [/img]
Seriously, I'm pulling your plonker. It is indeed your best mix yet and the idea is certainly an unexpected one.
I cannot agree with Lord Fickles comments as a whole because I don't know how you mix them and how he listens to them. What I mean by that is when I do my mixes, I have my PC connected to the stereo and use the lovely big speakers I have, my reasoning being that this is how I listen to my music 99% of the time, so if it sounds alright through those then that's fine. Obviously this covers up faults that may be more apparant if you listen to music via headphones.
Sure, the last section where i think you must have used a vocal cut option does change sound quality a little, but i wouldn't say it's an abrupt edit. Nothing in this mix "jars" for me to the degree that it ruins the whole piece. That said, you're getting the opinion of a commoner here as opposed to Lord Fickles more professional 'Brian May nit-picking' approach - which is what you get from a pro - and if that sounds like a put down my Lord, rest assured it's actually a compliment!
I have to emphasise that nothing 'jars' in this mix enough to spoil it for me either, and, strangely, after now hearing it for fifth or sixth time, it actually seems smoother than perhaps I first thought. I'm still not sure about the 'double' drumming bit at about 2:30, but as I have already said, this is definitely the best mix I have heard from you.
Hi Word,
Your transition from the orchestral opening to the album version is nicely done, and the dubble drum part is - like Lord said - something that (for me) doesn't really work that well.
All in all, I think it's good listenable, I don't really mind the edits but at 3:44 and 3:45 it sounds a bit hollow, but that's the transition from the normal to the instrumental/karaoke version I assume.
Thanks Guys for your kind comments. I do know what you mean about the slight echo sound on the drums, but I was really going for the reverb effect with the 2nd guitar, unfortunately the drums came along for the ride :-( but I thought it was a slight "Trade off". for the desired effect.
Brians wig, Yes I do listen through my headphones while mixing, altough, sometimes things do slip by (i.e. the missing a beat twice on my Fat Bottomed Girls mix, to be honest I didn't hear that I had missed a beat, until Lord Fickle pointed it out, & now yes I do notice it) that's why I value your "Honest" oppinions.
So far, this is your most adventurous mix, and I'm pretty stoked on it...definately thinking outside the box on this one! I don't really hear the other errors that everyone else is mentioning, but maybe I will later...but I'm not going out of my way to do so either.
