Does anybody ever get tired of Queen (from time to time, of course)? If not, why not? And if so, why? And if you always come back (which I assume is all of us), what brings you back? |

Well, I've been a die hard for about 7 years, and I reach points where I get away from Queen and listen to some other stuff to bring back some freshness in their music. I still talk about them everyday, haha, but I allow myself more freedom in order to appreciate their music even more (if that makes sense). |

I just turned the big 60, and never tire of Queen. It is not only that they were/are top drawer at their art but that they recorded so many genres of music. You just don't listen to a Queen album and feel like you have been inundated in variations on the same theme. It seems to me that the glue that always makes Queen recognizeable despite their various adventures in material is the combination of Freddie's voice and Brian's guitar, with Brian's guitar being as much a trademark as a Harley-Davidson motorcycle's oink. Occasionally I do venture briefly into other territory but am soon back to Queen, and usually with great relief. I guess they are the music of my comfort zone. |
dragon-fly 07.03.2010 04:59 |
Well, I don't get tired of Queen, but I don't listen to them everyday either. These days I try to explore more of other music. I think it would be boring to listen to the same band everyday. But once in a while it's so nice to put Queen record and I feel like coming home. :) |
fmarsong 07.03.2010 05:56 |
Never,No WAy ill get tired of Queen...only if ill die |
Rien 07.03.2010 06:04 |
No, I never get bored of Queen. I've been following them since 1974 and their music has always been a part of me since then. Sometimes I don't play their music for a short while (because of all the other music I like and play) but then I make time to play their catalogue from Queen, Queen II onwards. Or I just pick an album or various songs, depending on my mood. I've copied all songs onto my harddisk and select tracks to play as a set. When I need a kind of boost I mostly start with News Of The World and play it LOUD. Sames goes for JAZZ. I really "understood" the quality of JAZZ years after it's release. It's an album to play LOUD ! I can easily turn to Roger's songs as well. Brian has some great tracks as well, solo, but they does not come up in my mind to play at first. But there's always time to listen to Queen. Even in "repeat" mode! :-) I had no idea back in the seventies that 30 years later the songs would sound as fresh as when I first heard them. But they do. Amazing. |

I am incredibly tired of Queen, but the community still offers the odd bit of amusement, or (on rare occasions) the odd stimulating idea or discussion. I will always love the music, but I don't have it on every day like I did from 2002-2006. Seriously, listening to any band non-stop for 4 years will have an effect. |
pittrek 07.03.2010 08:21 |
I got tired of Queen so many times during the last years ... But the strange thing is that I always "come back" . There's something "magical" about their music, simply "It's a kind of magic " :-) |

Still love Queen, but I certainly dont play their songs everyday like I used to. Its more like every 6 months or so. At the moment, I am listening more to old Status Quo and Rush and even Toyah. |

Things are a bit dull in Queen World at the moment. No new Tour yet,no new album or much chance of there being one. I must admit that i don't listen to Queen very much these days.I tend to listen to Muse,Stereophonics,Dream Theater,Peter Gabriel etc. But i do always have a Queen music day, probably once a month.Bit like sex really!!!Ha |
Amazon 07.03.2010 11:40 |
When I was younger, I did get tired of Queen. However, that was because I was listening to them non-stop, especially the Prophet's Song, which I got particularly bored of. Now that my musical diet is alot more diverse, I don't overdo Queen, and in fact I make sure that I don't listen to them as much as I had previously. Thus, when I return to them, they are always fresh. Since they are like my 'comfort' music, the freshness really helps. |
rubens 07.03.2010 12:26 |
Well, I listen to their music non-stop for more than a decade now and I simple can't get tired of it.There are so many diferent styles and textures that it seems to be more than a single band. I think when you like Queen you get a complete service, there is something for everybody and every moment. Course I listen to others bands too. |
spender75 07.03.2010 13:12 |
No, dont get tired of Queen! only get tired of the fact that Freddie is gone and there is no new music to talk about or Queen tour! Unfortuanately there is nothing more to add to Queen. Kind of like the Beatles, we all love the Beatles but John and George are now gone and like Queen, there is nothing more that they can add. |
Sith 07.03.2010 13:23 |
Been listening to Queen since 1975 and yes, I have gotten bored of listening to their songs but only because of over kill. When I took a break from their music for a while, I learned to appreciate their less popular songs such as Lily of The Valley, My Melancholy Blues. I love listening to them now. |
ParisNair 07.03.2010 13:31 |
I like the term "comfort music" that many have used here, and it can be used in my case too. I am 28 1/2 y.o. and listened to Queen for the first time in the mid 90s. Though I liked them right from the start, I became a fan and completely obssessed by their music only in 2000 or 2001. And I have listened to their songs continuosly since then, and I have not got bored at all. I mix up the songs, I sometimes listen to only those songs sung by Brian or Roger, sometimes only the hard songs and sometimes only the pop songs of the 80s. There are a few songs which I absolutely hated when I heard the first time - like Sha Makes Me, Invisible Man, Raiin Must Fall, Modern Times Rock n Roll, etc But then sudenly felt like listenign to them and then spent the next month or so only those songs. I listen to other bands too, and some of my other favourites are Prince, Meatloaf, Matmatah (French band), Sophie B. Hawkins, Shania Twain, Erasure and Alizee. And a couple of years ago I listend to metal a lot (not anymore, just can;t stand that genre now). But Queen is the only band I can listen to any time of the day. |

I'm a bit of a newbie, but I have been listening to Queen non stop since last year, every single day, (as well as 'Mr. Bad Guy' and 'Barcelona', because I'm obsessed with Freddie!) and I am not bored in the slightest. I always make a Queen play list to listen to when I do the dishes, as well, haha. Technically, Silverchair are my favourite band, but yeah, I can literally listen to Queen every single day and really embrace it! I tend to favour their later albums 'The Miracle' and 'Innuendo', specifically. |

When the Queen name began to be involved in so many inferior things as musicals, publicities, terrific duets, and finally this idiotic project "Queen +PR", I was geting tired. I prefered to listen my second favourite band Marillion ( the early albums with Fish). Besides I was in a big confrontation with many people in the bulgarian Queen forum because they did not share my opinion, but they did not respect it too. Finally I left this forum, and I will never come back. The most precious thing to me is to be alone with the music by Queen. And I don't need the intermediation of the vicious world around. I understand perfectly Brian May and Roger Taylor, but I felt myself plundered to see what they do on behalf of Queen. I hope they had geting tired too to use Queen as mark of their weakly enterprices. The Queen history finish with the album "Made In Heaven". |

very much so yes.... 1. tired of.... same old tired old compilations and shoddy releases 2. tired of....same old crappy collaborations 3. tired of....no new worthwhile releases of any real interest to us "older" fans 4. tired of....having to listen to the same four albums Queen II, Races, Queen I and NOTW...just to remind myself that they didn't used to be tired, old, past it and mediocre yes.....in a nutshell...the one word i would 100% use to define my feelings toward post-1991 queen is "TIRED" |

I am consistently amazed at just how much power Freddie had, not only as a singer and a showman, but also as a pianist and a songwriter, in general. And the fact that when this man was DYING he STILL gave every single song absolutely everything he had. There are no words to describe how I feel about that. |

I used to get soooo tired of Queen in my teens, possibly a combination of a restless soul and overkill as so many others here, but I always got back to listening to Queen... mainly because of their superiority to all other bands, IMO no other band have had such diversity and quality throughout the years and albums, to me 99% of the songs are masterpieces and I wouldn't say that about any other band or artist. Nowadays I never get tired of them, my remedy for getting tired of Queen is to be engaged to a man that can't stand listening to them. We work in shifts and every third week we have 7 days when we both are free from work, ergo one week when I don't listen to Queen at all (although I at times catch myself singing Queen loudly). So at the end of these 7 days I can't wait to get in my car and play Queen LOUD! [/img] My soon to be husband says that he never have to worry 'bout me having an affair cause he knows my only true love next to him is Queen. When we moved in together I had more Queen stuff than his entire music collection, so he knew what he was up for... lol |

Like I got 'Queen' album for Xmas & I've only listened to it ONCE oh the shame! *slaps self* & also I got very angry at my photography book therefore got angry at 'The Game' Album that was playing for no apparent reason(altough it was playing don't try suicide) I did feel bad about that, so erm sorry. oh & I need to start staring at my Queen posters more lovingly. Is that Boredom Or pure neglectence^?? But I could enver get bored with Queen...even if I did I'd always come crawling back...I just need to get my CD's & books out again :-) |

Very well said...! I've been listening to Queen since 1989 and still need my daily dosis...but I'm not as obsessed as I was in my teen years of course. I listen a lot to Eurythmics/Annie Lennox and Bowie these days or early 80's (dark) wave in general - but as posted by so many of you before: listening to Queen feels like coming home. That music is - without any doubt - part of my life, so never really get tired of listening to them, no. Just like you don't get tired of seeing yourself in the mirror every morning... ;) |

Though I never get tired of Queen there are many periods where they blend back into the whole of all the things I listen to. Then, without fail, I'll read or hear something here or elsewhere that sends me off to YouTube or to an album track or the live recordings for one reason or another, and I'm freshly blown away by things I've heard or seen dozens of times simply because it's all so damn good. |

I've gone through periods of time when I don't listen to Queen at all... like right now. Usually another artist's work steals the spotlight and I start listening to them for a while. I blame Clint Mansell and the Kronos Quartet this time. But I usually turn back after a few months (or slightly longer). |

With the lack of any new material (of any worth), I'm certainly tiring of Queen Must be said that CR exceptionally disappointing as was the tour - which, in my opinion, was the first 'Queen' tour where there had been no progress from previous outings Now in my mid-40's, I DO wish I could live some moments again: 1st Queen album (NOTW) - discovering an unexpected and awsome talent in Freddie Mercury (who I'd previously dismissed as a Robet Plant wannabe, in my teenage wisdom!)- eagerly waiting for Jazz and feeling totally let-down (I Do see some worth in the album now but then it was just paper-thin drums and weak songs..) first tour (Crazy Tour - Glasgow) - realising that nobody could hold a candle to Queen stage presence - ears ringing for days! Buying Live Killers the day it came out and running home to play... HATING them for Hot Space but loving the tour Loving the Works but hating them for a limited-stop tour Taping every clip on TV I'm sure many are familiar with the rest Have to say though, I AM tired of Queen these days. Wish FM was still here and they had the work ethos of RUSH Dont like these tacky re-issues, art with a capital F. Wish they had ditched DoRo and made some proper vids..... Wish the later songs had better lyrics and actually meant something Had a ramble - off to bed Sorry to bore |

Queen are always a part of the music I listen too, but what I do drift in and out of is my Queen 'hobby', collecting etc. I have a couple of hobbies and tend to rotate them, so I might collect alot of Queen, then lose interest for a while, then come back to it. When I not into Queen I mainly do geneology. |

i don't play queen as much as i used to. mind you i don't play a hell of a lot of anything, although i go thru' stages.i tend to use my mp3 player mostly. i don't bother watching music video shows anymore either. the reason is i rarely see/hear anything i like. so my collection is mostly older classic rock stuff, which can get a little boring unless i'm very much in the mood. just trying to think of the last band i got into? probably fleet foxes, but that was a few years ago now. |

Queen is the one thing I will never get tired of. Been a fan since... ever? 28 years now. I have Queen playing at least once a day since I was born. I remember november 24/25th 1991 very clearly and I was about 8 yrs old then. Played Queen non-stop for a month or so. That was the peak of my passion and it had just grown. Now is more like love. As in marriages. There is a phrase in a book called Freddie and Me (a comic book written by a fan) that is "When I think of Queen I can remember my whole life" and that's so true. Queen gave me so many different records, songs and everything. It's quite impossible to get tired. When you get tired of AKOM you have SHA. And you have Jazz. You have Innuendo. You have Queen related and solo stuff. So much diversity. Sometimes I get tired of the Beatles and take a break from them. But Queen, oh no. Queen is everlasting. My grandchildren will be listen to it for sure. |

Never, Queen do very brilliant and cool music. I heard a lot of bands in my life and Queen is one of the better, if not the best. Those days i like a lot of bands, but Muse are the only in the level of Queen. I'm not saying i only heard Queen, The Strokes, Coldplay, Triana (A spanish band), u2 (I prefer the old u2), Foo Fighters.... and a lot more I love the music, and Queen is the royalty of the music!!! |

I'm not tired of Queen. I'm tired of Brian and Roger doing nothing about releasing vintage Queen dvds. If they put their egos aside, they could get the Q+PR - PR lineup together, tour theaters, and play the songs that they wrote and sang on Queen lps and some of the songs that they wrote, but Freddie sang. A couple of Freddie songs to round out the setlist would give them plenty of songs to play. |

Never! Actually, in all honesty, Wayne's World kicked me off on the road, and first couple of times I listened to Bo Rhap I couldn't believe a song could be so glorious and tremendous! Seriously, I went through a phase that lasted about seven months where I made it my mission to listen to Bo Rhap three times a day without fail! Fan of the band since 2007 and proud of it!!!!! Now my listens of Bo Rhap have lessened to about once a week, maybe even less, but only to experience more awesome Queen material, but I have another life musically, so I'm not a 'daily-dose-of-Queen-or-I'll-explode' person. Ocassionally I will venture into other places. Recently I've been listening to a lot of The Clash, Jimi Hendrix and Blondie. Another direction for me is an utter life-long love (for as long as I can remember) - The Carpenters! You may be wondering "Why would any Queen fan go for the mellowness of the Carpenters?" Reason being, Karen Carpenter's voice is a crystal lullaby! And for those people who think they're a soft and mellow group, listen to Goodbye to Love - Tony Peluso's (R.I.P.) guitar solo in the middle could make him near enough rival Brian! Click this link for proof! link And for those of you who admire Karen, click this link for a very interesting mix... [cue suspenseful music] link Some will think its sacrilege, but its a wonderful tribute, including the way they've mixed the track within my reason. |

Even though he was sick , that line in mother love is STILL untoucheble. The guy WAS magic. For me , Queen is the ultimate band. They are what i call complete musicians that was not limited into one style, they did various different styles and made them in my oppinion better than others. Many think beatles , led zepplin etc is the best but i think they have nothing against queen and freddie. Freddie was music. |

I've never grown sick of Queen or any of their related works (Smile, solo albums, etc.) in the 20-some years I've been a fan, but there are periods when I'm not listening to them regularly. Inevitably, they work their way back into greater rotation. Sometimes, I'll be into a new album by another artist, or reacquainting myself with another band I like, or I just don't have time to listen to much of anything. In the end, and this is true of many of the bands and artists I like, after a bit of time away, coming back brings a renewed appreciation for the work, like running into an old friend and having a drink together. |

Hey I'm 15 too so you're not alone dude. I do sometimes not so much get sick of queen as sort of forget about them. I go off and explore other artists or genres etc. But no matter what, within about 3 months I'm back. I don't know what it is but whenever I go away and come back, I switch on some Queen and it blows me away EVERY time. Freddie's voice has become so familiar to me know, its like listening to my brother or someone like that. The sound is the most phenomenal thing though. Thats what got me liking Queen in the first place. They're just so distinctive. There's no mistaking Freddie's voice or Brian's guitar sounds. There's no mistaking the wall of sound, so richly textured and varied that seems to define the Queen sound. I think that's what always brings me back to Queen, the fact that now that I know something like Queen exists, I can go off for a month or two and listen to someone like Bon Jovi or Journey but I always get bored of hearing the same old genre done the exact same way over and over again. Queen were just so varied and diversely talented. |
