Best single is a different matter to 'best/favourite' song. Scandal is a very good song, but not a very good choice of single (Was It All Worth It would have been better). I also feel the same of 'Tie Your Mother Down' funnily enough - a Queen favourite, but possibly not the greatest track as a single (in my opinion), which could be backed up by a weak chart position (certainly in the UK). Equally, Body Language is not a good song, but could possibly be seen as a good choice as a single. Spread Your Wings is one of my favourite tracks, and a great single, but I'm not sure why it didn't 'take off' after WWRY/WATC |

Objectively speaking, Bo Rhap was the best, and Body Language the worst. Personally, I think that there were many great ones - Killer Queen, WWRY/WATC, Crazy Little Thing, AOBTD, Flash, Under Pressure, Radio Ga Ga, Break Free, A Kind Of Magic, WWTLF, I Want It All, Innuendo, Slightly Mad (overlooked everywhere, apart from Hong Kong), Show Must Go On (initially overlooked as well, how come it only climbed to No.16 in the UK?!?), Bo Rhap/These Are The Days, Somebody To Love (with G. Michael), Heaven For Everyone, Winter's Tale. My least favourite are probably Back Chat, Calling All Girls (US only, but still), Friends, Headlong (I always thought that Ride the Wild Wind would have worked so much better). |

It's alright to not like those songs, but it's like saying queens worst single is bo rhap or another one bites the dust....you could hate those songs all you want, but they're still among the bands best singles regardless. |

Body Language was a good single. It was very representative of the music on the Hot Space album and it did chart higher than Under Pressure and other 80's singles, after all. To me, a bad single has to be a song with no commercial appeal, released with zero promotion and not even played live. Something like Jealousy or Long Away. What were they thinking? On the other hand, I enjoy those songs more than I enjoy Back Chat. I think that was Queen at its lowest and the video is embarrasing. Freddie tries SO HARD to sell that pile of crap. |

Do I have bad taste in music? haha :) I was a youngster at the time, but remember it well....forget about the whole homophobia thing people try to say....Fans didn't care less about if freddie was gay. Back then as a kid either you were a rocker or guido...rarely both, so when queen went for the dance sound the fans were put off. It started with another one bites the dust, but the old rock fans forgave them for that one song... hot space is the album that lost their fan base for good. They did manage one more top 40 with radio ga ga. But Queen didn't help matters by not touring the sates, also kept releasing pop/dance songs like i want to break free. As fas as the game....It does boggle the mind why need you loving tonight and prime Jive Bombed, both great catchy tunes. Other songs I'm surprised didn't hit it big in the states are Don't stop me now, spread your wings. play the game. The show must go on should have been huge everywhere. |

By the early 90's in the USA, bands like Queen weren't selling singles as well as they usually did. They always had classic rock radio to rely on, though. Thus is why 'Headlong' and 'Innuendo' made it onto the mainstream rock charts. And the mainstream rock charts (aka radio/classic rock radio), always enjoyed the heavier side of Queen, thus is why they had some B-sides that hit the mainstream rock charts, and the A-sides hardly sold as a single. These Are The Days Of Our Lives just wasn't the kind of thing the United States wanted to hear in 1991. The lack of releasing CD and vinyl singles in the United States also put a hamper on things. Sure, they had promos, but radio back in those days didn't just rely on promo singles, they liked the released stuff. Releasing singles in the USA as mostly cassettes only in '89 and '91, was a big fat waste for Queen in the USA... though Hollywood Records thought it was the best thing ever. They probably didn't even mind when the songs didn't chart, just as long as they exhisted. Obviously, things weren't running smoothly with the newly Hollywood Records back in those days. It didn't help any that there were no interviews in '91 with Freddie in them. Fans always wanted to hear what he had to say, and even though he WAS capable, he just couldn't handle facing the public, not even for an interview... especially since the AIDS that started out in the mid-80s... even though, the USA paid no attention to that. I think Freddie really turned his back on North America by the late 1980s. The last thing he had to do (interview wise) with the United States was the interview in '86 for Entertainment Tonight (behind the scenes of the 'Princes Of The Universe' video)... "I'll be doing it in a wheel chair, darling!"... and sadly, that he did... in the studio at least. It's not just record companies at fault for Queen's lack of success in the 1980s and 1990s in the United States, it's was also Freddie and John's, due to the lack of interviews. People could always argue with me about the sales of singles, but Aerosmith couldn't even have a #1 song until Diane Warren wrote a track for them, haw... haw... haw! |

Also, Capitol Records had their own damn press/reviewers... and the idiots would totally say some harsh things like "Queen is a great band, and they are all wonderful song writers, yet their songs are labeled heavy metal by their most loyal fans... office workers" ...
