Queen Boston Garden Boston Mass Feb 9th 1977 Here it is the link from dimeadozen!!! http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=291365&viewcomm=3824166#comm3824166 Taken from dimeadozen: Don’t read this if you hate stories. I was asked to put this up by many folks. Sound quality is much better than I remembered. This was one of those nights where I was mixing a little smoke, girls, and taping. The girl I’m with decides to take a couple of qualudes while she and her friends were in the ladies room….so she is useless. I get into the Boston Garden and the row I have tickets for (14th row I think) is now the 1st row. I mean right at the edge of the stage. I cannot even see the stage, it’s too high. Queen has extended the stage out into the floor area. My seat is right in the corner where the original stage ends and the extension begins. There is a huge commotion in this area because people are pissed about where they are sitting. You are being escorted to about midway on the floor of the Garden, where folding chairs have been set up for everyone. I decide to stay with my 1st row seats. Thin Lizzy has begun their set. I try and set up to record but between the usher and the people trying to figure out what has happened, things are very difficult. So I capture the end of the Thin Lizzy set sitting in my seat. The Queen intro starts and I begin recording. I try and stand on my seat but the usher cautions me to sit down (you will hear him say this several times on the tape). So I record the first 2 songs from my seat again. About midway thru ‘White Queen’ everyone stands and there isn’t much the usher can do except to say “sit down”. I stand up holding my microphone (which I had painted black a few weeks earlier). The trouble is I can just barely see the top of the stage and the cable to my microphone is pulled taut. This causes one of the channels to cut out intermittently. After ‘Bring Back That Leroy Brown’ I sat down and changed cassettes, picked up the TC152 recording deck and put it on my seat. Then I stood on the arm rests in order to get higher than stage level and started recording. At this height, the sound off the stage was fabulous. I stayed there for most off the show, but my mic cord was still taut, so I still ended up getting an intermittent channel/noise issue. To make matters worse, some guy jumped into my seat when I tried to move the deck. As I yelled at him to get back, I ended up accidentally turning the VU Meter lights on, which caused the batteries to drain quickly. So though I was holding my mic after ‘Liar’, I just wasn’t taping anything. One other thing: something odd happened. I was standing on the arm rests; this would have been midway through the show. I am holding my mic as high as I can. Freddie comes over to my corner of the stage while singing. It was strange. I’m holding a mic and Freddie is only 20-30ft from me and he is holding a mic. I know he looked over in my direction which caused me to pull the mic towards my chest. I can’t explain it. It was an odd feeling. So many things went wrong at this show, and my deck got crushed and cracked that I almost went back to taping FM broadcasts and thought about giving up trying to do anything at the Boston Garden. ' I used Goldwav to fix the channel dropouts. However I left the intermittent mic cable blips in as I am not as proficient as others and didn’t want to butcher this recording (which was butchered already). This recording is coming from my reels as I no longer have the original cassettes in my possession. Queen Boston Garden, Boston Mass Feb 9th 1977 Audience Recording (Incomplete) Total Time: 80:35 1. This is absolutely superb! If necessary, I'll share a remaster here, as the taper said a bit more work could be done on it. We shall see.. |

So I've spent last 3 days clicking on dime's search button every 5 minutes and he shares it when I'm back at work :-) What is the sound quality ? |

I'm sure there's some tidying that could be done but sadly there's not much room for sonic improvement. This is one of those where it is what it is - best suggestion is to turn down the bass a little when you play it. A little touch somewhere around 200Hz ought to do it.... |

I actually like the extra bit of bottom end, as it feels like you're in the concert hall. The atmosphere on the recording is just excellent. |

Until now I have found dropouts in Somebody To Love, Killer Queen, Brighton Rock, intro '39. Fixed this with nero wave editor by coping the right channel into the left and then with stereo broadening try to fix the stereo effect. It is not perfect but at least the dropouts are gone and it absolute sounds better. Stereo issue's are mainly in Somebody To Love, Brighton Rock and '39, again with stereo broadening tried to make the difference a little less...it is better but I am not satisfied. Tried to fix the speed error at the end of Liar, but there's not much to do there. Finally cut down the bass around 200 hz as proposed by Stark. Maybe somebody can do this with proffesional equipment? It's absolutely worth it! Hey sit down people!! [/img] |

Of course It's no problem for me, but first of all I will upload here some examples. When you like it, since It always has to do with personal taste, I will upload the rest as a seperate share. Things I have tried to fix: missing stereo effect and dropouts in Somebody To Love around 39 - 44 sec, 1 min and 4,02. cut down the bass around 200 Hz. |

Sounds great! Note that the tape is a bit slow for the bulk of the show, speeds up a little bit by BoRhap where it's correct for 3 songs, and is a bit too quick by Liar, which is usually what happens when the battery is running out. Maybe you can correct this too ?? |

Guys, I need some help. I am downloading at 225Kb/s but uploading at only 0.2Kb/s. I am trying to find info on how to fix this but I can't find anything in the Dime FAQ or Wiki. Could please someone tell me how to seed with a decent speed? Thanks a lot! |
The Real Wizard 23.02.2010 23:03 |
It's a firewall issue, my friend. I've been trying to solve the problem for years, too. Some sites I can upload quickly to, but others I can't. |
Nordico 24.02.2010 04:44 |
Ok! I'm working on it! |
