Hello everyone. Once upon a long ago for some reason I collected bootlegs and had several hundreds of them. These days I don't give a shit about bootlegs anymore and just want to hear a good sounding version of a song. No need to have full shows, I just want to hear how the song was performed live and that's it.
Now my question: any chance someone did compilations of every tour with all the tracks performed during the tour put together on a single set? For example, the Hot Space tour had quite some tracks which were and weren't performed during the various legs of the tour. I think Rock It was used as an opener during some of the American shows, Put Out The Fire was performed in Japan, Body Language was performed at some gigs - but I don't want to have 4 or 5 different shows on my PC because I simply don't listen to them.
Did someone put a compilation like this together, with several shows from a tour mixed together as one continious piece including the one-off tracks, interesting or rare performances and stuff like that? If yes, where can I get it? Or is this something I'm going to have to do myself one day :)
Same question goes for solo material: Brian did lots of interesting alternate tracks during his 1998 tour (Spanish and French versions of Another World, only performing Business at the first couple of shows, only performing Why Don't We Try Again at the first gig in Gijon, With A Little Help From My Friends in Sheffield, Sail Away Sweet Sister at a couple of gigs in Japan/UK etc).
Assuming you're after the best-sounding versions of each song, avoiding official releases wherever possible, here's a rough idea of what you're looking for..
Queen - Golders Green 73 + Hangman from Liverpool
Queen II - London 3-31-74 + See What A Fool I've Been, Big Spender, Bama Lama Bama Loo from Portland, Great King Rat from Waterbury, Jailhouse Rock from New York
SHA - Tokyo 5-1-75 + Father To Son from Milwaukee
ANATO - Boston 76 + Hangman and Modern Times RnR from Milwaukee, See What A Fool from Hammersmith 75
ADATR - Earls Court 77 + Sweet Lady from Copenhagen, Big Spender from Seattle, I'm A Man from Glasgow
NOTW - Houston 77 + See What A Fool from London 10-6-77, Doing All Right and Saturday Night's Alright from New York, Spread Your Wings and It's Late from Copenhagen 78, White Queen from London 78
Jazz - Chicago 78 + Don't Stop Me Now from Frankfurt 79, Mustapha intro from Zurich, Big Spender and Jailhouse Rock from Paris 3-1-79, Teo Torriatte from Osaka 79
Crazy - Hammersmith 79 + Liar from Newcastle

Flash - Tokyo 2-16-81 + Need Your Loving Tonight from Buenos Aires 2-28-81, Somebody To Love from Sao Paulo, Under Pressure from Montreal, Imagine from Frankfurt 80
Hot Space - Vienna 5-12-82 + Not Fade Away from Stockholm, Liar from Zurich, Body Language from Vienna, Las Palabras bit from Milton Keynes, Rock It from Boston, Life Is Real from Chicago, Teo Torriatte from Sapporo, Calling All Girls and Put Out The Fire from Tokyo
Works - Sun City 84 (first half), Birmingham 9-2-84 (second half) + Sheer Heart Attack from Birmingham 8-31-84, Staying Power from Birmingham 9-2-84, Not Fade Away from London 9-4-84, Mustapha from Milan, '39 from Leiden
Magic - Mannheim + full Friends Will Be Friends from Leiden 6-11-86, Immigrant Song from Berlin, Big Spender from Leiden 6-12-86, Saturday Night's Alright from Cologne, Mustapha intro from Vienna, Tavaszi szél from Budapest
It depends on how far you want to go, too. Do you want the little things referenced in guitar solos and cover medleys? Then we'll be getting into We Wish You A Merry Christmas from Birmingham 80, Brahms Lullaby a few times in 84, Waltzing Matilda in Melbourne 85, Danny Boy in Slane 86, etc.
I'm no expert on solo stuff.. but it looks like you have the right idea for Brian's stuff. For 93, all you need is the LA show, Let Me Out from New York, and a few tracks from the Brixton and Hammersmith gigs if I'm not mistaken. As for Roger.. he didn't seem to shake up the setlists too much, so one show from 95 and 99 each should cover it. If you have the tools to compile all this stuff, then have fun! All the source material should be here at QZ.
I'd certainly welcome something like this. I've never collected alot of live shows, mainly because there are so many of them and it would be such a huge task. Then you add in the complication of different versions, and multiple sources etc. I just don't know where to begin...
Some Zeppelin shows have as many as 7 or 8 sources, and dozens of bootlegs of them..... and these guys know every one of them inside out. Kind of scary, actually..
I have compiled the best songs in each tour mentioned by the wizard in the post above from the various good sounding bootlegs. The files also include songs mentioned as the best rendition of a song by various qz members in various threads. If there is interest in this, I can torrent the files.
