Whilst watching the Montreal and Live at the bowl, whilst Roger is playing he is not looking at the dums but constantly staring at the floor to his left
He does not do this at Wembley
I know its a strange comment but its just a strange thing i noticed!!!
Being a long time drummer I can say two things here, first off, whenever I have been filmed playing I tend to pull a fari few faces as well...no idea why, just seems to be what happens.
The other part is that you count a fair bit during a song, at least in parts of it so often you tend to mouth the count while playing.
Well, I'm a drummer myself and I do that same thing sometimes (looking at the floor), when I do that it's mostly because I have to play 16th notes (single-handedly) fast (like Dragon Attack live) or trying to keep the right tempo at a tricky part.
I think thats an important point, it is physically more comfortable to be bent over looking down the way Roger does when on the hi hat. Playing the same thing sitting upright probably wouldn't be possible, not for very long anyway. PLUS... he has to look somewhere!
- Roger, so what is it with you staring in the space/talking to yourself/miming eating while drumming? Will you do the same on your upcoming Taylor-Taylor tour? Will your eye blink during "The Unblinking Eye"?
Having been a drummer for over 20 yars now I always find myself staring down at the floor when playing over the hi-hat. It's just a natural reaction while playing.
When playing guitar if I'm really into the moment I unknowingly let my mouth hang open. I've caught myself doing it in the past. And believe me it wasn't because I was playing great or even well for that matter!
I agree, Bonzo might have been the most "talkative" when he played the drums.
his eyes are sensitive to light; the front spotlights and front rig lights hit him, so he turns his head to avoid the light in his eyes. Thats also why he is seen wearing sunglasses when not necessary, kind of like Bono...
-laughs- I've always noticed rogers, 'sandwhich' habit. I always think of it as it looks like he's always about to throw up!! And, he does look down a lot. Strange drummer.

I'm also a drummer.
Since I have the same habit to look at the floor while playing, I can only say that is a way to stay concentrated in keeping the right tempo and stuff...
Sometimes is boring to watch at the crowd all concert long.
