A mash up of the Queen classic "We Will Rock You"
and the ES Posthumus recording "Posthumus Zone (Theme to the NFL on
CBS)" is set for a video tease to be used in connection with the CBS
Sports Super Bowl XLIV football coverage according to the official
Queen website.
The audio features original vocals by Freddie Mercury, new guitar layout by Brian May, and a big orchestra.
The mash up will be used for one day, February 7, 2010 in a 2m30sec video
teaser to be exhibited in the pre game Super Bowl television coverage.
The audio will also be used in bumpers and teasers throughout the Super
Bowl game television coverage and week prior Super Bowl television
promos to be aired on the CBS and its affiliates network.
The 2010 Super Bowl television coverage on February 7 will be worldwide via
CBS Sports for North America and via the NFL and NFL International for
the rest of the world.
A few years ago when Prince performed at the Superbowl Half Time, We Will Rock You was played just before he appeared on-stage. And possibly it has been played numerous other times too.
I wonder how much dough Queen gets for a Superbowl playing of WWRY as opposed to a regular season college basketball game or some such. Surely it's a chunk of the advertising revenue that goes to them, did that increase as crazy as the cost of a 30 second spot over the years? I believe last year's 30 second spot cost 2 million dollars.
This isn't just another Super Bowl commercial of WWRY, Brian is coming out with a new guitar layout mashed up with CBS posthumans theme, should be different and new.
From Brian:
"Yes, I'm excited. ... I just played some new guitar on a new 'mashup' version of WWRY which these guys [E
S Posthumus] have been producing for the Superbowl. It features US, including Freddie's original vocal, an exploding super-giant orchestra, and some great ideas. As far as I know it's not a secret ... I must have heard a thousand versions of WWRY over the years, but this is the best of them all ... since the original hit the stores on the News of the World album. I do not use the word 'awesome' lightly ... but everyone who has heard this so far has come out with some kind of expletive ! I kid you not - seriously these Posthumus guys are brilliant. I poured my heart out on guitar ... and the files have now gone back to Franz and Helmut .... I can't wait to hear their final mix. It's got to be done live some day ... "
