OK, I'm going to pick up from the post about the "Jazz" album. I'm curious what everyone thinks. What do you think is the worst song (or songs) in Queen's catalog? Just for fun: Let's pick up to three. Here are mine: "Get Down, Make Love", "My Baby Does Me", and "Staying Power". (I don't think I'm going to win any friends with my choices, but there you have it.) |
Bo Rhap 31.01.2010 17:49 |
I cant believe the same guy who wrote Bohemian Rhapsody would go and write a song like Body Language. That to me is the worst song that Queen have done.In fact apart from two or maybe even three songs on that Hot Space album, that album was the worst songs that Queen ever did. |

Crikey! what a topic to broach!- I think you've got to accept that the boys were forever trying to break new ground, they refused to stand still, so their efforts should'nt be judged in retrospect-some things worked, somet hings did'nt But they came up trumps most o the time Final thought, the words 'weakest' and 'Queen'dont really run together. Delilah!! Worst song EVER! I had to re-edit Innuendo and remove that track! Embarrassing! |

What an original topic. Why do you want these people's opinions? Everyone on this site is an utter cunt- myself included. |

1) "Hot Space" minus "Under Pressure" 2) Pain Is So Close To Pleasure 3) Delilah Only 3? Jesus In the Lap of the Gods (not revisited) She Makes Me (Stormtrooper in Stilettos) Sweet Lady (don't hate it, but not a big fan of this one) The Millionaire Waltz (the only decent part is the heavy part) Jealousy If You Can't Beat Them In Only Seven Days Fun It (absolute crap) Leaving Home Ain't Easy More of That Jazz Don't Try Suicide (never really cared for this one) "Flash Gordon" (the entire thing; "The Hero" is just o.k.) Man on the Prowl (a 5th rate "Crazy Little Thing Called Love") Machines (Or 'Back to Humans') Don't Lose Your Head Party Khashoggi's Ship Rain Must Fall Scandal My Baby Does Me All God's People Not a huge fan of the "Made In Heaven" cd. |

I have to go with the Jazz album as a whole (minus the obvious, FBG, Let Me Entertain You, Dreamers Ball), Body Language, and Delilah, but even Delilah has a bitchin guitar solo. I liked everything off of Made In Heaven. Innuendo is my favorite Queen album, but IWIA is my favorite Queen tune... |

'Fat Bottomed Girls', 'Tie Your Mother Down', 'We Will Rock You' (it bugs the shit out of me that it ends without having a proper ending!). 'Seven Seas of Rhye'. That's all I can think of for now, there are obviously more though! |
pittrek 01.02.2010 05:37 |
1) You Take My Breath Away - the studio version is terrible, I almost never make it through the intro 2) Get Down Make Love - cut the middle part and you have a "listenable" song 3) More Of That Jazz - cut the repeating songs and you have a listenable song 4) Play The Game - I always get headaches from the intro 5) Staying Power 6) Body Language 7) Action This Day 8) Cool Cat 9) Under Pressure - I seriously hate this song, I don't understand how it could be a hit - again, I like the live versions 10) A Hard Life - I almost fall asleep during this song 11) One Vision 12) One Year Of Love 13) Pain Is So Close To Pleasure 14) Friends Will Be Friends 15) Party 16) Khashoggi's ship 17) The Miracle 18) The Invisible Man 19) Rain Must Fall 20) My Baby Does Me |

"Cool Cat" is pretty awful. I couldn't exactly call "Misfire" good either. Hell, I'm having trouble even calling it music! |
prescott2811 01.02.2010 08:34 |
This one is tough considering Queen wrote so many great songs. Theres only a few I can think of that were poor in Queens history. I love every little in Queens music and writeing bit But I don't want to say which is poor and which is good. I love ALL their music. The nuimber 1 reason is because I'm a fan |

1) Body Language 2) Fun It 3) Let Me Entertain You 4) Figth From Inside 5) The Hitman 6) Jesus 7) Sleeping On The Sidewalk 8) Dragon Attack 9) Son And Daughter 10) More Of That Jazz |
Serry... 01.02.2010 11:59 |
She Makes Me, Sleeping On The Sidewalk, Some Day One Day (sorry, CBE). Oh yeah - and Coming Soon. Don't Try Suicide perhaps. My Baby Does Me is great track, go to blazes, you speed metal fans! |
Jimmy Dean 01.02.2010 17:23 |
Queen - Absolute Greatest Shit (and 20 tracks too!) 1) Loser In The End 2) Funny How Love Is (what was he thinking?... and to include it on the Black side as well!?) 3) She Makes Me 4) Good Company 5) Drowse 6) Fight From The Inside (I love this one... would have made a wonderul b-side, though) 7) More Of That Jazz 8) Fun It 9) Don't Try Suicide - again, a great b-side 10) Life Is Real (nice tribute, but a throwaway nonetheless) 11) Cool Cat (awful, awful and you can't blame Bowie for wanting to be left off this one) ....and for those citing that Hot Space was a shit album... the rest of the tracks barring the two mentioned above would have helped the album go from "Fair" to "Very Good" 12) Man On The Prowl 13) Machines - horrible, horrible, horrible track... obvious filler... 14) Pain Is So Close To Pleasure - garbage 15) Gimme The Prize - included as filler because it was from Highlander (great b-side though) 16) My Baby Does Me 17) Rain Must Fall 18) The Invisible Man - BAD BAD LYRICS to a very catchy tune / great b-side 19) The Hitman (great b-side) 20) Delilah (great b-side) Also note I did not include Flash, as it was a soundtrack album and an excellent one at that, nor did I include Cosmos Rocks since it's not Queen...just has the brand name stuck on the cover. |
Matias Merçeauroix 01.02.2010 19:19 |
QQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQ YOU ALL HAVE AIDS HIJOS DE MIL PUTA Weakest Queen song, IMO: Calling All Girls. |
Michael 01.02.2010 19:46 |
Oh, man, I am really enjoying some of these replies. I forgot about many of these songs - especially Delilah. That one is truly retched. And the intro to Play the Game is, indeed, headache-inducing. Good song, aweful intro. I'd like to add another one to the mix: Loser in the End. That one really messes up Queen II for me. The rest of the LP is at least tolerable, and in some parts magnificent. |
Michael 01.02.2010 19:48 |
Oh, yes, another comment that I really appreciate is the comment about Under Pressure. I, too, never understood why it became so popular - The only thing I can think of is because of the bass riff, which, let's face it, is catchy. But the vocals are annoying, the lyrics are beyond bad, and it always sounded to me like it was made up on the spot - which it was. |
Jimmy Dean 01.02.2010 20:03 |
Can't say I agree Under Pressure as a weak song... lyrics might be on the weak side... however, the musical composition itself as well as the band's performance (arguably Roger and John's best studio work) outshines the bulk of their catalogue. |
Michael 01.02.2010 21:24 |
Good point, Jimmy Dean. John and Roger do play quite well on Under Pressure. They essentially save the song. I don't think it's near their best performance, however. Check out Millionaire Waltz or Dragon Attack (John), or Now I'm Here (Roger). But I guess it's a matter of preference. All four men were/are great musicians. |
Matias Merçeauroix 01.02.2010 21:58 |

If You Can't Beat Them. Stinks. The only reason I'd put that below something like Pain Is So Close to Pleasure is because, as horrible as that track is, it at least takes a bit of doing to make something so ersatz and terrible. If You Can't Beat Them could've been done in five minutes with everyone drunk and blindfolded. |
Jimmy Dean 01.02.2010 23:57 |

If you want a song that showcases all their talents... especially John's basework... go for Bring Back That Leroy Brown. Sail Away Sweet Sister & Play The Game have some surprisingly good baselicks and great precision drumming from Roger. Other notable baselines from John... Killer Queen, Dancer, Breakthru, of course Dragon Attack as you've mentioned, AOBTD, You Don't Fool Me and A Kind Of Magic As for band performances - Hammer To Fall, One Vision, Millionaire Waltz & Now I'm Here (as you've mentioned), Innuendo and The Show Must Go On cover a lot of ground. |

Bo Rhap wrote: I cant believe the same guy who wrote Bohemian Rhapsody would go and write a song like Body Language.I can - in fact, to me, it makes perfect sense. He set out to write something pretty amazing with Bo Rhap, and he achieved that. He set out to write a lameass dance number with Body Language, and that's exactly what he wrote. If you look at it that way, he really was a genius at recording whatever he wanted. |

It's a suprise (to me) to see that a lot of people don't like Jesus. I always love this song, cause it was one of the first songs that shows what brian can do with his guitar. |

When I am listen to The Qwen, I always think that every song isn't actually so good. I tried to play some of them on my recorder, but I done it too good and embarass myself. My favourite Qwen is probably Tenement Funster becoz it has thise words that I like "Qwen Qwen always be the best, "Qwen Qwen will never be the best, Good luck 2000" Why casn't songs I am writing be that rubbish !! MercuryArts 02.02.2010 15:53 |
I Want To Break Free, top of my list every time! Live is much better but it still doesn't do a whole lot for me. Delilah Pain Is So Close To Pleasure Friends Will be Friends Don't Lose Your Head Breakthru, (Apart from the intro) Songs like Body Language, Cool Cat; even though they aren't any great musical accomplishments, I think Freddie's vocals are great & that is what makes the song for me. I could put Radio GaGa up there, but the lyrics are great & Freddie again lays down an amazing vocal which carries the song. |
Matias Merçeauroix 02.02.2010 17:50 |
