X-Factor duo Jedward are to release their version of the Queen and David Bowie classic ‘Under Pressure’.
Re-titled ‘Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby)’, the track features Vanilla Ice who also had a hit that sampled John Deacon’s now legendary bass line.

When Brian May was asked what he thought of Jedward's attempts at a Queen song on X Factor he said he didn't mind
and good luck to them. If he minded about them doing Under Pressure, I doubt Queen Productions would allow it to go ahead. It might bring the youngest generation into listening to Queen for the first time - who knows? Show them what
REAL music is!
I actually think this is hilarious, mainly because I don't hate Jedward, just think they're a joke... But they're in on it, so it's okay. The only thing that REALLY bothers me about them releasing this is that it is merged with 'Ice Ice, Baby'. THAT is tragic.
1. They REALLY, REALLY, REALLY CAN'T sing live......or at all for that matter.
2. Danceing whist singing probally isnt the best thing to do.
3. Their dress sense is disgusting.
4. They act so silly and immature and make themselfs look like idiots.
5. The Hair.*shudder*
6. Their 18 yet look about 13 or 14.....
but what I dont really understand is how they got permission to use under pressure..........

They simply have pay the record company whatever money it is the company wants, normally between 15
- 25 cents (us).
The companies get hundreds of these everyday, Brian, Roger and Bowie etc don't know everytime SOMEONE covers a song.
Obviously the record companies would refuse if a cover of AOBTD was to be used as a seal beating anthem because it could cause bad press, but apart from that there are very few restrictions if you pay the proper royalties.
Even if you get refused permission to use the original song in a movie soundtrack you can still use a cover version.
Brian, Roger, Bowie and Deacon all have people paid to sort through these, and work for their best intrests, none of them would know every cover, unless of course they go to their people and say, don't let jedward cover any queen songs the companies going to let them to get money.
Queen, Freddie, Brian and Roger recorded some covers as well. Nobody complained about that except Yoko Ono who didn't want God on the Brixton CD. She didn't mind Roger's version of Working Class Hero.
I LOVE the fact that when I put rude comments about 'Jedward' on youtube that all these little Jedward fans could'nt hack it and got serisouly offenened! Oooo arnt i rude xD
I have revised my opinion, having watched Jedward on Youtube. They sounded remarkably like Queen, Gosh, I thought,
these younsters must be really talented afterall, just 18 and they sound just like the real Queen rock group........
Then I watched them sing something else and thought oh,dear....... They can't dance, they can't sing, they're not
entertaining.......... and someone's obviously forgotten to put the backing tape on. Oh well, they'll be making a bit of money before they run out of luck and have to get aproper job.

THAT was because Brian changed a few words for the live cover. For that, you absolutely need the permission of the original author or their appropriate estate(s) before you can release that, due to the fact that the cover artist would have to legally be credited as well on their version.
It was mentioned on the liner notes that Brian wrote to Yoko to seek permission to include the changed lyrics in his version, but she never replied (in time anyways), so they had to cut it out in the end product.
