link Classic Rock can confirm that Paul Rodgers was invited to be Aerosmith’s new frontman. This happened at the Classic Rock Roll Of Honour in London last November, when Aerosmith’s troubles with singer Steven Tyler were just beginning to surface. The awards were a star-studded affair. Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry and Rodgers were among the multitude of high-profile rockers in attendance. During a break in the ceremony Perry approached Scott Rowley, Classic Rock’s Editor In Chief, and asked him: “Can you introduce me to Paul Rodgers?” Amazingly, Perry had never met the Free/Bad Company/The Firm/Queen + Paul Rodgers frontman before. Rowley guided Perry to Rodgers’ table and the two stars engaged in conversation while Rowley chatted to Rodgers’ wife, Cynthia. However, Classic Rock’s Jerry Ewing, who was sitting at the table, overheard Perry make a direct approach to Rodgers about replacing Tyler in Aerosmith. Ewing recalls: “Basically Scott came over with Joe Perry who had asked to be introduced to Paul. After an initial introduction Perry started saying how Rodgers was his second-favourite vocalist of all time. “Rodgers typically asked who Perry’s favourite was, and Perry said: ‘The lead singer of Aerosmith.’ Cue some embarrassed laughter. “The talk then moved on to what Perry was doing and he said that he was doing the Joe Perry Project and they were looking to come over here and tour, at which point Rodgers mooted the idea of them supporting Bad Company on their just-announced shows. “The next thing, Perry is starting to tell Rodgers that they have problems with Tyler and that they intend to carry on regardless – and how great it would be if Rodgers took the slot, and would he be interested in trying out? “If I remember correctly there were the usual ‘how flattering’ platitudes but no real commitment, as you’d expect, nor refusal.” Classic Rock knows of two more major names who have been approached to sing for Aerosmith. We’ll be revealing another of those names on link tomorrow (Thursday, January 28), with the final one to follow on Friday. So stay tuned to the Classic Rock website. The March issue of Classic Rock, which goes on sale next Wednesday, February 3, features Joe Perry on the cover and contains more exclusive Aero-revelations. |

Every song would have OOOH YEAH at the start. Annoying blues/saxophone-esque trills at the end of each verse. And a deliberately recorded "Ha ha ha" at the end to make people think that the song was the result of an amicable jam. |

That made me completely fall off the stage (backwards). I've knocked myself silly and must go on a drinking binge. |

Oh Christ. If Steve isn't well enough to sing on tour, then I won't be buying tickets, especially if Paul Rodgers takes over. It's bad enough he can't sing Queen songs properly, but I don;t want to hear him fuck up Aerosmith songs as well. I suspect he will say no for fear of becoming known as "the worlds greatest stand-in"! |

paul will never scream or dance like steve and that's what always make aerosmith so great... so I would prefer they replace steve with liv tyler cause if she can 't sing, at least she will be good to the eyes |

I want to go to an Aerosmith concert, But with the original setting, However, I think Paul can do a pretty good job, He has a great voice, Even live.. |

Or maybe, if Mr Tyler's mum is still alive, she'll go to one of the concerts and Joe will dedicate 'Dude Looks Like a Lady' to her. |

Paul Rodgers is the only person other than Steven Tyler I can see fronting Aerosmith - not permanently of course. They both have blues influence in their singing, one having less(Tyler), one more(Rodgers). I'm pretty sure this is gonna happen. |

I love the fact the original poster calls Aerosmith Aeroshite when he spunks over the word 'Kiss' when at the end of the day all anyone actually knows about Kiss is that its just a bunch of grown 'men' that wear makeup. Unbelievable. |

Aerosmith were probably the greatest rock band around, but without Steven Tyler that's it game over. Nobody can take over that role, much the same as no-one takes Freddies place in Queen. Cosmos Rocks is without doubt the worst Queen album in the catalogue & never should have been recorded. Kiss are ok |
Oberon 06.02.2010 16:02 |
I actually thought Q+PR were ok. I enjoyed the live shows and the album, although I agree it's not on a par with many of Queen's "real" albums. I don't think it "should never have been recorded". I don't consider it a Queen album. I can appreciate the different approach Paul took to the Queen material on the tours, but I can't quite see the same thing working with Aerosmith's songs. Aerosmith are rawer than Queen or PR. Couldn't see that working. But then, I probably thought the same before QPR got together |

Brilliant publicity stunt. The apparent Tom Jones and Paul Rodgers offers probably didn't even happen. By keeping the band in the news like this for the past few months, the next world tour will be a smash. Someone give their publicist a bonus. |
BradJarre 01.03.2010 09:19 |
Tom Jones asked for Aerosmith? That never worked out.. I saw the man live in october last year, And he has a great voice and is quite charismatic, But for Aerosmith its a no go. |

God forbid Queen were an average band and they had to rely on their PR/Marketing teams to sell records. It sometimes seems like Queen has the crappiest management ever. Numbers don't lie, you say? It doesn't take much skill to sell a product THAT good. |

ok Skip, i wont attack you for the article...but i WILL attack you for the subject title...as it's clear as day you don't like Aerosmith.....and i can't see why... Aerosmith are a great Rock n roll band...in the truest sense of the word....their music rocks, and they have lived real rock n roll lifestyles..... Paul Rodgers would have dragged an interesting rock band story into mediocrity and tedium...in much the same way he did with Queen. |

Paul Rodgers would have dragged an interesting rock band story into mediocrity and tedium...in much the same way he did with Queen. They're a shitty band. Saw them twice in concert and Steven Tyler can't sing. His baboon noises are beyond sickening. They were once a rock band then they turned into a really shitty pop band. The only good lps they released were "Get Your Wings" and "Toys In The Attic". Every other lp contains 90% filler. They're a band where the band members can't stand the lead singer and it shows (Joe Perry and Brad Whitford, in particular, can't stand him). As far as Paul Rodgers is concerned, he didn't drag Queen down. Queen were already dead after Freddie died. If anything he gave people like me who didn't have the chance to see Queen in concert the chance to see Brian May and Roger Taylor in concert playing Queen songs. I had a great time and that's all that matters. |

Okay, so this guy was invited to sing with Deep Purple twice and he turned them down on both counts. He was invited to sing with The Doors after Jim Morrisson's demise and he turned them down as well. He was invited to sing with Aerosmith (which may or may not have been a publicity stunt). He's been in Free, Bad Company, The Firm. He has a somewhat successful solo-career AND he's the only man who got Brian May and Roger Taylor to tour under the Queen name. And people still have the nerve to say he's a shitty singer?! For fuck's sake - the man is a force of nature! V. |

And I was one of the people that was happy Q+PR was taking place when we first found out. Because the first performances with him were new and had some energy to them. That 46664 gig where he comes out swinging at the start of TYMD told me that they were headed in a good direction. If I'd known the collaboration would wind up the way it did, I would've been trolling against it from the start! |

Paul Rodgers: Good singing The Cosmos Rocks songs. Great singing Free/Bad Company songs. Mostly atrocious singing Queen songs. Wrong voice, wrong style, horrible improv. God bless him for trying, but he was the wrong choice imo. |

Holly2003 wrote: Mostly atrocious singing Queen songs. Wrong voice, wrong style, horrible improv. I agree to an extent. I think he did some Queen songs justice, and brought others to new and fresh levels. But some were just there because they were hits and they didn't match Paul's style. Even if the entire show sucked, his last line of Bohemian Rhapsody forgives everything. It treaded new ground and hit incredible heights while being tasteful and completely respectful to the original. I couldn't imagine any other singer managing that without looking like a pompous ass. |
