Hi Queen Fans, To begin with, I don’t want to hear anyone complain about how this post does not belong in the “General Section.” Indeed, it does. These types of posts are important, since both Lady Gaga and Adam Lambert mention Freddie Mercury and Queen as important influences. Intelligent Queen fans should be interested in analyzing how their music continues to impact modern music. I was just wondering about what you think about Lady Gaga. I bought her first album right after it came out, and I thought that it was fun in a way that is unusual nowadays. She kind of reminded me of Cyndi Lauper back in the 1980s, although I did not think that her songs were as strong as what you hear on the “She’s So Unusual” album, which in my opinion is one of the best albums of the 1980s. I thought that is was very refreshing to see someone who was so original both in sound and in the way she dresses. I wish that there were a lot more pop stars who would stimulate the imagination in the way that she does. At the same time, I wish that her songs were a little better. I mean, “Poker Face” is very repetitive in a way that makes you lose interest after a minute or so. I really liked the song “Let’s Dance,” which I thought was the best thing on her debut album. Some of the other songs also seemed to suffer from excessive repetition though. "Love Game" is a good example. Maybe what she needs is a songwriter to write some fantastic songs that can compliment the ones she writes herself. |

"I thought that is was very refreshing to see someone who was so original both in sound and in the way she dresses. " ORIGINAL? Soundwise: no, generic computer-generated pop songs about sex has been out since the 90's. The way she dresses: You mean, how she just rips off 1970's glam? Real original, sure, how about ripping off Bowie with that lightning bolt? "I wish that there were a lot more pop stars who would stimulate the imagination in the way that she does." Stimulate? The way that she does what? Rips off David Bowie? Hell, even her name is taken from Queen, so I'm assuming you just mean you wish the 70's were buried under the pile of feces known as "modern music." "I really liked the song “Let’s Dance,” which I thought was the best thing on her debut album." I'm going out on a limb and assuming you mean "Just Dance" her awful rip-off the Bowie song "Let's Dance" unless you're honest, which means she literally TOOK THE TITLE STRAIGHT FROM BOWIE, and on top of that made a song about the SAME GOD DAMN THING SHE ALREADY WROTE ABOUT. Fact: She's a useless, trashy, slag with no talent whatsoever. Nothing is even remotely original about her, and you're a cunt for even bringing her up. |

Personally, I love her! Dance music isn't something I generally go out of my way to listen to (Hell, I used to like Kylie when she was with SAW, but can't stand the rubbish she does now!), but when I first saw the video for "Just Dance", I heard that 'singing voice' near the end and thought "wow, that's a wasted voice". Thakfully she uses it a bot more now, especially when she does her live acoustic numbers sat at the piano. She's also completely bonkers! :) |

At least Lady gaga is better than brittany spears, but should never be mentioned in the same breath as blondie or the great carole king. At least she could play the piano, and isn't half bad looking, though her looks are a bit overated. |

She makes some great songs compared to some of the other sh*t that is charting nowdays. Take what you can get is what I say. ...Or just stay with the music of the glory days. |

It's just a bloody Disco record. The outrageous costumes, dancers, sexuality, fake synth beats... I'd rather listen to Lady Gaga than 90% else of what's out there. I can't stand the "Whitney / Beyonce" school of wailing away like a banshee over an overwrought love song, nor all the wannabe gangstas mush-mouthing through another boats n hoes epic. |

I like her, because I find her challenging. All her low information signals are things that are reflexively associated with things that are not artistically substantial: sex, synth pop, simplistic lyrics, aggressive image management. Yet running alongside that is a person who has paid dues, writes her own music, does multiple arrangements, genuinely has a voice, and is capable of material like 'Speechless'. Personally I think she's got all the raw ingredients to be a force. She's creative, driven, talented, absolutely fearless and most importantly, she knows precisely what she's good at. Time will tell. |
