You may or may not know of the band Winger; they were first around in the late 80's and labelled very much as a 'hair' band like Poison, Motley Crue etc.. however their music was far more sophisticated than that, and their latest albums since reforming in 2006/07 are more akin to Dream Theater than Bon Jovi.
Anyway, to my point;
In a recentish issue of 'Rhythm' magazine, their drummer Rod Morgenstein did a small piece about We Will Rock You (the song, not the musical), and stated that he remembered how fantastic Queen sounded and were such a great live four piece they were when Winger supported Queen on the Magic tour.
Now, I'm sure that Winger's debut album didn't come out until 1988, two years after the Magic Tour. In addition, I've never heard of them as support, and sites such as queenconcerts.com have no mention of them when I do a search.
Could Rod be mistaken, and did one of his earlier bands support Queen in 1986? If so, do we know who it was? Or is he simply imagining the whole thing, and neither he or Winger have ever been anywhere near Queen??
(ps - on a related point, the reason I bought Winger's second album in 1990 was due to Kip Winger (vocalist and bassist) stating in an interview that Queen were his favourite band, and The Prophets Song his favourite track!!)
Ahhh. I did some poking around. Apparrently another band he was in opened for Queen. Zeno. They were a German band so they probably were on the bill at a German concert.
I never heard of them either, but here's what I found...
Sorry for spamming this thread... but I found a personal Winger / Queen connection...
Sometime in the early 90s I bought a ticket to see a hard rock mini festival in Toronto that had Whitesnake (with Steve Vai), Kiss, Bad Company (with Paul Rodgers) and Slaughter on the bill.
At the last minute Bad Company backed out and Winger was brought in as the replacement.
So there's the only connection I can think of. Paul Rodgers cancelled and Winger came in!
Sorry, best I got. Most memorable from that show was how badly Kiss dissed David Coverdale during their show and how a third of the audience got up and left before Whitesnake came on.

I doubt Winger supported Queen, they came afterwards.
I saw Winger twice opening for Kiss and Kip Winger was Alice Cooper's bass player on another tour I saw. Good band at the time!
Kip Winger played with Alice Cooper in 1986-1987. Didn't he write Gail?

That's correct. The story goes KISS had a Toronto show the same week as Whitesnake. Both shows had some tickets
left unsold so the promoter decided to put the two concerts together. Whitesnake (who must have sold a few more tickets to their show) went on last. David Coversong demanded that KISS couldn't use any pyro. Paul Stanley and David Coversong almost got into an altercation backstage (the roadies kept them apart). During KISS' show Paul Stanley
told the crowd that David Coversong wouldn't let KISS use their pyro. The audience showed their disapproval. KISS
went on to steal the show. After KISS finished many people left. Some of the people who did stay boo'ed Whitesnake during their set.
I guess Paul Stanley and David Coversong are on speaking terms. They had lunch together sometime last year.
I did not hear anything about Bad Company being part of that bill. Positive about that?
You know, now that you mention it, it was either Bad Company or Bad English....
I was at that show. Pretty wild. When googling to find more info I read a review that Whitesnake was booed off the stage, not true. As I recall there was some booing and some trash talk back from Coverdale but they played a full set that was mostly successful, there were just a lot of empty seats after Kiss.

Thanks for looking all this up.
BTW: Faster Pussycat SUCKED. :)
No problem.
I agree. FP sucked. They opened for KISS on the "Revenge" arena tour. They came out looking like Marilyn Manson.
I couldn't wait for them to get off of the stage.
