Queen are brilliant and performing to their best and the crowd are pretty unresponsive like they dont really want to be there and dont really get excited that much until Bohemian rhapsody and even then the enthusiam fizzles out quickly if i paid money to go and see queen i would be up there dancing and singing along as freddie said " if you guys wanna shift your asses its ok with us"!!!!! |
Voice of Reason 2018 13.01.2010 09:18 |
The first time I saw it I couldn't believe Freddie said 'you don't know it' during Love of my Life! |
Wiley 13.01.2010 09:47 |
I always though that the "you don't know it" line was an ad lib by Freddie, as the lyrics right before it say "You don't know what it means to me..." Everybody else seems to think it's Freddie's comment in regard of the audience not singing along. |
plumrach 13.01.2010 10:04 |
i think it was aimed at the crowd as he says "you dont know it huh" |
The Real Wizard 13.01.2010 11:54 |
I think it was a bit of both. Typical 'tongue in cheek' Freddie. |

When I was listening to the narrative by Brian and Roger on the DVD. Brian has said that what the band didn't know was the crowd at the venue were told that they couldn't stand up and also dance about and I think that pissed off the crowd a bit.. It has also been quoted that the crew filming the show had pissed off Freddie and the rest of band and Freddie getting his own back on the second night came out in shorts which means that it screwed up the continual to make it look as if it was all one show. |

i was at that show. the thing is... AOBTD, draw in a lot of new fans ( take the word " FANS " on a liter side here...héhéhé...) that for most of them, never heard them live, even if KILLER was there as a reference. i guess they had nobody to tell them how a Queen show commanded their participation ? you can hear a part of the crowd sing ( i know i was ). the newbies knew the old hits...thanks to radio mostly ? |

Great concert and DVD, but like you said the crowd was told by security that they had to remain calm and seated in their seats. There would be no getting over excited. Not much fun for concert goers. |

That can't be true, Mrs. Bad Guy. You mean to tell me that concertgoers from Canada actually listen to the authorities? I guess we need to show them how to sneak in weed and booze. No wonder their big stars are Celine Dion, Bryan Adams, and Rush. Give me The Stones, a hooch, and a pint of Tanqueray and I'll show you one bad-ass show!!! |

I recently got this DVD. I'd rate it slightly higher than Live at the Bowl! It's their best live-to-video/DVD concert in my opinion. |

I had the DVD, then I bought the Bluray so if anyone needs the DVD they can have my copy. PM me |

Candian audiences are notoriously laid back. It freaks artists out sometimes, but it has nothing to do with how much fun is being had. I can't watch a rock concert sitting down, but I'll be damned if I'm going to be spending much time using my own voice to scream over the voices and music of the people I've paid to hear and see. I think it was a number of things with the audience on this DVD (which I have on Blu-ray...love love love). The Canadian thing, plus I read that the original mix on We Will Rock You had the audience mixed low which started a bit of a meme for this crowd being listless, the front rows' awareness of the cameras perhaps, the mild agression of the band because of the backstage stuff, and the band's expectations after just coming back from South America and having the audience singing every word along with them. Billy Bob Thornton and his band actually had to leave the country last year when he called Canadian audiences 'mashed potatoes with no gravy' on a live CBC Radio One show broadcast across North America. People came down on him so hard him they cancelled the remaining dates and went home pretending to be sick. The video made it's way around extensively back then, but if you haven't seen/heard it and want to see Billy Bob Thornton being a stunning and hilariously lame douche bag just because the interviewer mentioned his acting career in the intro (something he brings up himself all the time in interviews!) you must check this out. If you do get to the end of it, be sure to check out the video response from Radio Three. Way funny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJWS6qyy7bw&feature=fvste3 |

There would be no getting over excited. Not much fun for concert goers. I was at a Meat Loaf concert in Ontario in the late 80's, and the promoter came out and said wihout a hint of irony "Once again, to repeat, I reiterate' that we had to stay calm and seated. We got triple told in an absurd redundancy that I still share with people today as a particularly silly bungling of the English language. In 'Rock Montreal' era concerts in my city we could still get there early for the privilege of watching concerts from the floor where you were happily pushed and jostled as part of the surge crushing up towards the stage. Now, the floor is filled with rows of plastic chairs firmly stiched together with plastic ties and security to make sure it stays that way. Blah. |
