probably because when i got the live aid dvd i only watched queen on it but i was bored yesterday and saw the ending where everybody is singing and he is having so much fun with all the others and when he gets to sing near the microphone his voice is the one you can hear most, bono gives him a bit of funny look though I could see Roger in there but not brian or john |

, Funny you should mention that Bono chap, because ever since the Live Aid 10 th anniversary t.v. broadcast i have believed that Bono is a little jealous of freddie and the boys, When ,inevitably, the subject of Queen being the highlight of the day came up, universally, everyone was unequivocal in their praise of Queen, but then Bono and the Edge came on camera and all Bono had to say was that backstage, when Freddie was around, 'we had to keep our backs to the wall , FNAAR, FNAAR.' After this cheap shot i formed the opinion that, recalling U2's performance when Bono made that clumsy attempt to get that girl from the front and embrace her, thought that they had given the performance of the day in front of the world, only for Queen to come on and completely blow them away, hence no headlines and so a mixture of jealousy and frustration which perhaps explains his 'funny look' in the finale. Remember, when the subject of Live Aid is ever broached, Queen always get mentioned. No one else. I recall the main national news on the day of Live 8 and the newscaster, James Burke ? saying, as regards the performances,' As yet no one able to do what a little man with a moustache managed to do in 1985 , steal the show' Master Marathon Runner. |

Funny how subjective impressions are. I always thought Freddie looked a little uncomfortable in the mass of people at the end- far less in his element. Kind of like he didn't quite want to be there. And wasn't the Bono thing with the girl in the front row to save her from being crushed? I seem to recall that he noticed she was in distress, tried to get security to notice her, and failing that went down himself? Or just went down to comfort her after? |
Ziggy_SD 11.01.2010 09:01 |
Yeah, I also thought Freddie looked a bit nervous during that final lineup. Probably found himself out of his comfort zone with so many other stars and performers. |
Darren1977 11.01.2010 09:19 |
Fuck Bono and his preaching |
FlorianS 11.01.2010 09:25 |
Freddie did obviously not know the lytrics of do they know it's christmas...maybe that's one reason why he seemed to feel uncomfortable...performing to a song you cannot sing... |
GratefulFan 11.01.2010 09:46 |
Here's a tiny blurb about the girl that was getting crushed during the U2 set: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/109444/How-U2-Bono-saved-me.html And you can see from the footage that Bono starts to focus on trying to get the attention of ushers just after 6:15 into their performance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHnXOSxka1Q#t=6m15s |

It's difficult to make out but at around 6:30 you can see him mouthing "oh boy I'm going to look so great when I save this next life. I Maybe my face will be on the front of Time magazine". |

Brian is there in his sleeveless T-shirt (just like few mins before during ITTWWC) |

Nah sorry, but she did'nt look too distressed to me , not to any degree that the half dozen safety stewards at hand could.nt of dealt with . Seemed to me Bono hoped to get a nomination for Pope with this pre conceived crap. Master Marathon Runner. |
plumrach 11.01.2010 11:15 |
she looked keen enough to gett into bono's arms, he probably created it himself but urging the crowd forwards |

I actually used to like U2 during their Unfogetable Fire period and then Bono dissapeared up his own Rectum and started to preach to the masses!!!!!!!! That was the great thing about Queen they never tried to give us a political lesson, just a music lesson !!! |
ilikefreddyguy 11.01.2010 14:48 |
I DOUBT Freddie was nervous. I mean, if he was nervous he wouldn't be trying to squeeze in to get the mic. Oh, and yes, fuck Bono. |
vadenuez 11.01.2010 15:47 |
Nonsense. Freddie looked funny simply cause he had his nostrils clogged after all the backstage fun. |
EnglanE 11.01.2010 16:00 |
I hate to sound like a TOTAL newbie, but is it just me or does Freddie seem to cry (or at least start to cry/try not to cry, heh) when he and Brian performed 'Is This The World We Created'? |
Russian Headlong 11.01.2010 20:08 |
Never liked U2, a political band. I remember Bono leading the slagging off of Queen for playing Sun City. Ok, maybe that was a mistake but who needs. Some people find Sunday Bloody Sunday offensive. |
plumrach 12.01.2010 03:27 |
I think you are right he does appear to be a little choked up whilst singing |
flash00. 12.01.2010 05:23 |
A few of us actualy thought the same thing i.e Bono looking jealous of freddie at the end of Live-Aid singalong, and i agree Bono and the boys were quite bitchy about freddie on the Live-Aid dvd, i read somewhere freddie did not like Bono or U2 for being far to political Pope Bono should stick to kissing george bush's ass and giving him i-pods.. |
gooddrills 12.01.2010 06:56 |
Bono is a self righteous prick with an over inflated ego who likes the sound of his own voice far too fucking much. Saying that U2 have produced some decent songs in their time, Bono just needs to leave the politics to the politicians |
plumrach 12.01.2010 09:53 |
Also who is that woman who is singing very loudly just before the freddie bit? |
Holly2003 12.01.2010 11:31 |
Music, politics, & social issues have always been intertwined and probably always will be. I have no problem with that. I do have a problem with U2's musical output, which has been weak since Zooropa. Have they done anything remotely interesting since then? |
steven 35638 12.01.2010 17:02 |
Freddie Mercury doesn't look nervous. I think some of you guys are being silly. Regarding U2 and Bono -- bleh -- good music, but I'm a little skeptical of the political crap. But I'm not in any position to make my mind up about them. |

Another thing that made me chuckle just before the bono/freddie bit, geldof takes the mic away from bono and bono is left looking at geldof like he is the playground bully who has taken his favorite toy and then bono sort of stands there not really knowing what to do |
freddiefan91 15.01.2010 03:42 |
Bono is a bit of prat is'nt he Freddie is great |

Once freddie got to sing near the mic he looked rather pleased with himself I cant stop watching that bit now, it just makes me laugh at his reactiona afterwards |

All the others were jealous that Queen were the best on the day |
Kevin Hughes 01.02.2010 18:00 |
I was fortunate to have attended Live Aid, I was also down at the front for the whole concert.Bono certainly messed up U2's set by ending up taking too long to get someone out of the audience for him to give a false, caring hug for a woman from the audience, I was around 5 people back from the front, nobody got crushed at any part of the concert, you can see the panic In his face that he knows he Is taking too long to get someone/ anyone out of the audience, thats why he messed up the ending of their set by just walking off stage as the band played/ jammed on before their 18 minutes on stage was up.U2 also did not hit the people watching from the stands like Queen did,for U2 you can see on the dvd In shots of the audience that they are sat down, they are all on their feet when Queen performed.Regarding Do they know Its Xmas, when the song started, Freddie was on the side of the stage, too me, he must have thought to himself " What am I doing here on the side?, Ive been the fucking star of the show so I deserve to be In the middle" and thats what happened, Freddie dissapeared, worked his way behind the front singers to take up his deserved place centre stage! |
plumrach 02.02.2010 03:32 |
To Kevin Hughes I agree with everything you say there It was funny that freddie was the other side of the piano and the next thing he was right next to Bono and he got his moment and he looked quite pleased with himself after that and rightly so as well _____________________________________________________________________________________ An Interview? Oh dont be ridiculous |
Kevin Hughes 04.02.2010 05:00 |
Yeah Freddie started the song off stood next to the guys from Spandau ballet, he was friendly with Tony Hadley, who Is a Queen fan and who performed Jailhouse Rock with Queen just a few months before Live Aid when Queen played In New Zealand. |

Yeah he deserved to be center stage and meanwhile Bono casts him a look like some interloper. They should have given over the mic to Freddie - obviously the strongest singer - what a way that would have been to finish off the event. I wonder if the principals involved don't look back at the same tape and sense a missed opportunity in that. |
i-Fred 12.07.2011 18:34 |
Still, at the end of the day, its Queen moment there that stand's out. And for all those who say U2 were just starting out in which Queen had X amounts of years a head of them, why is it when U2 were at Live 8... They STILL didnt even come close to Queen's Live Aid gig. |

Freddie nervous?? On stage??? Now THAT is funny. :) And Bono is a 110% asshole. |
Dusta 13.07.2011 20:38 |
I thought Freddie looked quite pleased with himself in that bit, though I struggle to hear his voice at all. |
