I just emailed Brian May (hopefully he'll get it) about whether or not I can have permission to use a couple of Queen songs in a non-profit video that the local library is going to make in order to get kids more interested in using the library. For those who have emailed him before, how long does it usually take for him to reply? |
ilikefreddyguy 05.01.2010 12:15 |
I mailed him on Dec. 29, 2009 about if I can use the OWL even though I'm almost legally blind in one eye. and I still have yet to get a reply. I don't think he replies to them all, of course. Then again, maybe my subject shouldn't have been "FUCKING HEY HEY HEY YOU OLD BASTARD" |
pittrek 05.01.2010 12:22 |
I've sent a couple of e-mails during the years to his mail address and never got any answer |
john bodega 05.01.2010 12:27 |
I honestly think it's just dumb luck as to whether or not he answers. I've mailed him once or twice over the years, the only one he's answered was about a 12 string RS. Short e-mail, short and friendly answer! |
Sebastian 05.01.2010 12:36 |
He usually replies a couple of days later, or never. |
philip storey 05.01.2010 13:00 |
I think you stand a better chance of getting a reply with a good old fashioned letter. I wrote to him once and got a lovely reply, which i treasure. On the other hand i wrote to Roger and didn't get didlly squat ! |
GratefulFan 05.01.2010 13:18 |
I got a reply in a week, and the subject was stereo photo stuff. Wasn't expecting it, and it still makes me happy many months later. :) |

Sebastian wrote: He usually replies a couple of days later, or never. It's pretty amazing the volume he does manage to reply to, as indicated anecdotally and through the letters section. We're a pretty lucky bunch of fans. |

You may get on a bit quicker if you contact Jacky at the Fan Club. I got a reply within a day or so even after I had mailed BM.com and I find she is a little more on the ball than Jen.(maybe less snowed under??) I asked whether it was ok to use a selection of Queen solo's that I had recorded myself to highlight the Adeson pickups (this was before BM camp and Guyton started using them so it could have been seen then as using his stuff to sell) a competitors products? He sent me a very nice letter. He also commented very positively recently on my version of All Dead All Dead !! |
mooghead 05.01.2010 13:31 |
I wrote to Jackie once asking for autographs but was told 'they're too busy' and 'get lost' (or slightly more polite words to that effect) As far as using Queen music for what the original poster wants you may better better off contacting the 'company' |
QUEENexpert 05.01.2010 14:22 |
i sent him a few messages like a few months ago and haven't heard back. he's busy. don't expect to get a reply. if you're lucky then you might get one. |
Froz1 05.01.2010 15:30 |
I had a next day reply from him regarding stereo photography, after the lecture he did at Bradford, guess I just got lucky or he replied quickly because it wasn't anything to do with Queen. |
Bo Rhap 05.01.2010 16:11 |
He's never replied to the two i've sent. I'm just not lucky enough. |
coops 05.01.2010 20:44 |
Got mine within 48 hours. However, I have a feeling someone else screens his emails and passes along the ones he may wish to see. Just a hunch. |
e-man 06.01.2010 02:38 |
I got a reply after less than an hour. pure luck I guess |
YourValentine 06.01.2010 03:24 |
Brian May cannot give you permission to use Queen music, therefore he might not answer your email. Try Phil Symes, his email address is on BM.com (business contact). He is probably not the right person to ask but he is very helpful and can direct you to the correct address - EMI publishing or something. As to the question about the OWL: no, you cannot see the stereo effect if one of your eyes does not see much, sorry. |
Serry... 06.01.2010 04:54 |
He replied to me four times and it was really fast. |
Bo Rhap 06.01.2010 05:12 |
I see that Brian is off on a rant again. This time quite rightly so. link He is asking folks to reply. So you might get an answer in this one. |
rocking-granny 06.01.2010 09:25 |

Count me as one of the "never" people. I've written twice to "him," I'd never expected to hear from him, though. Although once or twice I've addressed Jen directly, and she always answered quickly; within 24 hours. Does that count? [/img] |
Rubbersuit 06.01.2010 11:48 |
I've written him twice to ask for a ticket refund on WWRY because it sucked and he never replied. I figure the cheque got lost in the mail. [/img] |
Holly2003 06.01.2010 12:05 |
I've been sending him naked pictures of myself for years, one a month, every month. Not a single reply. Roger, however, has been pestering me with letters and phonecalls, the slut. |
Mayday999 06.01.2010 12:28 |
I think it depends on if he is interested to reply. Usually it doesn't take very long. Actually next day. Only my experience. As far as I know he receives appr. 800 e-mails per day from around the world. |

I wrote him a letter back in the early '90's about a custom guitar (a Red Special replica) that I was having made and sent him some pictures of it. I got a wonderful letter back from him full of well wishes and encouragement which I still have to this day but as I since realised since Back To The Light came out, it's not his signature?? Fucker!! |

If you want him to reply, ask him a very stupid question. He seems to be afraid of interesting ones. |

I actually felt kinda bad reading his SoapBox earlier. I know you should read his entries in chronological order, but today i read going down the page and couldn't help laughing at the "GOOD NEWS FOR DANCING BEARS" headline straight after the two condolences for Jim and Shirley. It was like "Very sad news... Buuuuut...." Bad person. |
john bodega 07.01.2010 10:31 |
I'm going to ask him to appear on Buzzcocks, I have $50 that says he'll make it to ten minutes through the show. My nephew says he won't. |
PauloPanucci 07.01.2010 11:36 |
once, i wrote an email to him, and he reply for me, but not in his soapbox.... usually, takes one week for reply |

beautifulsoup 11.01.2010 20:44 |
All righty, then: I've just e-mailed him an honest couple of questions I've had lately about free viewing. I'm really interested in the answers; but on the other hand, I'll laugh out loud if he actually replies. |
4 x Vision 12.01.2010 14:52 |
I waited months for a Queen ANATO Ltd Edition T Shirt from there website years ago from QOL and when it still hadn't came, even though I was charged, I wrote to him saying it was disgraceful and as one of the company heads he should get it sorted. (Bit anal... but I was pissed off it never came for xmas). He actually replied saying "Sorry, I'll def look into it, Bri". Shocked me. I deleted it as well by mistake when changing to outlook... raging. Still never got T Shirt too lol... or refund. GOOD GUITAR PLAYING LYING SCUMBAG. He also emailed me back when i told him about stereoscope viewer scene in Badlands movie. I told him to use it is a link to show how good the pics good be. In the film Sissy Spacek looks through an antique one as it does look amazingly 3D. He told me... "fuck the stereoscope... fuck the movie... fuck you. Luv, Bri".... (Nah, he never replied. Jen did). True stories. Not the most interesting tho... but proves he does reply to various types of email. VB9 |
