Interesting post, thank you very much! Strange to see that it took them so long to get to Italy. I always thought, that they have not done too much touring, some tours were really short. |

"First visit to what at the time was Yugoslavia." I really doubt that. |

Can you tell me why? |
Rubbersuit 05.01.2010 17:07 |
Thanks for putting this together. I was thinking the other day that Queen had it relatively easy for touring compared to what top bands go through today. Their most extensive tour was 81 concerts with many in the 60-70 range. That's a lot, but top bands now perform a lot more. The Magic tour was just a quick jaunt through Europe, which is unusual considering how much the stage and lighting must have cost to put together (at the time it was the biggest and best). Some comparison... U2 360 tour = 80 shows + more shows coming in 2010 U2 Vertigo tour = 132 shows Rolling Stones Bigger Bang tour = 147 shows Coldplay Viva La Vida tour = 172 shows Bon Jovi Lost Highway tour = 113 shows |
maxpower 05.01.2010 18:33 |
yes but ref the above how many years do bands like U2, The Stones & Jovi tour one album 2 - 3 years? Metallica's Black album covered 241 shows from 91-93 again one album, so Queen did a hell of a lot considering writing & recording |
Sebastian 05.01.2010 19:03 |
A lot of it has to do with the fact that in the 70's a tour was basically made to promote the album as the bands lived off vinyl sales. Nowadays, loads of people download or copy the records, and the actual source of income are the tours. By the way, Jazz (a '78 album) tour had 78 concerts. Nice! |

World Slavery Tour by Iron Maiden 1984 / 1985 193 gigs in 331 days But also: Brian May did 94 concerts for Back to the Light between 1.11.1992 and 10.12.1992. He played in Germany, Canada, US, Japan, Ireland, Israel, Switzerland, Hungary, Netherlands, Spain, France, Germany, Greece, Turkey, Italy, Belgium, Brasil, Urugay, Chile. So it seems as if this was his busiest tour so far. |

Do they still play Beth? |
FlorianS 06.01.2010 05:45 |
No, as Peter Criss is not in Kiss anymore they dropped Beth a while ago. But I think it could be possible that they will play it again, as Eric Singer is also singing other Criss songs like noting to loose and black diamond. |
Sebastian 06.01.2010 10:51 |
IMO, Eric doesn't honour his surname. |
Rubbersuit 06.01.2010 11:08 |
Since this has turned into a Kiss topic.... you should give the new Ace Frehley CD a spin. It's actually pretty good. He's listened to the fans that tell him that his 70s Kiss solo LP was his best and gone back to that style (for the most part, there's still a few duds on this one). |
Sebastian 06.01.2010 12:19 |
Does he sing in his solo album? 'Cause frankly, Paul and Gene are great singers; Eric Carr (RIP) was fantastic, and Peter's at least good. But Ace... he's a fine guitarist. |
Rubbersuit 06.01.2010 13:17 |
Yeah he sings and plays. I like his voice a lot, even though I know he's not a good singer. There's something about the drawl in his voice that makes him unique. If you don't like his first solo LP, you won't like this either. |
Sebastian 06.01.2010 14:21 |
I only listened to his debut LP once, about ten years ago! One changes a lot in a decade, maybe this time I'll appreciate it more. I've got to find the time for it. Ace's more than worth it anyway. |
FlorianS 07.01.2010 02:48 |
I also like Eric Singer doing a few songs at the Kiss concerts! And I agree, that Ace's solo efforts, especially the latest are worth listening to. |

Eric Singer has sung "Beth" twice that I know of (check Youtube). This was not at any KISS shows. It was performed when he plays club gigs with some of his friends. As long as Peter Criss is not in KISS, KISS won't play "Beth". Paul and Gene can't stand the song. As far as "Nothin' To Lose" and "Black Diamond" go, Peter didn't write those songs. All three KISS drummers (Peter Criss, Eric Carr, and Eric Singer) have sung "Black Diamond" in concert. Even Paul sang it a few times. |

Ace can't sing. Never could. He should never be within 15 feet of a mic stand. Paul, Gene, Eric Carr, and Eric Singer are great singers. Peter Criss is tone deaf. |

FlorianS wrote: World Slavery Tour by Iron Maiden 1984 / 1985 193 gigs in 331 days Bon Jovi has probably done longer tours. Their tour for New Jersey ran for well over a year, from late 88 to early 90. Dream Theater is worth a mention as well, as their tour for Images And Words ran nearly two years. Near the end of it, they wanted to shoot themselves because they desperately needed to take time off to write new material. |

Lookin' Divine In Good Ol' '89 09.01.2010 21:09 |
I saw KISS in Pensacola, Florida on October 19 '09. Greatest fucking concert I will ever go too (original Queen excluded). I was in row 8, Section 1 (middle). I was probably 50 feet from the stage. It sucked in some aspects though: They played a new song for the first time ever onl 2 fucking shows after ours (!!!!!!!!!!) and Paul's voice was shot. But it was a surprise in that they played Shock Me (last Played in Austrialia March of 2008). It was mind-bogglingly awesome!!! |
