In the past week, the video for Queen + The Muppets’ version of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ has been viewed over a staggering nine and a half million on YouTube. The video brings together two iconic pieces of pop culture: Queen’s rock-opera classic ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and Jim Henson’s inimitable Muppets. It features all the hugely recognisable characters that defined an era of children’s television, and continue to be popular with each new generation; Miss Piggy, Kermit The Frog, Gonzo, Animal and many more. Seen as a contender to X Factor for the Christmas no.1 spot, bookmaker Paddy Power said of the single: “We’ve taken more bets on the Muppets to be Christmas No. 1 than anyone else so far, but with zillions of views already on YouTube it’s no surprise the punters are getting stuck in. Imagine, the mighty X Factor toppled by the Muppets! It’s great to have a competitive Christmas no. 1 race again!†The momentum for the video has taken on a life of its own, with The One Show and Sky News having already shown it, plus The Sun tipping it as a Christmas Number 1 contender. The single will be released as a Vingle (video of the single) and audio, both available through all Digital Service Providers. The Muppets ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ for Christmas Number 1 on Facebook The original version of Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ appears on their ‘Absolute Greatest’ compilation, which has so far spent three weeks in the UK Top 10 Album Chart. There are some things that never stop surprising me about this site, like this, for one. Well... Like it or not, Queen has the chance to be the first act to top the charts the third time with the same title, and basically just top the Christmas charts, yet there are three responses to the article from their fanbase. Nevermind, I'm not a big fan of this version either, but I like the idea of the Muppets beating the f%#$^%^ sh$^^# X-Factor in the race for Christmas Number One. And yep, I might even buy it. And yes, this topic is strange:/ |

Let me see if I understand this... In the last 8 years or so, this forum has seen probably a few hundred threads with the title "Idea for a Queen release/project". Fans have discussed what thrilled us the most and what we want to have as new release. Some were genius, others were a bit lame. Off the top of my head, here are some examples (in no particular order): [listu] [li]Full blown Queen Boxed Set including all the albums [li]Rarities only Queen Boxed Set [li]DVD release of a 70's gig [li]Hammersmith 79' DVD release with Hammy 75 as extra material. [li]Compilation DVD of Live performances (like Led Zep's) [li]Full BBC sessions boxed set [li]New compilations: Greatest Hits IV, Queen Ballads, Queen Solo Hits, Queen does Calypso, etc. [li]5.1 Surround MIDI releases of Queen songs (I shit you not!) [li]Suggestions for a second single release from the Cosmos Rocks [li]Ideas for videos for the Cosmos Rocks singles [li]Endless setlist suggestions for the 2005/6 and 2008 tours with Paul Rodgers [li]... [li]Queen + The Muppets released as a single for Christmas [/listu] So... NOW they listen to us???!!! :P |

Oh ha ha ha. The Facebook group that was being shilled here is part of the official Disney/EMI press release? Wiki on stealth marketing: It is the consumer's sense that this recommendation was spontaneous and unsolicited, and the resulting feeling that "one good turn deserves another", that drives the buzz. So, the "bought and paid for" aspect of the transaction must remain hidden. Overall, the person doing the marketing must look and sound like a peer of their target audience without any ulterior motive for endorsing the product—employees of the company cannot do undercover marketing, nor can celebrities (except possibly to other celebrities). I had slight suspicions about the Facebook group earlier, but said to myself "Oh that's even too cynical for you Grateful Fan". But now, I'm more than willing to entertain it. |

pittrek wrote: I can't believe my eyes. That shit is official ? Seconding your post. It seems everything is part of a big joke (or nightmare): - TCR: the worst album in rock history in terms of planning, strategy, advertising, etc (although I liked the content) - TCR Tour: or how to ruin a new tour two years later, omitting your new songs and barely offering something new - QPR Live In Ukraine: released ... when some really hot and better shows are recorded and stored in you archives - The end of the QPR project: ah, thanks Roger for telling us it's over .. one year later. Brian was busy with his 3D pics, I guess. Can't blame him. - the singles boxsets ruined project - the american idol / X Factor appereances - Absolute Greatest. Hey, but thanks for the book with the handwritten lyrics. Is this the closest to the Anthologies we'll get ever? ... and when we start seeing a little light at the end of the tunnel, when Rog releases (virtually, I should say) a cool new track and when a 70's DVD is about to be released at last .... we get a new Queen+ project: Queen+The Muppets Ok guys, I don't know. Is it because I'm not from the US or the UK? Is that the reason behind the lack of a single smile from my side when watching this joke? I can't get it. I can't understand the success of such thing. But 9+ million people watched it at Youtube ..... "$$$$$$$$$ & €€€€€€€€€€€€€ !!" QPL thought. Ok ok, it's a business. I get it. |
YourValentine 09.12.2009 04:07 |
Queen are officially muppets now. This press release is beyond belief. |

Now that Paul Rodgers has left the "Queen+" scene. I wonder if a tour will be in the works for 2010. Queen+ The Muppets? |

Ok another queen + project. Lokks more like Queen++++ to me. Question: When will the tour be announced? |

Between the X-Factor people and the Muppets and the pervasive parade of WWYR renditions this wonderful, significant piece of music has been so tarted up I expect Tiger Woods to be humping it any moment now. |
Adam Baboolal 09.12.2009 12:12 |
I may have seen it on youtube and enjoyed it already, but, to be able to buy the single and possibly topple Xfactor's guaranteed no.1? Priceless :) Buy it, don't buy it. But me? I gotta try this!! Adam. |

So Queen Productions next goal is to release BoRhap sung by The Muppets to achieve the all-important goal of beating X Factor in the charts??? Pathetic. |
vadenuez 09.12.2009 16:34 |
Oh, and the saddest part is that just two weeks ago we had a bozo starting a thread here, telling us a fairy tale about a Facebook initiative started by a group of fans, to release this as a single "to rival against X Factor for a No. 1 christmas single". QPL reckons we the fans are stupid, that's what enrages (and saddest me) me the most. |

He'd be good at it.But not as good as Freddie. However,Kermit the frog singing "Mama.Just killed a man".Now thats priceless.I know he doesnt but......what a thought. Animal and his "Mama's".Thats priceless too. |

you guys are taking this way too serious!.... who gives a rats ass about Queen + the muppets? |
The Nosuch Disco 10.12.2009 08:05 |
It was alright as a youtube thingy... but to tag Queen + on the front and release it as a single is a bit off. but i suppose its the lesser of two evils against the Xfactor loser. Still i guess this can be the opening track on Greatest Hits 4, or perhaps the closing track on Absolute Rest Of... link |
4 x Vision 10.12.2009 09:08 |
I hate the muppets and hate this single... but I'd LOVE to see X-Factor lose out for the first time in years. The Xmas No. 1 used to be so much fun and so competitive. These days you know the X-Factor will win, so ANYTHING as direct competition get's my vote. (I won't buy it tho). It's sad times to see how piss poor music has become. Glorified karaoke artists are what counts as pop stars... pants!!! |

Oh, so Pokemon it is. That just proves that I don't see much of DBZ or Pokemon, hehe. Good times. Remember when the Queen Boxed sets were going to be released FAR IN THE FUTURE, in 2009??! Haven't lost hope yet. I'm waiting for the official announcement after the Muppets craze/phenomenon passes. Hopefully it's only a one-off. If Brian and Roger tour with the Muppets the box sets would surely be postponed until 2012 or something. |

vadenuez 14.12.2009 14:28 |
No, it was "fun", until they turned a happy little idea into a way to get some extra bucks by telling the fans a sad lie that they are releasing it as a single because the raving masses demanded it. |
Ken8 15.12.2009 21:10 |
...and they don't even have the decency to release it for AIDS charities. I give up. |
