I believe this is a photo described in Peter Freestone's book about Freddie coming back from his parents house with bisquits that his mom would make him to take home under his arm. I think this is from September of 91 as his sleeves are sort of rolled up and there's no heavy coat or jacket. The waning days of Summer and of course Freddie. This could be snapped from a Sun photographer. |

I seem to remember that pic was published in the sun newspaper on his birthday, 5th september 1991. Someone correct me if im wrong. Its been ages since i'd seen that pic, might have been that long ago i saw it last. So sad to see Freddie looking so thin. |

Oh file the supercilious crap. Any Queen fan that has never seen a candid photo of Freddie in his last months and claims to be too high minded to want to is lying. The way this photograph was taken, and the degree to which Mercury and others are hunted is another topic, but the man has been gone for 18 years and this picture can't hurt him anymore. The course of Freddie's disease and his steep physical decline is part of the Queen story and a rare testament of an artist's dedication to his art. We've heard a thousand times that he sang until he simply couldn't any longer, and a photo like this gives great emotional weight to our understanding of that. So if you decide the curiosity is 'morbid' you only get to decide that for you, not for everybody else. |
