Let me just say that if it was a matter of judging Top 40 radio, this past decade has had by far the shittiest music that has ever been made. I'm not having a pop/hip-hop bias, because occasionally I enjoy a nice catchy pop tune, and some cool rap beats, but as far as mainstream goes, everything has become so horrendous that there's little to be considered even a "guilty pleasure". The only rock genre that gets constant mainstream airplay was emo pop-punk rock, and that was plain pathetic
Now that being said, it seems like rock music, in particular the alternative / indie / post punk revival / new progressive has found a whole different nishe to reach an audience, and the best part is that they are not willing to bow down to any of the mainstream outlets including MTV itself. So for that, I have to say that these rock bands truly made the past decade even better than the 90s as far as music goes ( or at least way much better than the late 90s, which truly sucked musically ).
Welcome back mr. jingles!....My opinion on music over the last decade is not very good. You got some decent bands around like the foo fighters, muse, dream theater, but those bands don't match up ver well with the the late 60's to mid 70's rock. Even if you think dream theater is as great as rush or yes, you still don't have enough of those type of bands. The pop stuff is a Joke. lady ga ga and the rest have little talent.
it hasnt been a great decade for music.Admitidly there has been the occassional gem in an otherwise pool of infested cack [Elbow-day like this,Lady Gaga, the return of a grown up Take That, the Feeling,Mika-Grace Kelly] but other than that its been mostly forgetful for classic tunes that will stand the tests of time.too many hippy-hoppy beyonce wannabes or screeching Mariah Careys or nasally Amy Winehouses.one of each is enough thanks!
i will point out that the decade once again starts and ends with Queen having a Greatest Hits compilation in the UK Top Ten.some things just dont change....
The charts have been the same as always: filled to the brim with disposable crap. The good music has been the same as always: rare and hard to find, but still very much there. Popular taste has been the same as always: sufficient to create virulent misanthropic feelings.
