Thanks :) There's been sooooo many threads on this though this week lol |

Am I the only one irritated that QOL seems to be pretending that they just stumbled on this and are, you know, loving the Beaker cameo? This 'surprise' tribute and 'Thanksgiving gift to the world from Jim Henson" is a marketing device for AG (note the purchase link), and a cyncial one at that since they're going to such silly lengths to pretend it's not. What's left of Jim Henson's company has nothing to do with these muppets. These muppets and The Muppet Studio are owned by Disney, as is Hollywood Records, Queen's US record label. A little honest transparency and some good natured disclosure and I might have believed this was made with a bit of sincere love and respect. What's left is a calculated viral marketing device that is likely the brainchild of a handful of marketing execs who like most marketing execs are probably doomed to end up despising the human race for it's stupidity by the time they retire. |

It was weird that there was no Kermit the Frog in it, wasn't it? I always saw him as the main character. Your post actually made me search for "The Muppets" online and I read a bit about the Disney purchase of most of the characters. I though perhaps Kermit was not part of the Disney deal but then I read this (in Wikipedia, of all places): "All Muppet characters originally belonged to the Jim Henson Company, but when the opportunity came for Sesame Workshop to buy its characters for $180 million, Kermit was not included in the deal. The character now belongs to The Muppets Studio (owned and controlled by the Walt Disney Company); however, Sesame Workshop does have permission to use old sketches featuring Kermit." So Kermit DOES belong to Disney. Weird. If that's so, why didn't they use it for this video? :S Still, it is SO OBVIOUS that this is some attempt at viral marketing but it is a bit naive and even stupid of QP or Hollywood Records to pretend like it's got nothing to do with Queen's latest release. Well, I guess it's QP marketing all over again: Great idea, Poor execution, and Lame communication to "the masses" (their target market). |

Kermit was there - at the end after Miss Piggy. :) I don't know if I'd call it naive or stupid. I think the assumption that it will be accepted at face value by those who either don't know or don't care that they are being marketed to in this way is a good one. Brian May's site had to ask people to stop sending links to the video because they were "awash". Made me shake my head, that's for sure. It edges just a little past viral marketing into stealth marketing, which can backfire, though it's unlikely to in this instance because people are receiving a product of sorts for their time. |

All I'm saying is that you can create a mutually beneficial pop culture moment that still has a sense of authenticity. For me this Muppets thing missed by a mile, where as something like Wayne's World didn't. And I'm not even a fan of Wayne's World specifically. |

Oh, yes, Weird Al's polka rendition, along with 'Another One Rides The Bus', were the best. Question: Why, or why, should the Muppets thing be 'released'? Hasn't it been already, otherwise millions across the world would not already know about it. For instance, this is the link to perhaps the best commercial I have ever seen (Travelers Insurance). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5G7bGBUlx2M Played often during golf matches over here in the summer, I still watch it once or twice a week for fun. Now, why would this clip get ‘released’, when it is readily available. Qzone Ghost....go eff yourself ! If anyone else were spamming the board like this, we'd be banned. Richard and YV, give this 'person' their own news forum...........please. |

Qzone Ghost....go eff yourself ! If anyone else were spamming the board like this, we'd be banned. Richard and YV, give this 'person' their own news forum...........please. Queenzone Ghost is Richard's Skynet. Once it becomes self-aware, it will mass produce killer cyborgs. My point is that QZone Ghost is not a person. It's just a program that systematically posts the news as regular threads in the forum so we can start discussing them in there. The problem is that most of the time the news are already out there in 3 different threads when QZ Ghost posts them. That happens when you have the #1 Queen Forum. We make the news :) |
