I was supposed to see him (yesterday) November 24, in London, but he canceled a few days before the actual date. At first there was another statement from his wife saying that he was "ill" nothing more. Now it seems they know the cause.
I was really and truly looking forward to that gig. Meh. At least I got to see him with Tony Iommi in August.
I'm devastated but I hope the doctors can cure the cancer and he'll make a smooth recovery.
Not a fan specifically, but that is really too bad. He's got one of those great huge metal voices. Stomach cancer is one of the worse ones...it can be extraordinarily fast. Hope he's one of the lucky ones. Very sad. Thanks for letting us know.
Nooooooo!!!! :( how sad!!!
Hope he gets through! We better not be expecting to make a RIP thread for him anytime soon!
And, why is it that cancer takes all the awesome people?!?! Farrah Fawcett, Patrick Swayze, my favorite aunt (who was the only one from my father's side to like my mother ^^) cancer sucks ass!!! [/img]
Truly one hell of a disease. Wish him all the best!
SCISSORS, PAPER, DIO.
He's gonna beat this the way he beats my eardrums every fucking night. The big C is no match for Dio, because I say so. You'll fuck this thing Ronnie.
I dunno, am I the only one who thinks the planet sucks lately? I just found out this week that one of my aunties is terminal, and now Dio is sick too?
Fuck this, honestly...
Yeah, I already knew this through Wendy... but it is indeed very very sad news. Was going to see him twice next week.
Vocally, Freddie has always been my number 1 - but right after him comes Ronnie. From my early teens on I've been a big fan of everything he has done. I've seen the man lots of times in concert (with Sabbath, solo, Heaven & Hell) and was very fortunate to have met him on several occasions. He called me 'his family' ;-) Not only is Ronnie by far the strongest voice in rock, he is also a genuinely nice guy to be with. You probably won't say so, when you hear all the shit that has been thrown back and forth between him and Ozzy, Blackmore and Iommi in the past, but he is a very lovely, sincere and generous man. Love him to bits and pray that he will be alright.

Hey Z:
I'm so sorry about your auntie. You and she are in my thoughts. Hang in there.

thats so sad :( best wishes to dio, creator of \m/ \m/
i like what zeb said, Dio will kick the C word's ass like his music does.
and best wishes to your aunt, zeb. so sad to hear such intense news all in one day :(
Next to Freddie, one of the greatest rock 'n roll singers of all time. Ronnie's one tough MF, I'm sure he'll get through this. Get better RJD, my thoughts are of you.
Ronnie Dio, Great memories of my early teens. A few weeks back I played the holy diver CD, it's still a classic to this day. It's a great feeling playing an album that makes you feel like your 14 again. One things for sure, The man's got a great metal voice, very powerful. Little man, big voice!......
The number of people suffering from this disease seems to be increasing at an alarming rate. 4-5 years ago, I did not personally know of anyone who had cancer but now so many people all over the neighbourhood have been afflicted by one form or another.
CNN Heroes was on TV a few days ago and Pierce Brosnan's speech and the lady to whom he gave the award got me really thinking about cancer.
Cancer can be treated successfully (eliminating the symptoms rather than just delaying death) only if it is detected early. And many times the sympotms start to show only when it is too late. Hence regular checkups are the best way to avoid becoming a victim of this disease. Even if you are healthy and all, getting yourself tested will do no harm, it will only do good.
Incidentally, Peter Criss from Kiss managed to survive cancer of the BREAST.
Everybody eventually will have a family member or friend get cancer. I know so many people in my lifetime (I'm only 38) who have been struck with cancer. Family members, friends. If you live long enough it will get you. Depressing isn't it?......If you catch it early you have a chance. I know a few people who have beaten it. The singer for testament (chuck billy) also had cancer, but now he's cancer free and rocking as hard as ever. Chuck is the man!....So is Ronnie!
