Huzzah I say!!! The Christmas Eve 1975 gig shown on BBC2 in decent quality!!! Is this the restored & remastered version that will come out on DVD soon??? |
earwig 17.11.2009 10:35 |
Sorry - that should be next Friday the 27th. D'oh!!! |

very exciting news! it will be the best quality of this concert (until the dvd comes out) with improved picture and remastered audio which we could all hear on that uk show roger was on where they showed snippet of liar with great drum sound |

Queen at hammersmith 75. i really cant wait to see this, the clip at the roger bbc interview was fantastic. But i got to thinking - now the BBC are heavily involved in producing this concert (thats right isnt it??). Now I know in the end it would be "put together" by bri and rog and the rest but if not for the BBC i wonder if we would have got this gig. Also the ANATO dvd docu-surround sound was heavily produced by Eagle Eye as part of their classic album series. Again, im sure, it was "put together" by bri and rog and the rest but if not for Eagle Eye we would not have had bri, rog, and baker chit chatting about it.I think Its also interesting that the sole Queen Productions have just released another greatest hits wrapped up in a different package.Ahhh maybe thats to negative. I cant wait for that friday... |

KevoM 18.11.2009 20:17 |
Give me a BBC digital broadcast quality over a Queen DVD any day (namely Hits 1 &2 and Montreal). I assume it's the full one hour concert and not the 30 minute edited version that BBC2 have shown before? |
Lozzykinz 18.11.2009 20:28 |
Oh. I wouldn't put it past the BBC to just show the 30mins one then... |
KevoM 19.11.2009 04:22 |
Would have been a nice touch to show it on Xmas eve instead (there's nothing ever decent worth watchin at xmas on TV anyway!), but I guess that would be too late to promote 'Absolute Greatest Hits', which is the main reason why they're showing it....But who's complaining! |

And no, I think it means that they found the parts between songs, which were edited out from all the re-broadcasts |
pittrek 21.11.2009 07:07 |
Oops and it will be only 50 minutes long ? What the hell will it be ? The common versions are cca 62 minutes long :( |
pianoshizzle1 21.11.2009 08:25 |
The concert is only 30 mins long- i know. When I saw that i thought 'thats a short concert' but ive realised that its the cut version. But still, better than nothing :D |
Negative Creep 21.11.2009 12:21 |
Apparently this is also a documentary? I'd imagine they're saving the full gig for DVD. "fantastic new sound mix produced by Queen engineers Justin Shirley-Smith, Kris Fredriksson, and Joshua J Macrae" Oh dear. What's with these people?! Why can't they employ professionals to mix this stuff?!?!?! |
Adam Baboolal 21.11.2009 12:54 |
Uhm...checked the listings and didn't see it anywhere. When was it supposed to be on?? Adam. |
Benn Kempster 21.11.2009 13:02 |
Well, I'm all Sky+'d and ready for it. Certainl won't be bothering to stay up and watch it. How things have changed........ Regardless of the mix and the length of the show, you'd expect a TV documentary not to last too mych more than an hour - even at that time of night. A DVD release, though, ought to be longer and more exhaustive, so, let's just see what happens as and when it emerges. |

I think it's the full 'televised' version at 50 mins (the encore, as we knoww wasn't televised) Why is there talk of it being a doc? It clearly says in the listings that ithe 1975 CONCERT Also why would you want in 'HD' on iPlayer as it was originally recorded in SD? Or does 'HD' on iPlayer mean something different, ie 'full res SD'? Anyway, i've set the recording in my Sky+ box and also on my Freeview HDD/DVD recorder which will give me a better final DVD than going via Sky+ |

Many of you may not have access to BBC2 where you live. So if you still want to see the live broadcast, download the free application from the links provided. Windows Mac OS X Linux 32-bit Linux 64-bi You will need a decent connection, around 500-800 kbs. And you also need VLC media player, which you can down load here link I'm using this app since it came out, it is clean, and works every time. Just download, start, and enter number 2 at the black screen for BBC2. Remember this is a stream, so don't be expecting a HD picture. But it is very good quality for a stream. Let me know if it works in your country. |

And Freeview is much lower quality than Sky, so how do you reckon you'll get a better recording from it? |

The sky+ hd box will record in .str file format. I know they can be transferred to a pc and the demuxed to Mpeg_TS Has anyone worked with .str files and can you give me any native specs on them? Are they 1920x1080? and what is the audio like? Am I right in guessing that DVD recorders will record in DVD spec only? For example 720x576, with stereo or AC3 audio? Or do they record in proper HD? Cheers. |

Well, it just ended. I watched it via J@ck TV, minimal interrputions and excellent feed. Lovely sound. Did anyone catch the sound credits at the end? There was one person credited for sound restoration? Then engineering credit for Justin Shirley-Smith and the likes? Because such work has been done, am I wrong in assuming that this is set for a dvd release sometime in the future? Edit - I really should read Queen news more often... Hope it comes out soon! |

One thing I noticed during 'The March Of The Black Queen' is that you could hear Freddie sing 'I reign with my left hand', whereas on bootlegs, videos etc, the microphone died at that point. Is there a possibility this was taken from another concert? |

Well, just watched it back and noted the following. EXCELLENT sound - a real surprise and a triumph. This is the kind of stuff that needs to be out there flying the flag for Queen - its how they made their bones and what their reputationn ought to be judged upon. Picture quality, again brilliant; not too worried about the graininess or the horizontal lines which are an accepted annoyance in footage from this era. Edits all over the place though: 1 - Big one at the end of Now I'm Here to the intro to Bohemian Rhapsody. 2 - When the band come out of the solo in Brighton Rock and change into Son And Daughter, there is NO Son And Daughter. 3 - March Of The Black Queen has been edited to have Freddie's vocal audible "I'll rule with my left hand" where on all previous versions, this is absent. 4 - Where Freddie comes out of Liar singing the vocal slightly early "Liar, liar, they never ever let you win", this has been edited out completely to make it appear perfectly in time. 5 - NO additional footage present at all. Its possible that a commercial release will have 1, 2 & 5 corrected given the constraint of a TV broadcast, but at the time of day it was shown, it seems pretty pointless to do so, but 3 & 4 are inexcusable and just distort what we already know to be true. Personal preference for this would be for a COMPLETE audio-only release and leave the footage for TV if they're going to bastardise it like this. |

What a waste of time, I should have gone to bed! My old bootleg 'SVCD' version was better. HEAVILY edited, TYPICAL BBC, they just have to cut something out, 10 mins in all... I don't think it has been broadcast in it's entirety since the repeat of 1976....33 (THIRTY THREE YEARS AGO!) I remember being disappointed before when the BBc showed a 30 minute version in 1984. On last night's version there was NO Ogre Battle, NO White Queen, NO Son & Daughter. I guess these don't fit in with the 'Absolute Greatest' promo bandwagon. Better to go from Now I'm Here straight to Bo Rhap as soon as possible for the masses! They could have at least sacrifice the always boring, over long Brighton Rock instead. It's only saving grace was that it was timecode and DOG free. Maybe they're saving the full version for the future DVD? That would be typical QP. Hopefully we'll also be able to appreciate the 'restored audio' in 5.1, or at the very least in '4.1 Shirley Surround' as you couldn't tell on the broadcast with the compressed mpeg audio. I've deleted it from my Sky+ planner and Freeview HDD recorder. No point in putting it on DVD. |
Holly2003 28.11.2009 12:25 |
Why would they show the full concert in advance of a DVD release? That would hurt potential sales. Who cares anyway what the BBC do? I'll be buying the DVD when it comes out, and this was just a teaser for that. |

I'm glad they've touched up the mistakes, as it's a nice taster for all those folk that think Queen are just Don't Stop Me Now and the rest of the GHs. This could lead more people into seeing how raw and tight they were in the early 70s, and the more perfect the performance the better (even with the odd overdubb). Some of you have got a bit carried away with a programme that advertised a 50 MINUTE show... how could it ever have been the full thing, get a brain. |

As far as I'm aware all channels are of a lower bitrate on Freeview that they are on Sky - I have both, and the image on freeview is normally much more blocky. Maybe it depends where you're located. I much preferred the old analogue sky broadcasting - far superior picture. |
