link For those of you that did not see it yet - the All You Need is Love BBC charity video, with BM, is on. VERY cheesy version if you ask me... |
john bodega 02.11.2009 08:48 |
It's AWFUL. I understand that the idea of a charity single is to get as many people in on it as possible, but they picked some real stinkers and the production makes it sound like it's being done in a cupboard. The brass stuff is just EEUUUCH..... Great to see Nick Mason and Brian in there, and that chick in the hooker boots I guess. The rest can fucking drown for all I care .... |
Sebastian 02.11.2009 09:19 |
Nick doing backing vocals? Well... that was worth the four minutes of my life I'll never get back... I agree: awful version. They could've done it great, but they didn't. Stepford as it may sound, the only brill bit was Brian's solo. |
maxpower 02.11.2009 10:22 |
fucking horrific as a cover, just glad Paul McCartney steered well clear .... it would be nice for Brian just for once leave the Queen sound off a solo & play it clean ... that song (1967 original) has one of the worst solo's in recorded history sorry George But its for charity but truely ghastly |

maxpower wrote: it would be nice for Brian just for once leave the Queen sound off a solo & place it clean Why should he? His tone and style are what make him distinctive from every other guitarist of his generation. It was perfect for the song, and he certainly didn't take over the song. He delicately left his fingerprint on it, while paying his due to the original with humility. As far as I'm concerned, it was the only remotely original-sounding part of this version of the song... even if Peter Gabriel, Bill Wyman, and Nick Mason are playing on it. |

Yeah, much as I don't want to sound like I'm brown-nosing, I agree - Brian was best in show. At least he's performing with some character and doing something with a bit of musicality. I can't believe I watched it again ; I've never heard anyone make brass sound so soulless ..... |
Holly2003 02.11.2009 11:33 |
Nice to see Brian smiling for a change. These days he's as grumpy as Alex Ferguson when the ref doesn't add 15 minutes of injury time. These days, every time I see Brian or read his soapbox I feel like buying him a happy meal or something. |

Are they ALL celebrities? (Those with a singing line that is) |
GratefulFan 02.11.2009 12:52 |
Other than Gabriel, Ferry, Mason, May and Ure I had no clue who any of those people were. Are they recognizable in the UK? Or am I lame? |
The Real Wizard 02.11.2009 13:09 |
The bassist is ex-Stone Bill Wyman. |

Terry Wogan, The Corrs, Adrian Edmondson definitely, and possibly Peter Gabriel? |

Definetely I think. I had to look up the charity's website to see who they all were. Loads of them I have no clue about. |

The version of the song as a whole is lame. Brian's bits, chords and solo, and also his smile: THAT made my day for the past couple of days :) I hope he keeps doing his stuff in the guitar. That is what he is good at. In flesh and bone, 3D or not. Like this, for instance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFo6jmDTMec Does anybody have any more of this gig? Cheers, Ogre- |

Yikes that is horrible, even Brian sounded like he was just doing a warm-up. |

What a strange line-up! Red Hurley is an Irish singer. You might remember him from the 1976 Eurovision song contest when he came 5th with 'When'. That's not a joke btw. |

All that looks like a boycott. :) They are not singing- they are chanting. May looks a bit incongruous in the crowd. |

Brian is easily the best thing about this version. I got goosebumps from his solo, it was so vintage Brian! |

Horrible! + Who is the chick with the black & white shirt and the tiny hat? I might have to kill her. |
