i was wondering, even knowing that MADE IN HEAVEN is partly made like that, by completing some of the songs with Freddie's bits... what do you think guys, would it be nice from Queen [Brian, Roger and John if he wants to participate, ofcourse] to do a rework of some let's say unreleased song from Queen's sessions, in style of Free As Bird from The Beatles? from what's known, there are some piece's that can be reworked, some demos and even complete songs with Freddie's vocals on it. should they do it for example when they release anthology or?... and one another Question, do you think Roger will appear on antology let's say - dvd's or something like that? Please lets discuss in this topic normally as Queen fans here.. thanks. |

It would be nice to hear something like that. For me Queen is very nostalgic. The first band that shows me what music is..rock, pop, metal, punk,funk...dance...you name it, QUEEN played it & made it memorable. |

It was already done, as you said, with made in heaven, let me live probably being the best example of what was done to free as a bird. But in all honesty I don’t think there’s any other demos of “new songs” the band considered good enough to rework and release. So it probably won’t happen, at least untill brian or roger dies and the record company / estate.want to cash in. It would be nice to hear some completed versions of stuff though. |
Shane Jazz 21.10.2009 01:12 |
The best bet at this point would be a reworking of Man Made Paradise, of the already completed songs, and I Guess We're Falling Out or Self Made Man of the half-completed songs....Either would be a complete treat for us diehards! |
Mr Butambul 21.10.2009 01:14 |

Hiya, there are a couple of things I'd love to have good copies of just as they are, but also have them reworked into a MIH2 kind of thing with new arrangements. Dog With A Bone would be a great one to have with better production. Feelings is another. The "straight" vocal of See What A Fool I've Been would also be very interesting to hear. I suspect Polar Bear would be tricky to do, as I don't think it's a multitrack. I also don't think Freddie's voice there matches the way it developed after a few tours, so it wouldn't really be cohesive in the context of a whole album. I'm not sure about Silver Salmon either. I quite like the guitar sound of more recent work (like C-lebrity), and applying that to Silver Salmon could make it sound far less brittle. Fred's voice is, again, very young. I suppose not more than See What A Fool though... This would also be a great place for Victory and State of Shock, but I'm not sure that's ever going to happen. I think Greg mentioned at one time there's a Works era complete ballad. Is that the song that Anita sang (it's name escapes me). Can't say i care for Man Made Paradise - the Queen version would need to be significantly different for me to muster up care. The biggest unknown track for me would be Fredom Train. I'd love to think there was a complete Freddie vocal for this, but given it made neither Innuendo nor MIH would indicate that it's a really rough demo at best. I can only think how awesome New Dark Ages would've been had Fred performed it, but if John stomped on it (as the story goes) I can totally understand why. I think that's 7 tracks. That's actually not all that far from a complete album. If there actually are the rumoured full versions of Face It Alone and I Guess We're Falling Out we might be looking good. I guess if MIH2 is going to happen, we'll get it in the next 6 years or so. I seriously doubt a 70 year old Brian (or Roger) is going to care too much about putting in the effort after that. Simon (ps, I know it won't be called MIH2, but it's a decent way to convey the concept) |

Roger and Brian must do this for us-Queenfans for life.I'm pretty sure, that John will be glad to do it... |
Band Forever 21.10.2009 14:43 |
I heard Fred did a full version of Rock It- that would be interesting to hear as a release. I am not too much in favour of Roger or Brian taking leads, it should have been left to the best vocalist of all time. I cannot believe John preferred Roger's vocal to Fred's absolutely staggering. Come on guys the public would welcome any throwaways with magical Fred on. BTW saw Jim Beach a few months came to our office. |
mooghead 21.10.2009 16:21 |
By in the style of 'Free as bird' you mean adding contributions from live members to a deceased members vocal then that is pretty much all their options.... durr |

john bodega 22.10.2009 02:55 |
I'm not sure I understand the premise of this thread. Didn't Queen do this already? Just after Free as a Bird, in fact? To do more now, they'd need to do one of "Gazelle". Which would be like the Beatles doing "Forgive Me my Flower Princess". |

Would you be happy knowing that once they're released, that's it? Game over, nothing left? I think I'd rather another QPR album and tour before we get to that stage. |

another Queen/paul album?....no thanks!....i'm 38 years old. I want the rarities. I don't care if that's it/games over. At least I know I got them before I'm dead. |

You say it as if you're not 38, but- 68! But.... till that time there's more chances for you to get PhD in astronomy than get official releases of all rarities :D |

At the rate they're going We'll all be old or dead, that's what I 'm saying. Was there any reason for the singles box set?..... |
Bo Rhap 22.10.2009 14:50 |
There might have been a chance missed with this Absolute Greatest album. Brian,Roger and John could've re-recorded some of the old hits(as like Cliff Richard and Status Quo have done in the past).I'm sure there are old tapes of Freddie somewhere in the vaults of some of the old hits like Killer Queen for example. |

I hear a rumour that Queen were going to tour soon with Brian Singing and Anita on geetar....Roger to be replaced by Phil Collins and new material written by Steve Brookstein and Christina Aguilera. Now THAT is the stage we're getting to. Fuck the hits re-re-re-re release in super rare packaging, WWRY 2 and Shrek the fucking musical and bring out the boxsets you promised us some 8 years ago - it can't be hard. I really hope you're taking note BHM and RMT. |
Adam Baboolal 23.10.2009 08:49 |
They're not going to take note from an angry little boy. The Beatles took 2 John Lennon demos and recorded around them for the anthology. I have no problem with the guys doing something similar to that. But another MIH is just a bit weird to me. MIH was made with a labour of love and the need to work on it. I'm sure Brian said at one point, it was their therapy for what happened to Freddie. Yay to the anthology approach, but nay to another album made like that. Btw, the singles box was a good idea because it gets it out of the way. Remember, this stuff was all conceived as being part of an all-in-one box set. But that would've been overkill to have the singles stuff as well as the huge library of other mixes, b-sides, alt takes, demos, etc. etc. It also does what people here said they wanted, i.e. not to HAVE TO buy something which includes stuff they are not interested in. Adam. |
Thistle 23.10.2009 18:48 |
"Angry"? No, just disappointed and feeling that the band we've watched, put money into and followed for such a long time want to fob us off with shit. "Little boy"? Was there a need to be patronising? As for the "taking note" part, I'm not the only one who has this opinion, surely they should be taking note of of the opinions of the people who put them where they are? |
Hitman 23.10.2009 18:49 |
selfish fans! :) just keep on dreaming about the rarities....listen the demos and fantasize about how you would have loved to hear them...solos, drums fill, bass lines....and "Oh yeah"s from Freddie :) and you're gonna be happy for the rest of your life (even VERY old 38 yo people) =) |

We'd like to think that artists have to listen to what we want because 'we put them there' but ultimately, nope - there's no obligation there. I think sometimes it sucks but that's just how life is. Making music is not some kind of democracy - you don't buy their product and then somehow own a bit of their creative process. You buy the music you like, and then when they stop putting out stuff that you like, you go and buy something else. I mean it sucks - I want more rare Queen stuff too - but at the moment that isn't an option. |
Thistle 25.10.2009 19:55 |
Isn't an option? Yes it is....they have the material, they have the means, they already promised it. Don't fob us off with another hits or live album, it's just money for old rope - the material is there, all they have to do is just sling it in a box and be done with it. I for one couldn't care about fancy packaging or intricate artwork or faux leather or the likes - it could be an MP3 collection on a CDR for all I care..... now for all the pedants, I know this won't be how it's done, but for all the time they've taken on singles boxes and remastered remasters, they could have put their time into something more contructive. I don't think that's unreasonable. And maybe I was a little OTT with my rant, but you have to admit we have been bordering on the ridiculous with their collaborations in recent years....Five, Will Young (and even at the Party at The Palace thing a few years back, I'm sure Phil Collins DID play drums on a Queen song). But OTT or not, this is a forum for discussion and my opinion is as good as yours. |
