Zoners...yu are such a great source of information that I just can't keep on asking myself........this time, I was thinking about Brian music skills and Freddie's relationship with him....so, the point is, Have you ever hear/watch Freddie talking about Brian May's skills?..I mean, I pretty sure Freddie was well aware of Brian importance in Queen's music...but...I never heard Freddie talking about Brian, or any Freddie's serious analysis on Brian compositions, technique, habilities, etc...
Do you have any idea? Any information on this particualr issue?
As usual, thanks!
Oh no!! Sure..I know that myself, May be I just did not explain myself very well...I was asking for any interview, video or whatever, where Freddie talked clearly about Brian skills...
They rarely talked about each other in any detail. I just remember one quote from Freddie, something to the effect of: "I'm just the singer. Brian's the musician."
I think he never talked about Brian because no one ever really asked. When some one says Queen, they immediately think Freddie. Not Brian, John, or Roger. Most people ask Freddie about Freddie and the other members about Freddie. I think because Freddie's always at the front, they think Freddie is the leader and does all the work which is definitely not true. They all had an equal say. I'm sure that Freddie valued Brian's, John's, and Roger's abilities.
This is a bit of a blanket statement and no doubt there's a ton of exceptions, but I've noticed that most celebrities tend to simply answer the topic the questions are aimed at. Brian questions probably just didn't come up that often.
Plenty of times though he did stop to point out that behind the scenes, Queen was very much an equal 4 way thing.
"He's very versatile" - 1976
"Brian has orchestrated it fully with guitars, like he's never done before. He goes from tubas to piccolos to cellos. It's taken weeks. Brian's very finicky." - about Millionaire Waltz, 1977
"It's very emotional track, one of his best. Brian plays harmonium and some lovely guitar." - about Teo Toriatte, 1977
"To me, Brian always sounds better than a synthesizer" - 1977
The synthesizer got a lot better. It took lessons.
The electric drummer seemed to keeping better time in the later years. And we all know about Freddie's lust for Synth Bass. By now, the three would probably play on about 2 or 3 tracks and the rest of the album would sound like that Geico commercial song, "Remind Me".
Freddie knew about Brian's animals in his backyard; foxes, snails, hedgehogs, some chickens and one big cock. That proves that Freddie gave Brian compliments not only for his skills as a musician, he also liked Brian's animals.

Freddie was more humble than people give him credit for. "i'm Just the singer" well, he's also a great songwriter, performer, and a pretty decent pianist.

I always find it strange how every biographer comments that Freddie only got to grade 4 classical training. He played for YEARS - what difference does it make. I did my grade 7 and he could play more with his little finger than I can.
Freddie played with a lot of emotion and passion. Brian even said it. I wish he continued with his piano studies though, it would Improved songs like Bo Rhap and the millionare waltz even more.
