I live on the Texas-Mexico border and the local radio stations on the U.S. side are bad, really bad (rap & techno....::shudders::). About a month ago, a Mexican station became Classic Rock and they've been steadily playing Queen songs. The first one I heard was Somebody to Love. Nearly fell off my chair in my work office. Afterwards, I heard BoRhap, Fat Bottomed Girls, Bicycle Race, The Invisible Man, and Tie Your Mother Down. I was in heaven, literally.........until, 2 days ago when they played Flash in the morning and Body Language in the afternoon. I was floored. Body Language? Definitely a daring radio station, but it is wonderful to hear so much Queen on the radio. ::feeling bubbly:: (I know that Innuendo will be played soon.) Never thought I'ld get to experience that. especially when all the stations suck. So, what Queen song did you recently hear on the radio? Yeah, I know that this subject has been beaten like a dead horse, but it's fun to know what the rest of you have recently heard. |

I've heard "It's Late" on Radio 3FM twice. The first time it was requested by Jack Black while he was promoting his movie School of Rock. The second time it was requested by a listener. On both occasions the song was played between 9 in the morning and 12.00 during a show called De Arbeidsvitaminen ("The Working Vitamins") which airs from monday to friday. Radio 3FM is the third of 5 (I think) public radio stations in The Netherlands and aims at an audiance between 16 and 30-something. It's one of the most popular radio stations over here. I've also heard Now I'm Here once on 3FM. Some years ago It's A Beautiful Day was used in a tv-commercial (the song was donated for free by QPR) and after was played a couple of times. I also heard a part of State Of Shock being played (FM and Michael Jackson) some years ago. 3FM was a good radio station back then. It sucks now. On radio 2 (the second public radio station) I once heard Teo Torriate. I'm pretty sure there are some more, but I forgot about them. |

There's a Bulgarian radio station called Star FM (the word "star" meaning "a celestial body" in English, but also "old" in Bulgarian as in "old rock"). They have a series of commercials structured in the same fashion, like for Queen it's: Queen are not just this: [short clip of "We Are the Champions"], but also this: [short clip of "Radio Ga Ga"], and this: [short clip of "Friends Will Be Friends"], and this: [short clip of "Tie Your Mother Down"]. No one plays more Queen than we do! And inevitably they play a Queen song after that commercial. They have different ones for different bands, like Metallica, Pink Floyd, KISS etc. The last Queen track I heard on Star FM was "Fat Bottomed Girls", which is quite a treat while you're driving. V. |

Absolute Radio in the UK has a classic rock show every Saturday night, which is guaranteed to play a Queen song every week, but I was very impressed to hear Was It All Worth it roaring from my radio one week - perhaps the best Queen song to have zero recognition outside the Queen fan community! |

Would love to hear that Classic Rock channel! Where I live we are kind of isolated from everything... because of that we only have public service channels, and I cant recall ever hearing Queen on those, a lot of finnish tango (lol) but hardly ever classic rock. I hardly ever listen to radio, except for internet streaming and lastfm.com but I think that if you can't listen to it in your car it doesn't count as radio. The day I hear Queen on the radio I will definitely be blown away, it would make my day! [img=/images/smiley/msn/omg_smile.gif][/img] |

About 9 years ago I used to work in the California Bay Area for 1 and a half year. When I was there I always listened to107.7 The Bone. They played al lot of classic rock, but also new stuff and all types of metal/hard rock. Very often they played live tracks and album tracks. I remember I woke up at 6.00 AM and Free Bird was played on my clock radio. At that moment the guitar solo seemed to last for ever. They played a lot of Queen as well. Recently, I listened to the station in the internet. It was a real disapointment: a lot of talking, DJ's who find them self very funny and witty. A lot of 'live' advertisements done by the presenters them selves. A real turn off. But the music is still okay: http://www.1077thebone.com |

The local Classic Rock station never played enough Queen, in quality or quantity. I made friends with the DJs over the years and was known to them as Tommy Mercury. Well I finally convinced the program director to on September 5th, 2006, Freddies 60th birthday play every Queen album in a row and dedicate the whole day to Queen. I was able to host part of it (Queen to Jazz) and we (myself and the other DJ) got to write our own show to go with it. I included all sorts of Queen facts etc. and ended my run with the (in)famous story of the Jazz release party (namely the midgets with silver platters holding lines of coke running around) and the station got more calls asking if it was real that hour that in the previous 5 weeks before that. Requests for Queen went up 700% and rarer songs were being requested. That same time the next year, all the hype had died down and a hour was deidicated to Freddie... At least I did all I could at the time. I was very happy to expose that many people to Queen and create a bunch of new fans. Fabulous, darlings. |

The night before last I was up brutally late working on a project for work, and I was looking at getting less than 4 hours sleep. I tossed and turned, dreading the thought of the radio alarm that would come way too soon. Anyway, precisely at 6:00 am by my clock radio I was roused by a clear, wonderful and perfectly and serendipitiously timed "I've paid my dues.....". I stayed in bed and listened to the whole thing before I staggered into the shower. It made my very long tired day. |
